The four seat conversion is the best 👌 thing you did to this vehicle. I'm sure alot of other 79 owners will be thinking of doing this, after seeing yours. Your kids are going love it.
Especially that most 5 seater are rather a 4.5 seater and it's rated as a "before I'll walk I squeeze in" seat, so rarely used. In that case With the conversation you actually get more space.
A double thumbs up for your expert videos, they're so well done Ronny. I love the new 79' mods and the lightweight mentality. Bring on those trips. You have made us eager to hear your third reason before the trips could happen. 👍🏼👍🏼
Totally awesome build. Many other people throw everything on when they do a build, because they can. Anyone can do that. It's fantastic you have used your experience, preferences and discretion and included just what you need for your intended use. It's an effective and efficient application of components, accessories and money. Less is definitely more. Very clever. Again, awesome build. It's also fantastic you are attached to the car.
Enjoying your pragmatic approach to this rebuild. Have to respect your lived experience with some of your choices as well. 79’s always look more capable without a canopy. Probably gonna upset some of the bolt-on send-it crew out there but there’s always another 4WD 24/7 around the corner for them!
Ronny, love it mate. I love the fact you've not changed things for the sake of it (snorkel), haven't put a canopy on (like everyone else does) and the reason you kept your leaf springs. Awesome 79, love the 'light weight' setup you have. Keep up the good work, look forward to it featured in a trip soon, it's been a while :)
I think if I had a dedicated 4WD I'd run a manual, but when it has to be my daily too, automatic is way easier. Love the videos Ronny, can't wait to see on the East Coast sometime soon.
I think it's probably indisputable that a good auto' is the best choice for off-roading but I still worry about reliability and strength. If I was building an off-road toy I'd probably bung an auto box in it but, for a daily driving, I prefer the simplicity of a manual. If I was daily-driving in a place where a manual was a chore, I'd probably be driving a BMW rather than ANY kind of 4x4.
I think an auto is better for technical crawling. No clutch starts and you can modulate the brake and the gas. But for long trips where a break down would be bad, for sure manual. That's why I have both...
Fantastic vid Ronny. I completely trust your advice regarding 79's and has helped me a lot with making decisoins about mine, especially in relation to coils vs. leafs and extensions vs. no extension, both of which I'm heading down the same path as your good self. Cheers mate :)
Looks absolutely amazing and thrilled you decided to cut weight on it the truck. I tell my friends this all the time, keep the weight down but they never listen...
Hey US viewers: older 70 series are now old enough to import. I've seen a few in Portland OR. It's always cool to see one in person, especially after watching Ronny driving so much.
As someone who owns and daily drives a stretched vehicle, you need to know there are downsides: First is a _significant_ increase in turning radius ..My 48 Willys was stretched 24 inches. This increases the 'U-turn' capability from two lanes to _four._ To effectively pull a U-turn in traffic, I need a four lane divided highway. Period. This makes parking lots a tremendous pain in the ass. Second, this adversely affects the break-over angle of the vehicle. If you're off-roading _at all_ this is a big deal. Why? Because after stretching a vehicle, the breakover angle is significantly decreased for a given tire size. The only way to increase your breakover angle is to lift the vehicle and/or fit larger tires. In my case, I'm _very_ limited in fitting larger tires (stock is 29", currently running 32.5"). Why? Because my vehicle has a wide frame compared to its overall width. Larger tires get less turning angle and exacerbate the already heavily-impacted turning radius. Then, the design of the vehicle is such that even a 6-inch suspension lift wouldn't create any appreciable clearance for larger tires with respect to turning angle. What I'm saying is that there's a lot more to consider with stretching a vehicle than just weight distribution.
Really, really looking forward to a decent series of travel video's. You make some of the best tutorial video's on UA-cam but your best travel video's are easily TV quality and I've missed them a lot in the last couple of years.
Ah… you’re getting a trailer… good choice to get the fam more involved! I could be completely off base, but that’s my guess. Great Q&A video by the way!
