I just have by taking medical supplies to the front line from the UK, I’m just a retired old man but found it fulfilling and rewarding. I’m a volunteer but the one massive problem we had both ways was getting across the border. We were treated like aliens and outcasts and it took us 12 hours going there and 6 hours coming back just to get a mile or so, I can understand caution but I can also understand why so many humanitarian aid people give up trying to help because a 4-5 day trip turns into 7-8 days. Disgusting and someone needs to talk to the border guards in both Poland and Ukraine. That aside the ex prisoners in this video are all heroes in my eyes no matter their crimes.
While I am fully against Putin and his invasion ... and against his whole regime, it is extremely fascinating how Russia's recruitment of prisoners is qualified as low and sleezy, but Ukraine's recruitment of prisoners is noble and good. It could be a great example to give in a class about media, perspectives, biases, etc. I am not against it by the way. As long as the regime is honest and does not use them as cannon fodder. Putin's regime and army is not known for being truly honest and legal in their methods (I have real examples in mind, like young men sent to the front without an actual contract) and their prisoner recruits are sent to high-risk deathzones (according to Ukrainian soldiers). Anyway, on a positive note: becoming a soldier can be a great way to change your life, give yourself discipline, if you were falling into criminality, but of course this is a bloody war.
Ukraine values human life. Russian politics does not. It does not take a genius to understand. Even for a criminal. They are still humans. Ukraine does not deploy "fodder" tactics.
I think it's exploitative on both sides but Russia is fucked in it's propaganda ideas. They always want to be the manliest men around, so they recruited violent offenders like murderers and rapists. Then those stocks ran out and they turned to every other prisoner, and then same as they ran out. Now they're throwing anything at the Ukrainians and barely holding on. These Ukrainians are petty thieves and this video is a part of a greater mass information campaign to make this a "Noble Action" for a good cause. These men are remorseful and wanting to correct their mistake by serving and possibly dying for the nation.
There are huge differences between Russian and Ukrainian recruitment, but in your almighty ignorance you posted a semi novell without doing any research hence that makes you a troll. Just bother yourself with a 15 minute research and will see what a fundamental difference there is between Russia and Ukraine.
If they did not fight the world outside the prison could be much worse once their sentence ends. I wouldnt want to wait till russians take over that prison and use you for their prisoner units or if the war is over at that point i would fear of being put into a gulag type camp which is probably what russia would end up doing to a lot of ukrainians if they actually took over the country.
I fear that things will not go well for these guys. The US military learned long ago that the best, most survivable soldiers come from volunteers among the middle class. The major purpose of Basic Training is to impose a new total institution on a person in order to eliminate life ways and habits that do not contribute to mission accomplishment and survival. All are punished for the transgressions of one in order to teach new soldiers to solve discipline problems among each other. Rules are enforced and conformity to rules is inspected, rigorously, in order to build cohesion. These guys aren't getting that. Some seem genuinely motivated to change, but when things go pear-shaped, most will revert to what they know. They will be kept as a separate cohort and there will be a tendency by commanders to spend them as such. Compare this to the difference in training and equipment between Territorial Guard units and the AFU regulars. Territorial Guards are generally used to relieve the assault groups in static defense. They stand firm. They are trusted to stand firm. These guys... a fair-minded commander is going to be hard pressed to figure out how to integrate them. A prejudiced commander is going to spend them like a disposable asset. And I feel for the guy who got catfished. Just, ouch. However, he has someone to fight FOR. Maybe it's real, maybe not. But she's real to HIM. I stared at my wife's picture for hours and wrote letters home. Things didn't work out well for us (either), but she kept me alive.
Gonna be one hell of an adjustment if they ever make it back into “normal” society(whatever happens, Ukraine will be a country scarred by war, that’ll leave a big impact on society.) I hope when all is over these people are not just released back into society but get proper help. They’ll need it for sure.
Героям слава from Scotland. A lot of Russky bots here are comparing these guys to Russian prisoners, but the video addresses this -- they just need to pay attention: it's voluntary for a start, and 'volunteering' doesn't involve 'volunteering' for a private military enterprise runs by greedy psychopaths. Not all of these guys will be doing it for the right reasons, but at least the leader makes them think about it in simple terms that challenge them. Слава Україні.
Russian prisoner recruiting did by all reports not rely on force. They just lied to them regarding the realities of their intended use, sure. So likely does Ukraine, in case of the "bad prisoner units". As they have to do assaults and other physically demanding tasks (a lot of digging a wager), Wagner and all those other entities were/are selective in Terms of physical Fitness. Same here, no Oldtimers. That's the real gain here, criminals skew young, they can be motivated by hope and fear of a return to prison and most are peripheral to society.
Does anyone remember the movie The Dirty Dozen. I came to mind and so I looked it up and this is what Google's AI informed me of: The Filthy Thirteen was a demolition unit in the 101st Airborne Division's 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment during World War II. The unit earned its nickname while training in England, when they used their water rations to cook game instead of bathing and shaving. The were not in prison and released to fight, they were called the filthy thirteen because they didn't bathe. They were widely known for disciplinary issues. However the US can't point the finger at Ukraine and say you are no different than Russia because the US had a similar program with the difference being they were offered the choice at their sentencing whether to go to jail or to war this was in both the Korean War and Vietnam.
When you think these guys COULD have just sat in jail and waited out their time. Instead they didnt go out into the world BUT joined A FIGHTING UNIT. Which ever way you look at it that is quite something to do...
When you reach the front and come across the deae bodies and get pounded by artilery and fabs that make you think that your head has detached from your shoulders you will think twice and maybe wish thaf you were in jail
Ah. It can be difficult when the discipline is not there while attention is granted. Oleksii still needs to learn outward respect by listening and letting others speak, and coordinate in turns. I know he has been in prison for a while, and he has not had a voice, but continues to talk over someone else. I understand young people do dumb things, as much as myself, though I stayed out of trouble and never truly robbed anyone because I wasn't that impoverished, in truth. I also volunteered to be in the Marines when I was 19. He hasn't seen what respect in communication can cultivate, as well as he knows talking when someone brings up a point carries a sense of intention and continuous involvement, but there are other things he must learn in communication and simple respects, especially to Farmer who died. I would have slapped him with my hat and tell him to chill and that his actions and words are betraying himself as actually being fraudulent to intelligence and respect. He may get it eventually, as I truly hope he does to calm down a bit and be productive as a team, and respectful to leadership and his mates even at the smallest level. If he doesn't, it will be a shit show.. just as the battalion's head sgt had said.
It is time for rebirth, renewal, and rehabilitation from what these men have self-taught themselves. I do pray them luck and my hat tips in their direction for choosing to make a difference. just don't make me throw it at you. lol
yes good on them, I'v done a little time myself. Alot of people dont relise not everyone in jail are BAD DOOD'S, a lot of them are just normal people that have made mistakes in life.
At least the Ukrainian Army-or at a minimum, this battalion-is training these men properly before sending them into actual combat. The Russian Army and Wagner didn’t do that-and generally don’t even train or equip their volunteers. The Russian Army depends on quantity over quality, Ukraine is the reverse. I hope these men see the end of the war and successfully reintegrate back into Ukrainian civil society as law-abiding, productive citizens.
Russia doesn't care about prisoner's past. He could be a murderer with a high degree of cruelty, and still get into the army. Also even Prigozin told prisoners "Do whatever you want with the enemy, take captives or don't, Behead them if you want". They don't get good training, and they are being used only as a shield for better units. While Ukraine takes only prisoners with "light" violations of law, so no rapers, killers, junkies and etc

