Hey! Hope everyone's having a good day!
My uploads slowed down a bit recently since about June. I had to go through a bunch of life stuff that changed up my entire routine and just, well everything. I was a bit busy but the good news is that I have a bunch of videos I've been working on that I hope to post soon!
Also, if you have any topics you want me to cover for a future video, let me know :D
    Have a great day! byee

I heard one of this film’s creators speak once some 15+ years ago. He talked about how they essentially had no idea how to make a movie, and figured it out as they go. The entire team learned on the job. It’s wild.

@@Not_AlwaysYour response doesn’t make sense. What they said isn’t false just because the same people made a film before hoodwinked. The fact of the matter is Hoodwinked was one of the first of its kind. No one's ever made a computer-animated film outside of the studio system this cheap for this fast and for the theatre and done well. Hoodwinked was the first… the first kind of a new model and a new way of making an animated film. It was made with no studio money, overseas, then picked up by a major distributor. A few other animated films have followed this path, but not to the level of success that Hoodwinked was able to achieve.

It always fascinates me that Hoodwinked was universally seen as a Shrek clone at the time. I watched both as a kid many times, and even my stupid kid brain saw that they were two very distinct movies, beyond the difference in visual quality.
Obviously, I can see now that they certainly took inspiration from the satirical genre that Shrek created, but it takes itself far more seriously as its own spin on a fairy tale, rather than feeling like it's just using it as the butt of a joke.
That all said, I absolutely adored this movie as a kid and feel like I would still love it upon rewatching it now; I'm upset that I let the DVD we used to have be donated off. It's one of those movies that is the poster child of character over corporate quality; the studio working on this had virtually no budget or experience, famously not even having enough money for retakes or redoing animation--if you know anything about animation, this is a death sentence. Somehow, despite that, their passion and interest in just making a movie shone bright. Sure it isn't perfect--nothing is--but that doesn't stop this movie from being so awesome just by the power of its writing and character interactions alone.

Oh!! So back in highschool i had a videogame programing class, and the program we learned to use was, i think called Alice?? And my teacher referenced Hoodwinked and had us watch it cause apparently the whole film was animated using Alice. Which, is honestly super impressive cause Alice had the most basic features, was kind of obnoxious to use and also, its free. So its not gonna have pixar levels of animation strangth.
The budget was not put into the animation but i think the story really makes up for it. It was part of my family video rental rotation growing up 😅 Its funny, the mystery keeps you engaged, and the twist ending was legitimately shocking. As a kid who spent most of their childhood without cable, this movie was a staple in my household. I remember my siblings and I seeing this movie in theaters as a treat, and when it came out on DVD watching this movie over and over again to the point that the "schnitzel on a stick" song and the goat's song are forever tattooed on my brain. My siblings and I used to annoy the hell out of my mom with the schnitzel song LMAO

I always completely forget the goat. He's such a big lipped alligator moment. The memories all come back with one cue, one mention of "horns", or a whisper of the boy scout's marching song, but it (and the following song "Little Boat") may as well be an episode of fractured fairy tales within a movie that itself was so fractured fairy tale.