I've had two leafy cruisers and two coil setups , coil cruiser is the king different animal you won't be strutting the high sides like a ifs or leafy. Parts like coils are very easy to find not that I've broken one, you also can tune your suspension so much better with good supirior remote res shocks with coils. Bit of an outlay but so much better drive and way more capable vehicle with coils
Hey Ronny question about the superior suspension setup, just wondering what size lift/gvm is in it and the ins and outs of getting it engineered here in WA?
i see nobody complained about the rear narrow axle. people spend over 100, 000 on a troopy but there is NO option for Tyre pressure pump, These days you should be able to let your tyres down while on the move to sandy tracks and start pumping them up as you come of the sandy tracks, then you dont have to stop. i have a old hj75 my forever bus. standard everything. i am 71 and i am using the 4x4 every day as i am a surfer. cheers
I was with you all the way mate except for the comments on an auto trans but that is a personal opinion as you say . I also have my forever Landcruiser and understand you completely and I’ll never be embarrassed about that…ever !! I love the old girl we match lol , cheers Ronny 😎👍🍺🍺🇦🇺
Hi Ronny, since I start to watch your channel (2019, maybe) I think you change your car 2-3 times. Am I wrong? Any way I really like this 79. I must say I get a lot of value content from your channel. Keep doing. Best, Ariel
Hi Ronny, have you had the car engineered to run the 315/75R16 touring tyres and if so, did you have to do any other upgrades such as brake booster/lines etc? Also, since the workmate 79s come with 225/95s (33s), then shouldn't 315/75s be a legal fitment on a 70 (less than 50mm increase from 225/95). Would really appreciate your insight as I am getting conflicting opinions on this point and the local transport authority (QLD) isn't being helpful at all
Hi Ronny. Love your channel. I took my 79 on it's first beach sand weekend. i came home with the chasis full, the fuel tank protection full and every other ledge and channel full of sand. is there a way that i can stop or minimise this. as it took a considerable amout of time to flush salty sand out and i still think there is more in there. Cheers
If you lower your tyre pressure to the point where you can drive slow enough that the sand doesn’t flick up as much you hardly get any sand in your chassis rails etc. You should be able to putt along and not get bogged in most situations.
Yeah that's just what's gonna happen with moist sand. I'm in the UAE, sand just blows straight back out the way it came in when you get back on the highway.
Ronny Another amazing video mate really enjoyed it. That 79 series what a weapon looks like a absolute beast! Beast mod activated! 💪🏽 There is one question I would love to know. Out of all the lift kits you have ran over the years what would you favourite one be?
Hey Ronny, You're video's inspired me to build my own overlander. My base is a Ranger Raptor. On the roof I installed the Front runner roofrack + a 42" lightbar , solar panel, 2 front runner boxes and a jawn. On the back I installed a front runner bed rack for my tent, table holder and water supply (tube 90mm) My question for you: My roof rack makes a lot of noise whining ouzing whistle... How can i reduce this.
Yep looking forward to seeing it do what it's built for. Looks mint yeah very bloody nice indeed. I have to admit I was hoping for a portal axle conversion with coil overs, 37's, stack exhaust and dual stainless custom snorkels LOL just jokes.
Just starting to watch the episode. Yeah leaf springs are good for outback. Maybe if they put rhe pack on top of the axle to increase clearence it prob would be better like a hilux. Yeah it would involve a flat spring with maybe a leaf on top to reduce the axle twisting. Coils = vic high country
Amazing job on the 79! Congrats again on the build mate - hey considered a little fridge in the middle at the back there? Have seen some getting around with an armrest for the lid?
The Hilux is for sale? I thought the 79 was gonna become kinda like a weekend warrior, a toy if you will and the Hilux would do the other stuff. Did you change your mind or was this what you wanted to do since the beginning?
Hi Ronny...I know making videos, editing them and finally putting them on UA-cam, takes a whole lot of time, however, what I would love to see, is links of all the stuff/things you have on your vehicle for viewers to check them out and possibly/maybe buy
I’m not interested in what you like in your setup suspension on 79 series landcruiser dual cab or single cab as everyone has their own choice to have what suspension put on by normal or coils conversion!
I met a guy way down in the Mexico desert with a blown starter on an automatic Chevy. I couldn't push start him or pull him. He had an expensive tow bill into town.
Hey Ronnie love ya work mate, i would like to know why you have gone for a super light set-up but require the heaviest possible gvm upgrade? Do you own a kickass big boat or are you planning on converting to caravan life?
I’ve setup for towing and if I find it too stiff I’ll just remove a leaf or two. At least I have the legal ability to go to 4t if need be. So far it rides well offroad with cargo in the rear

I understand the reasons for no canopy, but what would you do if while on a trip (not towing) that u got hit with bad weather? (Wind and rain) - you seem to have very limited protection and that 180 awning I my opinion doesn’t look like it would help much in a rainy/windy environment...
Love the build, and good info. You're dead wrong on the auto though, and I think you know it ;) auto is much more capable off road. Try Vic high country auto vs manual.
Hey Ronny what’s your thoughts or how come you haven’t got any custom headlights? Projectors blacked out lenses could even black out the inside of them and paint the projector shrouds red to go with the theme

so with the hilux up for sale are you going to use the 79 for your new daily once the lux is gone or do you have a new project upcoming ;)
