  • Oddworld Lore: The Three Weirdos is a video on Oddworld lore by pupbenny that takes a closer look at the Mudokon ghostly spirits known as The Three Weirdos, also known as Those Dudes Now Dead, from Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus who ask for the help of Abe as the saviour of the Mudokons to put a stop to the Glukkons mining operations and shut down SoulStorm Brewery.
    Oddworld was created by Lorne Lanning who founded Oddworld Inhabitants which has produced many games, Including Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus, Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath and Oddworld: Soulstorm. I find the Oddworld lore fascination and hope to bring the Oddworld universe to life by telling the story of it and it's characters, creatures and locations so that they can be explained and theorised about by delving into Oddworld theory and the lore of the universe of the Oddworld games!

    I've just realised they said 'Spirit Powers' Not 'Scary Powers'. Whoops. Always sounded like 'Scary Powers' to me. XD Maybe the out-of-placeness of 'scary powers' is why I found that line so funny. Now I know why it seemed so out-of-place: HE DOESN'T SAY IT! lol.

    The Three Weirdos are characters that have such a unique personality among the mentor figures of Oddworld. They're unique situation, motivations and humour certainly make them distinct and really likeable. Plus they can give Abe SCA-A-A-R-Y POW-WAHS!!!!

      I remeber that in Soulstorm abe got the recipe for the brew antidote from a sick mudokon rather then coming up with it himself.

    • @goblinden6380
      @goblinden6380 Рік тому +3

      I think that entire antidoe mechanic whould have worked better if they kept the idea of Feeco being the hub for the rest of the game. Let me explain: The first few levels in the game were probably intended to be tutorial levels ( Monsaic Lines, Gorge, Sorrow Valley, Phat Station) that would lead up the Feeco Deepot. Feeco would have been a hub world that abe could have used to access the other factories (Slig Baracks, Bonewerkz, Necrum) via the hijacked train. Then abe whoud have to venture all of these levels before ending at Sousltorm Brewery. Prior to this Abe would have had collected ingredients from different levels in the game and ( like exoddus) would have to return to certain areas to go back and save sick muds. I think this because I remember there being a shot in Soulstorm that shows different locations on the map with pictures that represent different ingreedients.

      @@goblinden6380 That would've been really good if they'd implemented the hub idea. Would've been totally different and I think would've worked better. I mean for the spirits of mudokons, they pretty much act like Mudokons. Most of their species act like self righteous assholes who are selfish, but do have a slight sense of care for each other. 4:15 Taking into account that the Meeches were going to have their own temple in Abe's Oddysee before being cut from the game, I feel like the third one representing a Fleech might be either a retcon or a typo in the artbook. It doesn't make much sense for Fleeches to be as sacred as Scrabs and Paramites since we know that their current form is a product of experimentation by Vykkers, and they are only present in Necrum because young Glukkons usually throw them into the sewers when they start growing.

    I've always thought that the three weirdos are the spirits of the warriors of the Mudomo and Mudanchee tribes, I wonder if the fact that they don't have all their body parts is because the Glukkons took their bones or because when they died they lost some arms or legs or the whole torso... I think the first, because the spirits trapped in ghost traps are just green lights, yet they are the same spirits, so I assume that those are spirits whose body has been deprived of all bones and therefore he was left with only the soul. (I probably explained myself badly). I don't think that industrialists don't believe in the existence of Mudokon spirits, or simply those who don't believe it are those Glukkons who don't work there directly, (Like Aslik, Dripik, Phleg, Mullock...) If all industrialists don't they believed there would be no sense in ghost traps placed in the necrum to keep the spirits at bay while the Glukkon desecrate their bones. Have you noticed that there are ghost traps in the Feeco depot as well? Strange right? I think they are there because perhaps some mudokon spirit tried to enter the Glukkon factories to take revenge, but they got stuck here. By the way, I never understood what those green "crystals" were that we see when we set off a trap, perhaps a type of gem that has the power to hold back spirits or a kind of altar decoration that other mudokons create for their deceased where the traps were then built. All in all, I think the weirdos are a good presence, but also aggressive if they want, let's remember that they were still warriors! (or shamans) I love those three!

    When you talked about how the Three Weirdos' Headdresses were related to the Sacred Animals at about 4:20 and further, I must disagree with you on what Headdress resembled what animal. I feel that One-Arm's five fingered Headdress resembles the Paramites five upper face finger things, and while One-Leg and Floaty's Headdresses are similar I think Floaty's is the Scrab one as the side-view reminded me of the upper jaw of the Scrabania cutscene's Scrab lifting it's head while howling. Before I started writing this comment I scrolled down to see if anyone also felt the same way as I didn't just want to make a duplicate comment but I didn't see any other comment about it, though I may have just missed it, but I did see the comments about how the third should be the extinct Meeches instead of Fleeches as Fleeches are an artificial creature and so I looked up what the Meeches might look like and from what I saw I think the tusk like things on One-Leg's Headdress might be the side jaw things of a Meech. I could be wrong though.
    TLDR My thoughts are:
    One-Arm = Paramite
    One-Leg = Meech?
    Floaty = Scrab
    I'd have no idea if it really was Fleeches instead of Meeches.

    since I don‘t believe the weirdos are secret industrialists, the eyes may just be an artistic choice to make them creepy.
