Like your hat which rhymes with today’s chat. Loved the message, give it a go tomorrow. Shoulder and chin to keep the swing in. Well after giving it a go it gave me the mojo, time to move to the lead leg which results in hitting fairways in reg! Thats giving you poetic justice for a great channel.
Why your the best coach on UA-cam. You have many different approaches to teaching the same relative thing. That is what makes a great coach. Everyone is different and people will see or feel their body different. Amazing. Sharing this with my students.
Steve, words cannot describe how powerful this simple tip is! You're a genius! At the range last night, I swear I had never been able to hit such long and straight irons, and consistently too! Downswing did not feel rushed but sequenced. The sound and trajectory of the ball coming off the club face...simply orgasmic. This nugget would solve 100% of amateurs' over the top problem. Yours is the only golf instruction channel the world needs. The others are just posers.
I've been watching countless videos on the best way to achieve this rotation sequence without casting my arms out or mis-sequencing and this is the best one. You've got a subscriber in me.
You know I'm brand new to this person's channel. Have only watched three of his vids so far. Massively impressed with his helpful "nuggets" as he calls them. I know a lot already but his nuggets are both helpful reminders and reveal new ways of doing things. I also have never seen any channel on YT, golf or otherwise, where there are zero dislikes. This guy is an unheralded star. His channel will grow and grow and grow. He is the real deal.
Took this to the course today - weak part of my game is mid to long irons - ball striking and accuracy dramatically improved - amazing. Will try and focus on this in future - Thanks Steve.
A beautifully simple tip. This is the part of the golf swing that I find the hardest to master. In my anxiety to give the ball a big bash I tend to throw my arms at the ball far far too early. Two things invariably happen 1. It actually goes nowhere- all power is lost.2 I come over the top and either slice badly or (whisper it the dreaded sh**ks make an appearance). On the few occasions when it comes out of the sweet spot and I briefly look that I might know what I am doing it has been that I haven’t rushed to hit it from the top. So this tip about the left shoulder has been a light bulb moment as far as I am concerned. Thanks again and I hope you get to 50000 because you certainly deserve to, Mr Johnston!
Usually a swing thought with the word “don’t” doesn’t work too well, but this tip using the thought “maintain” worked especially well. I found a could swing much more aggressively with out being tentative. Awesome explanation. Love your stuff.
Love your videos! I am so glad I stumbled on your channel. My ancestors are originally from Peebles and moved to the States in the 1700s. I came to Scotland 10 years ago and stayed in Peebles for a few days. I only got to play the front 9 at Peebles Golf Club because of inclement weather. Watching your videos brings me back, can't wait to make it back there one day.
Steve - dedicated Eureka student. Just got back from 18 concentrating on the quiet left shoulder at the start of the downswing. Hit the tee ball longer with seemingly less effort - dead straight with a baby draw. Hit two long irons best in months. I’m telling every golfer I know to go Eureka and you’ll never go back. Ken in Houston
Thanks Steve , another great video. Cannot wait to practice this. Should definitely help prevent over the top issues. Appreciate you taking the time to air these. Cheers !!
An absolute gem of a tip! Never thought of doing this, and it improved my downswing sequencing so much. I’ve always been so quick and sometimes unbalanced from the top, but this just gives me so much more time to get into a solid impact position. Thanks for this Steve
Hi Steve, I have been following you on UA-cam for a couple of months now and I can really relate to the way you explain things... Yesterday I watched this video and went onto the course today and it was the one swing-thought that I had needed!! I played my best round ever today (a 76) and your video made the difference! THANK YOU!! Take care and stay healthy!
Steve: Love that tip. Makes a lot of sense. Can’t wait to give it a try. A brief simple swing thought that one should be able to incorporate without a lot of brain stress. Many Thanks!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. This actually seems to work! I've been a slicer all my (golfing) life but have made a huge effort this year to fix my out-to-in swing. As a result, I've massively confused myself about weight-transfer, turning my hips and tucking my elbow. This simplifies all of that - just think about left-shoulder as I start down. Hopefully simple enough to work on the course. Thank you.
Once again thanks I have learned a lot from you simply by the way you explain things 👌 this is what separates you from every other UA-cam coach 🤝 for me your the best man for guidance to improve my golf ✌️
This video has cleared up some of my confusion about the transition and also helped me spot the movement from my practice session on Saturday which I couldn't explain but could feel helping my strike! Great video!
As a lefty I’ve been struggling with a far left drive. But thanks to your advice “straight and far!!” That was a breakthrough finally. Thank you and Ben Hogan
Awesome little nugget. I know my chin didn’t move with my shoulder yesterday a couple of times and hit behind the ball. Absolutely superb swing thought going forward. Cheers
Will try this drill tomorrow before playing as I have been pushing my clubs to the right so this makes sense why I am separated from my swing, love all your videos, easy and to the point.
@@stevejohnstongolf don’t give up Steve, I look forward to your tips which have really helped me enormously, love your teaching style, to the point and precise and your lessons work.
Thanks Steve for explaining something I had thought about as I have been using my left shoulder to start the downswing and felt I came over the top some of the time but not others and couldn't work out what the difference was. Now I know. Great stuff, keep them coming and that 50000 target will soon be achieved.
Just got back after amassing 42 points in very windy conditions! Maintaining Chin and left shoulder at the start of the transition is a brilliant swing thought. Rarely for me, the ball actually went down my chosen line. So…..THANK YOU…..and Woohoo!!!!
Interesting way to think about it. More and more I am thinking about the role of the upper body compared to the lower. The more you realize what the upper half should do the less you want to rush it and try to add speed the wrong way.
First, just noticed you’re in Peebles. The wife grew up in Stow and went to Galashiels Academy. We have holidays in Peebles. Next, that is the video I have been looking for, a downswing trigger. Nearly midnight here and I just dashed downstairs to try it out. It felt good. Need to take it to the range on Saturday. I’ll let you know if it works for me.`Also going to try it with the four-ball station drill.
Great video Steve and v helpful. I saw one by Ernie Els in which heralded about keeping the rectangle between the right forearm, upper arm and club in place for as long as possible in the downswing. I think this has the same kind of effect. Cheers John
Steve that makes sense keeping dimensions closer to the path, then unraveling the spring from the bottom up to shoulder. Exact reverse of the windup of back swing. That's cool. Thank you. My spring is not been as neat as possible. I picture a spring releasing at both ends at the same time. Not good and zero catapult?

