A non vetinarian performed this amazing life saving procedure caused by congestive Heart failure. 3.1 pounds of fluid in a senior 15 year old Italian Greyhound. Thank you all for the lecture. Just under a half gallon. She is doing well. I know I will be doi g this again. But she is much lighter and happier. l.

My 14 and a half year old boxer will go through this procedure later today :-(. Thank you for this very informative video - at least now I know what's waiting for us. He has liver cirrhosis (diagnosed 3 years ago) and is a very strong-willed fighter. Add to this that we have an excellent doctor!! He will overcome this accumulated fluid in his belly too as all the blood work shows that he is as fine as he can given his condition. Pray for him ...

@@afriherpphoto7924 Unfortunately our little rascal passed away 2 weeks later. **But not because of the procedure* ! He had multiple health issues and his liver gave slowly up. Mind you the liver function was already reduced to ~25% - given his overall condition though he was still very energetic and playful. We miss him dearly having had great almost 15 years together with lots of love, fun and unconditional loyalty. There will be no other one in our lives. He was our soul-dog.
As for the procedure: it went well and we removed almost 3 litres of liquid. He got 2 stitches and recovered in no time. Acc. to our vet he was a miraculous dog given his many close brushes with death over the past 3 years and coming out of it every time . Dogs are just the best.
Don't wait too long - have your pitty assessed and get it removed if it's water. Don't forget to insist in lab analysis - the liquid we removed also had tissue and blood in it ... Wishing you and you fur baby all the very best and give your doggy a cuddle from me!

@@afriherpphoto7924 Thank you for your kind words 🤭 - our little babies will be waiting for us at the rainbow bridge to cross over together. A bit childish ... but comforting!
This is what Antoine de Saint-Exupéry had to say in "The Little Prince":
      Soul Dogs
Some are unforgettable ... because they have changed a life and continue to live after their death. You can feel it - in your thinking, in your actions, in your feelings. Someone called them soul dogs - those dogs that will only exist once in life, that you could accompany and that have led you in other ways. That were like a shadow and like the air to breathe. Not a day goes by without thinking about him and without missing him. Like a prodigal son and only dog people can understand what it is like to lose a dog.
"If you look at the sky at night, it will be like all the stars laughing because I live on one of them, because I laugh on one of them. You alone will have stars that can laugh. ... And if you comforted yourself, you will be glad to have known me."
Have a good day and stay safe out there ...

I would never advise that you do this yourself, I really just had no other choice that time. I inserted the needle just enough until the fluids came out. I made sure not to puncture too deep coz i might hit her internal organs, then I used the syringe and aspirated as much fluids as I can. I made sure she was asleep so she won't feel the puncture. My dog was on furosamide I thought she was just eating to much than she became constipated so I took her off the meds but her stomach just kept getting bigger so 3 days later took her to a vet who never mentioned giving her a fluid tap but after giving her a ultra sound (with her lying on her back) because she thought she had a mass, which she never found my dog went into cardiac arrest and died. She had taken blood work and x-rays. I think that my fifteen year old taco terrier would not have died if they would not have insisted on carrying her because of her discomfort. We took her in on a baby stroller. I believe they were the cause of her death because of the stress they put her under. According to their blood work her heart was normal

My dog I think had right side heart failure, I looked at every vid I could find. I gave her fresh dandylion leaf cut up small and tincture, also CO q10 with hawthorn berry in it. She lived another 2 months until I felt she was suffering from the fluid so I had her euthanized. It was so hard to do but her quality of life was about zero.

People stop asking how to drain your pets at home. If you do not know what you are doing (obviously) there is a HUGE chance of doing more harm than help to your loved one. You can easily pierce something vital with the needle and cause immense pain and discomfort in other ways. It costs $50-60 to go to the vet and have this done. Do not take the chance yourself.

For those wondering, this dog is suffering from ascites. It's fluid accumulating in the abdomen. Since this was a stray, it's probably from advanced heartworm disease as the right side of the heart pumps harder due to the parasites in the heart vessels.
If this infection has not yet advanced to caval syndrome (disruption of the right side heart valve function) there's a good shot that this dog can be treated and recover.

I took her to the vet to get the fluids drained and she came back a different dog--and not in a good way. :( She lost all energy and it hurt so much to see her go through it.. stopped eating for days.. and then stopped drinking after a few days. Our Yorkepoo had an Abdominocentesis last night. They check his blood to see if there is something wrong with his liver, kidney’s etc. They did an ultrasound, Vet told us and showed pictures that his organs are okay, even his heart. So as of now we dont know why he develop fluid in his abdomen. He is only 12 lbs. they drained about a liter of fluid last night. Now he feels a lot better. Need to get some insurance because we spent almost $800. From labs, ultrasound and abdominocentesis.