Here's the problem. I work with prisoners. Many have special needs and impulse control issues. Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder is rampant. You don't want someone who has poor decision making and who acts without thinking to be holding a rifle. Yes, there are people who are normal who make bad choices... but... yeah. Oh, and the mental health. The people who suffer the most from war are those with a history of child abuse. Prisoners often come from backgrounds of abuse which makes them highly likely to have, or develop, complex mental health issues. Most soldiers with PTSD also happen to have a history of child abuse... A prisoner who becomes a soldier isn't going to function well afterwards. On the flip side... soldiering can give you a sense of being close to people which is healing. People don't like everyone in their platoon but they do care about them due to the tribal nature of what it means to be in a platoon.

They are ordinary infantry men, and they will be integrated in a brigade which is litterary an assault brigade and not primarily for defence duties, namely the quite well known (at least among military neards) 1st Aussalt Brigade, also called "daVinci" after it´s founder (now KIA). As infantry men in an assault brigade they probably have more casaulties than normal. On the other hand, since daVinci is something of an elite unit, I guess they will be better trained than most new recruits. They are trained by VERY experienced and motivated officers, with almost legendary status. I don´t think these guys will be used as "meat waves". Primarely because they apparantly are still on the training ground after two months, which is a far longer training period than was given the russian ex-convicts who fought with Wagner in for instance Bakhmut. Where they were killed in droves, used as "expendables".

Ukraine is a true Democracy. I know what I'm saying, been there many times. There are less galling Laws in Ukraine than in many EC Countries and you feel more at ease. Not in wartime under Martial Law, of course. 😐

Why?!

