Wiley waskilly Watson does it again! One of the true GREATS in golf history. That swing is super consistent and his iron play was spectacular!
I remember Fred Couples saying after this something like how good do I have to play as I was 21 under in my first Champions Tournament and I lose? Yep these guys are good!
Tom Watson never forget the duel in the sun in '77 vs Nicklaus, then again in 2009 when at 59 he almost won another Open Championship, an American Icon.
Me and Dad watched that one at a bar, best times. I didn't like Cink for a while after that.

My goodness, Tom's second shot on 18 out of the light rough to about 3' with the pressure of basically playing match play with Fred? Just an absolute clutch shot!

17th hole at TPC Sawgrass 1999. I was the 17th and Fred hit ball in water and Tom placed his right of Sandtrap. Fred hit next shot form tee box and put it in the hole on the fly for Par. Tom chip over trap on the ridge above the flag and it trickled down for Birdee. The Walrus plying with them was about 6 feet from the hole and missed put for par.

I died a little that day, I was convinced Tom could hit that shot close.
Just a touch too much club. Should’ve hit the 9 he said. Even though he didn’t win, he tied the British open at the age of 59 which to me is the single greatest golfing accomplishment there is imo

You can tell Mr. Watson was playing for the "hopper-flyer" on 18th approach. And he was licking his lips when the ball flew off the iron.

Tom explodes through the ball (great drive). Freddie just seems to take a fairly casual swing and out drives Tom. Huh? Golf is a strange game.
