This is fantastic, good football, terrible pitch but no player doing the dirty on another, going in hard but fair, brilliant, please more uploads like this thanks, I enjoyed this more than what I see today.
I stood in the Anfield Road terrace, that night (I was usually on The Kop) I remember saying to my mates (John Kennedy & Colin Owens) when we bought the tickets "What £2.00 ... that's far too much for a game" ... I remember saying to my mates after the game "I think we have lost our opportunity to go through to the Final" .... If my memory serves mr right, that was one of Ian Rush's first appearances for Liverpool.
David Cummings If the Liverpool fans weren’t being idiots , then Liverpool could have competed with the likes AC Milan of the late 80s for European glory.
@@princesofthepower3690 shut up you mug. Your comments are verbal diarrhoea if I ever see it. Was you in Rome in May 1984 when darts were hitting us from The Italians. Were you at Heysel in 85 when the same was happening again with tons of Italians giving it lemon. I bet you was not even born before the 90's. A pleb you are if I ever see one
Football wasn't better then but, without satellite tv your rarely got to see Europian teams. It made it more special and I was obsessed. You'd watch the news just to see the odd goal from a game they may show. Bayern had some great players so did Liverpool. Great days
After this game - Brietner said "Liverpool play football without intelligence" Graeme Souness saw this and posted the article on the Liverpool dressing room. Liverpool back then never altered their style of play for anyone.....but on this occasion for the 2nd leg - Bob Paisley told Sammy Lee to man mark Paul Brietner - a masterstroke by Paisley as Brietner never got a look in and Liverpool went through on the away goal ( Kennedy with his right foot!!!)
After this game, Bayern lost to ASTON VILLA, ABERDEEN , and EVERTON. Before, KÖLN and HSV lost to forest and IPSWIH TOWN (fantastique équipe !). I think german teams were complexed with british teams.
Was the atmosphere better/worse/about same in comparison to today? It seems it is about the same as today where it is said to be bad because of all the tourist fans.
Sammy Lee was an earlier Paul Scholes, so similar. Knitted the game together. When you watch the old matches it's amazing how long Sammy Lee played for. Great player, not sure if he ever played for England. I'll have a look.
'' We crach them in Munich ''.....told breitner after the match in Liverpool in every german tv chanel and radio-station......2 weeks later Liverpool reached the final by the away goal from Ray Kennedy!! Great!!
Breitner after this game called Liverpool’s football “stupid”. Paisley pinned his comments on the dressing room wall. Two weeks late Stupid Liverpool dumped the arrogant Breitner out of Europe and went in to win it.
I was there. It was when Liverpool welcomed English supporters of their club. Now I'm told that you have to be Scouse, not English. I get the impression that Irish are welcome too. I used to love being part of the Liverpool culture, now I stay away. I used to pay on the gate like a real fan ..I couldn't afford to be one of the plastic fans who fill Anfield these days, and I can't understand why they are against leaving the English league to join a Euro league full of fellow, rich plastics.
Mmm no creo que lo sea, llega antes al balón, fue brusco pero en un deporte de contacto creo que no se debería penalizar eso, tiene que ir al balón para defender, fue y llegó antes que el delantero.

Interesting comment .. seems like a long time ago. But football has lost a lot of atmosphere and passion since then.

What a great match, two superb teams at the top of their game.
When the European cup was interesting 😊
Hi
Thank you for the great football game!
Both teams played excellent football!
With sporty greetings

Sammy Lee was good every season but outstanding in 80-81.
Have a nice day. Thank you so much for the nice video. Enjoyed and liked of course. Greetings from country Azerbaijan
Just setting the date/time (in a uk/gb context) right ... Wednesday the 4th of March 1981, k.o. 7-30 pm.
Both Bundesliga and First Division were fucking crazy in the early 80s. This was the era before the Serie A takeover.
when the Bundesliga had Germans and strong Germans..not the embarassments you get today
I was in the Kop at this game.
Ray Clemence: what a keeper!
Kenny Dalglish was cooler than the Fonz.
The voice of George Sephton over the Tannoy.
Old George still going strong..
Do you wish Keegan and Daglish played together?

In that period the teams from East Europe where fighting in the last fases of European Cups...

Seit dem Tag bin ich liverpool fan
These were still nation duels not like today where in a team 1 or 2 nation player are and the are foreigners
Liverpool were a mix of English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish.
👍👍👍
Clem...best ever

it always baffles me when you see the quality (or not) of the pitch in those days; much more conducive to playing rugby than football
Hybrid turf pitches are used worldwide by top-level football teams these days, 3% synthetic fibres makes all the difference.

Rushies second game, breitner called us unimaginative !

From that reply, I'm guessing there are a lot of things you don't understand.
@@mikecampbell1738 I'm sure you're right. I wish someone could explain why these things have happened.
😍😍😍magnifique
Bayern Munich have lost all 4 knock out games in Europe against Liverpool
Sorry, thats wrong ! November 1971 B. Munich - Liverpool 3:1 and 1:1 !
Goalkeeper of byren is a hero, saved several goals
Different football different players but it was better then real football greetings from Yannis ATHENS

Anfield, in those days, looked like a potato field.
Big game

La otra SEMIFINAL fue REAL MADRID vs INTER. ¡¡¡HALA MADRID!!!
J'ai une question à poser : on ne voit plus Mc Dermott en 1981.
Est -t-il parti ?
Zico, Junior and Nunes send hugs (Flamengo world champion in 1981!)
Che belle le strette di mano a fine partita :-))))
penalty at the 3 minte mark

Who was Bayern keeper?
Giuseppe Achilli Walter Junghans.
@@Robard65 thank you....i forgot him