I honestly think you're the best coach on UA-cam. Great teaching content.
Agree
So do aye. Makes so much damned sense in every single video. This guy should be teaching pro’s
Absolutely agree❤
I’ve never understood so many videos out there instructing the left shoulder to separate early in downswing. Thanks for setting the record straight!

Thanks for the amazing feedback👏🏻👏🏻👍

Thanks from Melbourne.

This reminds me of Jack's swing with the back to the target tip. An oldie but goodie,
Can’t beat an oldie Chris👍

These little nuggets are pure gold mate no pun intended
Best teacher on the net.
Watched this video, went straight to the range, it worked on the first swing. After 10 min, I was swinging freely and aggressively. Thanks.
Thank you for this. This move is the answer I have been searching for. All golfers need to see this video. Especially great for fixing a pull.
Thanks 🙏🏻
Great tip Steve, I'm guilty of stopping my shoulder turning and concentrated on turning my rib cage and results were amazing, thanks mate
😁😃
I am very much a left shoulder trigger, so for me, that tipis a absolute golden nugget, cheers steve
Great tips as always Steve.
Look forward to the give away as i've never known a scotsman to give anything away 🤣
You are an amazing teacher. Wish I lived close by, I would be around every week for a lesson .
Never heard of this before. Brilliant.
Wow!!! What a difference 🥳🥳🥳 I can feel the connection so perfectly
Took this to the course today - weak part of my game is mid to long irons - ball striking and accuracy dramatically improved - amazing. Will try and focus on this in future - Thanks Steve.
All these years I’ve read and taught the separation of the front shoulder from the chin. I’ll have to try this
Steve, I rarely respond, but wanted to say that your left shoulder/chin downswing trigger piece was masterful. Grateful thanks from Hong Kong!
Tiny detail, ginormous result. Cheers and thank you.

Brilliant tip big yin.Never heard that one before. Excellent stuff. Keep your channel going please. 👍🏴🇨🇮☘️
Oooo, I like that. Definitely find myself starting down shoulders first frequently. Usually when I'm in the rough for feel rushed to take a shot.
I agree, this tip is so fundamental, no other coach is so clear, thx so much

Incredibly effective intuitive tip. Prevented rushing the downswing. Worked great for me hitting straight and solid
Marvelous tip! This concept of shoulder staying close makes so much sense. Thanks!
Really good drill Steve, feel body rotating much more👍
I just like to say you have made the game of golf alot easier
Really small detail but extremely useful!! 👍👍💪

Yes, I often think left shoulder towards the target at the start of the downswing...similar thought.

Great coaching skill left shoulder still ! Stillness!

Great concept, trying this out in the kitchen, makes perfect sense. Taking it to the range this afternoon. Thank you.
Watched quite a few of your videos, as a golfer with a flatter plane its perfect for me, subscribed, looking forward to new videos and tips, thanks
This is a very good tip. Wish you were in the U.S.
That might be the best tip i ever received Ty I'll try it 2morow
Brilliant! One of the best tips I've ever heard.
As with all your videos, Well done Sir! Great explanation of how such a small section of the body can affect such a large portion.
Steve that's a great tip thanks
This video has cleared up some of my confusion about the transition and also helped me spot the movement from my practice session on Saturday which I couldn't explain but could feel helping my strike! Great video!
Best tip I’ve seen on utube this can also help with recentering but what happened at 5.15 mmmmmm cheers
Excellent tip and drill I am getting more distance, greater contact ,and straighter shots with it .thank you
As a lefty I’ve been struggling with a far left drive. But thanks to your advice “straight and far!!” That was a breakthrough finally. Thank you and Ben Hogan
I tried and it works perfect, completely other swing and contact feeling, thx a lot!!
It works in my living room--can't wait to hit the range! Thank you!

No, he is the best coach. Hands down.
Thanks Ken👏🏻
SINCERE "thank you" once again for terrific insights and tips!

👍👍
Great tips as usual Steve, from someone who pulls so many shots its hard to let go and trust the hip rotation. Keep it up
Watching and learning from you keep me going on my golf journey Steve! It’s so inspiring 🥰
Great video. Love how vocally you repeat the key elements of the lesson. Super stuff mate👍🏻
This is useful Steve...always wonder how we trigger the down swing...thanks.
