    Thanks Phil great video. Even better than the official Speedplay one. Just got my first pair this morning and your word daunting was prominent in my mind. Just thankful that you mentioned the two float screws as I thought they were for tensioning. Watching Katie as well made me realise that sitting on my sofa trying to clip the pedal in isn't going to happen because of the load you actually need to clip them in. I will definitely be clipping in and out of them in the garage before I go out on the road with them 😉 Ted

    Great video, I’ll get these when my old Time pedals bite the dust. They’ve really make great improvements over the years.

    Really helped set my gfs shoes up - she hated them before!! Now they clip in so much easier.

    Phil - could you please provide guidance on choosing between standard and light retention cleats? Thanks

    After trying a few different pedal systems and surveying some veteran cyclists' groups, I've been riding Speedplay pedals for the last several years. I like the (newer) lower profile "walkable" Zero version like you demo here except for one thing, the plastic cleat covers randomly fall off! They are expensive to replace. I've tried gluing them on with hot melt glue. But, to no avail. I'm wondering if there's room to add a couple small set-screws, like on the float adjustment might work if there's room to drill and tap (create threads) them to hang under the cleat lip?

      Hey Mark! Just leave the covers off! All of the guys I ride with don't put the covers on and have had no issues for years with the same pedals as far as functionality! I haven't had mine on in about a year with no issues. Just make sure to clean and lubricate periodically and should be fine.

    I just put the Ultra Lights on my new bike and have had an issue with the left side clipping out as I am pedaling along. I intoe on my left side, so my natural pedaling stroke is heel out and it seems I am already most of the way to the clip out range and if I internally rotate my left foot/tibia at all it unclips. I did go and pick up some Zeros to try as the more resistant clip out may help. I wish Speedplays would allow for internal/external rotation of the cleat so you could set the center point of the float range.

    I liked BeBop VP better than Speedplay, and I used Speedplay for many years. The baseplate and cleats on the Speedplays would wear too quickly and were expensive to keep replacing. BeBop were essentially the same two sided entry; same feel and float as Speedplay, which I didn't need anyway as I didn't need adjustable float. You could use the same cleat and pedals on both road and mountain shoes also. Too bad Speedplay sued VP and put them out of business for now. I hope they resume production in the future.

    Tried installing new one piece spring cleats. Followed instructions but impossible to clip in. Original cleats were much easier. Can't use new ones.

    Hi Phil, I understand there is variations in float, but what I want to know for myself when my Wahoo speedplay nano pedals turn up later today is how do I work out how much float I need to set for each foot. I do have the Wahoo 5 indoor trainer, do I just see how they feel and adjust the float to what I think. I believe the least amount of float I need the better, so that its easier to disengage. Many thanks in advance and much appreciated.

    I’ve recently started using these pedals. I’ve been on about 15 rides and find it very hard to lock the cleats to the pedals. Is this a common problem or an issue of just needing to break them more. I have them set with minimal float also if that matters.

    • @nickvrancken2131
      @nickvrancken2131 3 роки тому

      that would probably mean you need to put the center of the cleats more to the center of your foot. if they're too far forward your heel is able to drop because the tipping point is at the front.

    My right foot pronates like crazy so I have knee pain on the inside, I believe these will help since they offer more float compared to shimano pedals?

    Just a shame Speedplay pedals don’t have nowhere near the durability of their Shimano counterparts.
