SHORT MEI Hydraulic Elevators @ The Hotel Chicago - Chicago, IL

- (7-30-19) Outside of this hotel in downtown, I noticed these two MEI elevators. My first assumption was they served more floors than the 9 steps next to it... nope. These two elevators literally serve 9 steps on each side, making them the shortest elevators I've seen so far. These will hold up a lot more than a wheelchair lift that's for sure!

MEI just wanted to showcase it's epic motors again
Hey, at least it's faster than a wheelchair lift!
Can you please unblock me? You literally said you would NOT block me
Totally faster
🤔These are quite interesting!! At least they run better then an ordinary savaria wheelchair lift
The wheelchair lifts would probably be broken 60% of the time.
@@stlelevators especially the outdoor ones that are exposed to weather and the elements
This is why we have ramps
Exactly.
Well, that elevated quickly.
Good one.
ISWYDT
levels so quickly for the distance.
Could be faster with the reflex.
Definitely seems overkill, especially two on each adjacent side...but you're right, these seem like they would hold up better than a wheelchair lift. They sure look cool though.
hotels are also high traffic areas.
Rather interesting setup
Yeah, for sure.
They wouldn't even have to add a ramp... just paint a stripe on the adjacent driving ramps. That being said, I'm glad they put these in. They fit in perfectly with the rest of Marina City's odd (yet very pleasing) mix of googie, modernist, and brutalist styles throughout the buildings. They actually kinda look like they could've been put there in the 60s while the buildings were going up...
Yeah I love Marina City. Such an interesting complex.
Reminds me of the one they have at their test tower.
I think they put in a new one since.
Epic motors !!!
At least they didn’t install a painfully slow wheelchair lift
Interesting Mei elevators for a short distance from upper to lower
Huh... now I do wonder what the guest elevators are branded? Probably the same as this... or something different.
I don't know. I didn't go in there.
Seriously though, why didn't they just put in a ramp? Would've been way easier and more cost-effective.
Yeah exactly....
Schindler would go at leveling speed.
That would be a giant fail if it went levelling speed the whole time.
This is a bit strange here. Why would they spend money on elevators for just 8 - 9 steps. At least just a wheelchair lift is good enough for not even enough but a ramp. But I'm not going to lie. These are cool elevator.
Interesting elevators.
how are the elevators so short
In my opinion the east elevator has a better motor.
very interesting
Well, there is a Futuristic ThyssenKrupp elevator in France that only go 1 foot
They should add the reflex (intellegent leveling for hydraulic elevators) to this
They might already be equipped with it, and don't use it. I've seen that in many places.
They should have made them wheelchair lifts.
imagine the pun potential if these were installed by Long
Wow....
😂
lmao
lol. Long? More like Short.
Interesting how MEI put in these elevators for such a short distance of travel. But I’ll take an epic motor any day.
Same
The one thing I hate about mei's is that annoying floor passing chime. THEY NEED TO GET RID OF IT! Other than than, mei's are great
EDIT: Completely unrelated to the original comment, but imagine if these were traction.
Yeah the beep is a bit annoying. That would involve changing the controller programming.
Not sure why these exist. Excess funds perhaps. I much prefer the elevators inside Marina City haha
That must be the case. These are REALLY short.
this looks like new york city is it
Read the title
At least it’s better then some crappy wheelchair lift
for an MEI, it takes too *long* to level
They probably don't have the reflex system.
It could have it, but be disabled. I've seen it on other elevators before.
@@stlelevators That's what I was thinking but I wasn't 100% sure if they could enable or disable it.
These should've had the reflex put in.
It might already have it, but not be enabled.
They could have easily put it platform
Lifta
Those are so junky though.
Wow this thing have to go fast
That floor passing beep is loud and annoying
It’s the chime that most MEI elevators use.
@@stlelevators I prefer the old floor passing microwave-type beep which is more gentle yet still clear.
Very interesting..
what a waste of money but still it will hold up as a long term investment. this is like the only time id say what a f ing waste of 20k to install this. couldn't have they just put a ramp?
I bet they put in the elevators to show off how much money the hotel probably has, lmao
Haha, that's always a theory.
Is MEI for MN elevator
Minnesota Elevator, yep.
Im surprised that elevator is there. I am not sure if an elevator tech would be able to get on top of it lol. And they spent the money to get two elevators instead of a ramp. And I am not sure if it is on but it could use the reflex.
They may have the reflex, but don't use it. That's a super common thing to see.
