@t.j.7789 yeah and when I was a kid I wanted to fit in and smoke cigarettes. My mom always told me not to. I wish I had listened to my mother. To say Leah doesn't understand is silly. Leah was once a kid who wanted to fit in. Ali has never been a mother. A mother of a child with muscular dystrophy at that. It's Ali who can't understand Leah and Leah is right. Ali's health and wellbeing needs to be put in front of fitting in with kids she'll probably lose touch with after high school anyway. It is sad for Ali but it will be a nightmare for everyone if Ali really gets hurt

I see some comments are criticizing Leah and let me say this. Leah definitely understands how Ali feels but we have to remember that as her mother, all Leah can think about is Ali’s safety. we were all teens once who thought we knew everything, never planned ahead. Leah’s right. if Ali gets too tired or she falls due to her legs getting weak from all the walking she’s trying to do, what then? it’s something Leah knows could’ve been prevented had Ali had her wheelchair. i’m not criticizing Ali either. i just hope she too understands why her mom is so concerned.

I can't believe her kids are in HIGH SCHOOL now!! They're both so beautiful! Ali's hair is amazing. And she looks a lot more like Leah now than she did as a baby. Leah seems like such a good mom. It breaks my heart that Ali feels stigma and shame attached to her wheelchair. Hopefully as Ali gets older, she will become more confident and realize that a wheelchair is just a tool that gives you more freedom and independence, not less. And it's nothing to be embarrassed about. It's just like a car is for someone whose city isn't accessible through public transit. It's just a way to get around!

I know how hard that must have been for you and as a mom and I understand how you felt in that moment. All we want to do is protect our babies. Your daughter likely just wanted to attend the game and sit on the bleachers like her friends; and as her mom you were thinking about her safety first, whereas she was thinking about how she lives with a disability and for that one moment she wanted to experience normalcy and not have to use her assistance device (wheelchair).
I have a 24 year old who was born with a disability and it’s hard on us mom’s because we don’t want our kids to suffer, be treated different, disrespected, laughed at or teased and we want them to feel included and part of a community even in their school.
So although you worry, you’ll be doing that for the rest of your life, but pray and leave it in God‘s hands to watch over your children and watch the way HE shows up and keeps them safe. Watching this made me cry because I have felt that kind of pain for my son many occasions.

I call him the one stick because he gets EVERYONE ON the first try and his patients really really love him. His goal is to become a registered nurse so phlebotomy is a steppingstone on his way to greatness.

You are so right!!! I think Leah could use some counseling to be able to deal with these situation without breaking down and crying! It's TOTALLY normal for her daughter NOT to want to use the wheel chair! No, it's not the best for her but she's going to be responsible for her own decisions! I feel bad for her! When her sister, clearly, might be looked at like the beauty queen. She's going to always lag behind her. Sad!

I think this is exactly what Corey was talking about a few years back when he was trying to explain to Leah that Ali doesn’t always need the wheelchair. Sometimes as parents we have to let our children make their own decisions and learn their own lessons because we won’t always be there so letting them learn on their own is necessary for them in adulthood. If Ali feels she doesn’t need to bring the wheelchair then okay let her make that decision for herself and if she’s wrong then that’s a lesson learned but if she’s right then that’s awesome that’s a lesson for Leah to learn to trust her daughter. Also Leah needs to stop making everything about herself.

Its litterally not recommended by her docter. She is thinking in the moment to not miss out. But her mum has been given the information and knows the long term affects this would have. She's a mother and part of being a mother is not letting your child make decisions with long term/lifelong negative impacts

She just doesn't want the attention of being a wheelchair, she is at that age where she cares a lot of what her peers think. The mom should remember how it was, wasn't that long ago when she was in high school. Maybe she could of had the other sister walk next to her to make sure she doesn't fall.
