My 14 and a half year old boxer will go through this procedure later today :-(. Thank you for this very informative video - at least now I know what's waiting for us. He has liver cirrhosis (diagnosed 3 years ago) and is a very strong-willed fighter. Add to this that we have an excellent doctor!! We miss him dearly having had great almost 15 years together with lots of love, fun and unconditional loyalty. There will be no other one in our lives. He was our soul-dog. How I wish we have vets in my province. We don't have laboratory clinics or emergency vets. This happened to my dog and I had to drain the fluid myself. It was the last thing I can do and thank goodness it worked. Still hoping for her fast recovery.
I would never advise that you do this yourself, I really just had no other choice that time. I inserted the needle just enough until the fluids came out. I made sure not to puncture too deep coz i might hit her internal organs, then I used the syringe and aspirated as much fluids as I can. I made sure she was asleep so she won't feel the puncture. Please do consult the vet, as much as possible do not do this yourself
My dog was on furosamide I thought she was just eating to much than she became constipated so I took her off the meds but her stomach just kept getting bigger so 3 days later took her to a vet who never mentioned giving her a fluid tap but after giving her a ultra sound (with her lying on her back) because she thought she had a mass, which she never found my dog went into cardiac arrest and died. She had taken blood work and x-rays. I think that my fifteen year old taco terrier would not have died if they would not have insisted on carrying her because of her discomfort. We took her in on a baby stroller. I believe they were the cause of her death because of the stress they put her under. According to their blood work her heart was normal
My dog I think had right side heart failure, I looked at every vid I could find. I gave her fresh dandylion leaf cut up small and tincture, also CO q10 with hawthorn berry in it. She lived another 2 months until I felt she was suffering from the fluid so I had her euthanized. It was so hard to do but her quality of life was about zero.
My dog was sick for months like this spent thousands at the vet, nobody knew what was wrong. I stopped all her dog food and started making ground turkey and sweet potatoes and all the fluid everything went away. Couldn't believe it was something as simple as food allergies
People stop asking how to drain your pets at home. If you do not know what you are doing (obviously) there is a HUGE chance of doing more harm than help to your loved one. You can easily pierce something vital with the needle and cause immense pain and discomfort in other ways. It costs $50-60 to go to the vet and have this done. Do not take the chance yourself.
@REVERIEDAR yes, think it was a 21. The butterfly with tubing, and pulled fluid with syringe. I drained fluid for months myself, went to several vets, nobody knew anything or removed fluid just gave me lasix. Found out it was her food, changed her food now she's good
@donnaharvey9460 I watched a lot of these videos and saw where they put it. I drained her fluids at least 20 times never hit a major organ just went in the same spot
@@elliottquintana6848 unfortunately we had to put my little girl down. The fluid built up to the point she couldn't walk any more and she stopped eating. Then for the first time in my entire life I was actually charged for having her put to sleep. No vet has ever charged me for that
I had to drain my dog twice a week. Took 14 gauge kneel with hole in and a shurenge. I was super careful and it extended dogs life but be careful it be dangerous.
For those wondering, this dog is suffering from ascites. It's fluid accumulating in the abdomen. Since this was a stray, it's probably from advanced heartworm disease as the right side of the heart pumps harder due to the parasites in the heart vessels. If this infection has not yet advanced to caval syndrome (disruption of the right side heart valve function) there's a good shot that this dog can be treated and recover.
