I saw a special screening a few months ago now at the prince Charles cinema back here in London England! as you can image! it was my first time seeing this on the big screen! watching this epic movie after midnight We'll.......
Give us a true Sequel! William Friedkin he is a living LEGEND so bold so innovative way ahead of his time he changed Modern Cinema ...the Exorcist is unsurpassed to this day and I think it will always be the SCARIEST MOVIE OF ALL TIMES
carrottoponcrak that’s the best advice to give someone😂 I like pretending The Heretic never existed because it really jumped the shark. I loved the Exorcist 3, Jason Miller a legend that won’t be forgotten mixed with Brad Dourif’s incredible voice acting made the film amazing!
My older sister took me the drive in for my first viewing in 1979...I was 9 yrs old & hid under the seat of the Camero. Slept with my dad for months after that. Scared the living daylights out of me.
with all due respect to both Bills, Friedkin and Blatty...the original 1973 theatrical cut should NOT have been touched...at all. not only all of the UNNECESSARY CG images look lousy...the infamous "spider walk" scene just doesn't fit, narratively. all the additional/extended hospital scenes are welcome, but...again, are unnecessary. there's one that, to me, still arguable...the last conversation between Karras and Merin regarding faith... THAT, to me, is the only addition I would agree on. overall tho...they should just stick to the original 73 cut..and enjoy the spider walk and the other additional scenes as deleted scenes, but not be part of the movie. Friedkin made the right editing choices back in the 70's already.
The did actually go too far with those annoying “subliminal” add ins and I think the first medical exam (though it is in fact referenced in dialogue in the original 73 cut) is too long and slows down the film. I think Linda’s performance is better without those scenes.
So the directors extended cut is when she sticks her Tongue out and wrestles her on the floor. But the “Version you’ve never seen before” is when she spews blood?
I highly recommend the new extended version! You actually see the devil's face during the therapy scene sessions! keep you eye's peeled for this one! Also the staircase scene has been amped up a notch with blood! This extended directors cut is available for downloading now! Enjoy!✌️🙏😈

I seen it at a drive-in when I was 8. I couldn't get certain scenes out of my mind for a long time!
Haven't watch the film... Is it really that traumatic?
Not really, for today's standards. The final act is certainly very scary and atmospheric with poignant scenes but i wouldn't call it traumatic.
It is still effective today, and hopefully Hereditary will be considered a modern classic similar to The Exorcist was/is.