Приємно це бачити.. Україна може мати майбутнє.
While I am fully against Putin and his invasion ... and against his whole regime,
it is extremely fascinating how Russia's recruitment of prisoners is qualified as low and sleezy, but Ukraine's recruitment of prisoners is noble and good.
Cause justifies means
@@chrisfetas2181 Yes, the context does justify it. I understand.
Just bother yourself with a 15 minute research and will see what a fundamental difference there is between Russia and Ukraine.
its over..
These men will be excellent fighters because they all have something to prove not only for them selves but to society.
Or they are looking for a chance to escape, they have already proven that they don't give a damn about society
Good luck to you.... don't do crime when you're back in UA
Great video, Kyiv Independent.
Thank you
I fear that things will not go well for these guys.
Thanks for the reality. Everything you said rang true to me.
I see your point. Some of these men will try harder, go farther in combat. They do not want to go back to the cage.
Lmfao, and they laughed at Wagner
Thanks for this interesting video.
choosing to fight when most would rather choose to leave is one way to earn your freedom
Gonna be one hell of an adjustment if they ever make it back into “normal” society(whatever happens, Ukraine will be a country scarred by war, that’ll leave a big impact on society.)
I hope when all is over these people are not just released back into society but get proper help.
They’ll need it for sure.
Aprovechad esta oportunidad. Dios os bendiga a todos. Slava Ukrainia
They were given the option of "stay in jail" or "go outside"...how many convicts do you think will choose "jail" and how many will "volunteered" ?
Is this the same army where they let convicts fought and graped the only female medic they had😂
Cope
Russian prisoner recruiting did by all reports not rely on force. They just lied to them regarding the realities of their intended use, sure. So likely does Ukraine, in case of the "bad prisoner units". As they have to do assaults and other physically demanding tasks (a lot of digging a wager), Wagner and all those other entities were/are selective in Terms of physical Fitness. Same here, no Oldtimers.
That's the real gain here, criminals skew young, they can be motivated by hope and fear of a return to prison and most are peripheral to society.
Hahahahahahhahaha
Russia can never run an operation like this. They even throw drone operators to meat waves.
Russia doesn't use meat waves, that is just propaganda like the ghost of Kyiv story
When you think these guys COULD have just sat in jail and waited out their time. Instead they didnt go out into the world BUT joined A FIGHTING UNIT. Which ever way you look at it that is quite something to do...
Yes,Long Live Ukraine, Stay Stronge safe and take care of yourselfs, Ukraine Will Win This War 🫶🫶❤️❤️❤️ Amen 🙏🙏🙏

When Russia did it everyone was freaking out and saying how bad it is.
And now that Ukraine does it people dont care xD.
One cant help thinking of the movie... "THE DIRTY DOZEN"....
When you reach the front and come across the deae bodies and get pounded by artilery and fabs that make you think that your head has detached from your shoulders you will think twice and maybe wish thaf you were in jail
These guys should be pardoned with all charges purged
I do pray them luck and my hat tips in their direction for choosing to make a difference. just don't make me throw it at you. lol
Lol, remember when we ridiculed Russia for recruiting prisoners
prison should be about rehabilitation, these people will be your neighbours when they come out. Its in societys interest that they do well
Good insight
yes good on them, I'v done a little time myself. Alot of people dont relise not everyone in jail are BAD DOOD'S, a lot of them are just normal people that have made mistakes in life.
🇺🇦👍🥲
At least the Ukrainian Army-or at a minimum, this battalion-is training these men properly before sending them into actual combat. The Russian Army and Wagner didn’t do that-and generally don’t even train or equip their volunteers. The Russian Army depends on quantity over quality, Ukraine is the reverse. I hope these men see the end of the war and successfully reintegrate back into Ukrainian civil society as law-abiding, productive citizens.
The Dirty Dozen was a movie about this
oh so now penal battalians are ok
when Russia did this everyone freaked out but now all I see is cheers lmao

Rest in Peace.Giving up prison for a 1 week lifespan on the frontlines is a "good" trade off.
The Ukrainians are fighting for their country, the Russians are fighting to conquer their neighbor.
I wonder how long they will be this obidience until they have a chance to just deserted just like the other conscripts?
When Russia did this weren't all you people saying how horrible they were? Whats the difference? Im genuinely curious.
@@rdanik00that's not true at all. Russia did not use rapist nor murderers.

Russia literally let anyone out including:
murders, rap*sts, pedoph*les, cannibals. And now russian criminals can stop investigating against them by signing a contract with the army.
AND THEY ARE FREE TO DO EVERYTHING THEY WANT ON OCCUPIED TERRITORIES - so Ukrainian citizens are in danger, that’s why Ukraine accused russia!
The Ukrainians are fighting for their country, the Russians are fighting to conquer their neighbor.
Many want to scape, they understand what's a FAB 3000 stands for
😂😂 the same one that condemned Russia for doing the same
Not the same. The Ukrainians are fighting for their country, the Russians are fighting to conquer their neighbor.
FAS isn't a guaranteed case of that shit you listed. And not everyone with the typical physical traits of FAS actually has it, some poor fuckers are just born with an unfortunate mug.

How many rich men are fighting for Russia?
Heroim slava!
He won’t come back because the Ukrainian command will send them to the most brutal part of the frontline
People were laughing when Russia recruted prisoners, now Ukraine does the same and its different and somehow more acceptable, lmao. Seems like Ukraine has only prisoners left to send to the front.
Literally no one was laughing. But russia used them as canon fother for their meat waves tactic.
