Tonga is a unique country in many ways. It has never been colonized, it remains a Kingdom today, and it is known to be The Friendly Islands. But sadly Tonga was on my radar more recently because of the massive submarine volcano that exploded on January 15, 2022, causing apocalyptic storms, surges, and a tsunami that leveled parts of the island chain.
One year after the volcanic eruption, I traveled to Tonga where I got to witness its vast natural beauty, its age-old traditions, delicious meals, historic sights, and the deep seeded connection to faith (I was there on a Sunday, which was truly a unique experience!). While in Tonga I met locals and saw why indeed they lived up to their namesake as the Friendly Islands. Their generosity, trust, pride, and incredible resilience are why they were able to remain steadfast in the face of disaster and I am so grateful to have experienced it all to myself during the low season!
~ Stay Curious. And I look forward to seeing you on my next Final50 journey! ~

Thank you for the hospitality! I had no idea what to expect, so I was very happy to explore it during the low season and do so much in such little time. Next time I will for sure visit more of the islands like Eua!

Bro, you missed out on some hidden gems in the Kingdom But thank you for the footage and great video. Glad you enjoyed your visit. Its always the fancy restaurants that we think serve the best foods, but there are smaller little family-owned business off the grid that are exceptional and go the extra mile to make the food worth your while. Next time, go to a pizza shop called Havelu Pizza and you will love it! Also never eat the street food because you might get stomach problems after. Usually foreigners sit in the middle and back rows of the church seat due to the front being reserved by families from town (Kolomotua, etc.)
Also you HAVE to try Mum’s cafe if you want quality food that won’t give you trouble. You also have to try going to Oholei Resort if you want amazing visuals and food!
*DO NOT go to that bar again, my mother when she used to go out in Tonga went there and somebody put something in her drink.*
‘Ofa lahi atu, malo aupito and Malo ‘elele!

My Grand-Uncle knew every thing about the island with the volcano as he was sone of the people who studied it. Pangaimotu used to be bright and booming with tourist and others used to jump off the shipwreck.

Wish I could help. From memory it was fairly straightforward to get the visa on arrival. But really not sure how it works with a Pakistani passport. But it’s definitely worth the visit!!
