Ah. Thank you for this info. I'm in 2A.
I wonder if you can do a layer of plastic on the bottom, closed cell foam, and then the concrete. I've heard some concrete takes about 30 days to cure before you can start building on it, but it might just be the type of concrete and it likely depends on the weather/climate. I would dearly love to have a basement but we'd hit the water table before we could get deep enough for one here. They almost hit it digging for a septic tank. Got into some very white sand toward the bottom.
There's a youtube channel where they are building a garage (and later a house) near Houston and had to dig out 4ft of ground and have SelectFill put in. I don't think they used plastic tarps under the concrete though. The cable thing for tightening the foundation is very cool. I've never seen that before. Will they do that with basement floors as well?
I'm paranoid enough I would have the hurricane straps AND the bolts. Better safe than sorry. If I could get a basement I would want ICF of some sort.
One thing I didn't see mentioned on foundation was radon remediation. Is that mentioned in any future videos? When we lived in a concrete block house in Guam we all got over-exposed to radon because the detector for it broke. Had to open some windows and let it air out.
I honestly am not a fan of concrete slab for the foundation because I'm accustomed to living in homes that are off the ground more and are on sort of triangular blocks. I'm sure there are more efficient ways to do the raised houses, but having a crawlspace is good and you don't have to cut through cement to mess with plumbing & electrical.
the tips on what to look for with a builder were very helpful.
As an aside, what was the green stuff painted on the wood in the earlier part of the video?

If you use closed cell spray foam the plastic isn't needed because the closed cell gives you water and vapor protection. No the open cell. The green stuff is a boric acid treatment for wood destroying insects. Thanks for watching.
