I was born and raised in the Bronx from 1973 to 1994 and I moved to Yonkers with my parents then me and my wife moved to Eastchester and then Scarsdale. Yes my property taxes are close to 30 grand a year but I’ll police department and school systems are top-tier, now if you don’t have a kid you may be wasting a lot of your money but with children it’s absolutely worth it. The only downside is it’s really quiet even on the Fourth of July. I’m the only house doing barbecues and shooting fireworks and that gets a little depressing, but on the flipside, my son will never have to worry about getting jumped after school like I did in the Bronx we’re getting robbed on the two train. What’s crazy is I’m probably 20 minutes away from my old address in the Bronx but it feels like I’m on another planet. if you could afford it towns like Scarsdale/Eastchester/Bronxville/Tuckahoe. Those towns are very close to the city and are basically crimeless of all major crime. I know there’s some other towns in Westchester that are also nice but they go up a little bit ,these are the ones that are closer and they’re in good vicinity to everything close to shops close to stores etc
I grew up with my parents in Larchmont New York from 1960-1972. We then moved to Rye. And I commuted to Grand Central Terminal over a 30-year period although I have worked in Greenwich as well as Stamford Connecticut. Upon my father's passing at the age of 90 in 2019 my parents were married 63 years. We upgraded and brought the house up the code and sold it for 1.2 million to go to my mother's continued healthcare who has the early stages of dementia. And I'm not disagreeing with your post I very much agree with you but there are pros and cons to living with just about anywhere these days I live in Chelsea Manhattan since 2004. And I'm not looking for sympathy but to this day I miss going home.
Thank you for watching my video and commenting on it. I really appreciate it! I'm sorry to hear about your mother's health issues. My heart goes out to her, you and your family. No matter where you live, there are pros and cons. I get what you mean about how you miss going home.
You hit on a some of the bigger cons about living here. I also just watched your pros video. Great info there! There are a lot more positives about living here than negatives.
Yes, 30% higher household income in Westchester, but the cost of living is WAY more than 30% higher. Comparing taxes (7th highest out of over 3000 US counties) to the value of the home is not valid because the government tends to overvalue the homes, meaning you could never sell it for what they say it's worth, yet you have to pay taxes on what they say it's worth. Old people cannot afford to retire in the county because of this. The only reason to live here is for the good schools if you have children and/or you work in NYC. Otherwise it's just not worth it, in my opinion.
I see your point but we grew up in Larchmont and eventually Rye. Upon my father's passing at the age of 90 in 2019 my parents were married 63 years mom has the early stages of dementia. We upgraded and renovated the house and sold it for 1.2 million to go to her continued healthcare. So I'm not trying to change your opinion or your point of view I'm just saying I'm so glad that we did live there at one point and have no regrets.
We grew up in Larchmont and Rye New York. My parents were married 63 years I'm so glad we stayed as I have wonderful memories and since the house was sold to go to my mother's continued healthcare to this day I still miss going home.

Had to smile as you justify the cost of everything in Westchester. Lived there for 37 years. Moved to Delaware. Wish I did it 37 years ago.
