A key main thing to show and thoroughly explain in your videos about various gps devices and apps is how easy it is to pick the road or bridge we want to take as opposed to the route the device chooses for us to take. And please don't throw out that Garmin. I'm accepting donations. Thank you 😊

The Garmin was actually sold a few weeks ago…..I recouped some of my money and the new owner got a good deal on a barely used GPS.

    • @Hundert1
      @Hundert1 2 роки тому

@@TravelswithDelaney Oh that's nice you were able to sell it and not have a complete loss. But do you get my point about having a GPS system that's very easy to change the route a bit in advance so we can avoid certain places we don't want to go near like cities and bridges, even if it takes us another few minutes or so to get to our final destination. Usually as we get closer to cities the traffic can get insane. The GPS might think it's a faster way not realizing there's a good chance lots of traffic will be there. Nothing worse than bumper to bumper driving and congestion. The ideal GPS system would produce a nice big list of several feasible alternative routes that aren't too outta the way either. Thanks

Great video, just like the Garmin RV 890 review. I have the RV 770 which uses the same maps, and I'm often frustrated about the errors or the nonsense this device wants me to do. What's even more frustrating, is that Garmin - to whom I have several times with great detail complained - always defends everything. And if it's not defensible they say that they are not responsible for the maps because they buy them from another company - what a joke. What I like about the Garmin device are the Up Ahead and Elevation panels at the side of the screen, and also the voice announcements and directions (much better than Google Maps). I use now usually the Garmin device and an iPad with (downloaded) Google Maps simultaneously, and that works very well. But I will look into Roadpass after this review! Thanks for this video.

In icy north TX right now, then headed east to Florida, then the Keys, then north to Miami then, Savanah, Charleston then on home. Some great Harvest Host places we have already stayed in are, Hidden Meadow Vineyards, The Great Mississippi Tea Co ( great tour on how they grow and process tea)brought tea on a tray the morning we left. Belmont Plantation near Greenville, Mississippi, amazing, and they feed us bkfst in the mansion. We highly recommend these places for boondocking. 😊

Bear in mind that you need to review all routes. Before it was discontinued ( Garmin bought the company - GRRR!) we used software from Delorme , only about $50.. Very good versatile app - easily edited, etc. - but it loved routing through Manhattan . It was "faster" - oh joy. Also there's the cost of a good size tablet with a cell option, that exceeds the cost of a laptop or the Garmin device. Just food for thought.

About a month ago, I did a trial of Roadpass Pro for the week. I was traveling from a campground on I40 in Albuquerque, NM to a campground in Morrison, CO. This is a trip I have taken numerous times while towing my 5er. It is highway all the way but I wanted to see how this worked. It found 2 routes I could take but said neither were safe for my rig and gave me no other alternatives. In other words, according to this app, I couldn't get there from here. That was the end of my trial and I cancelled immediately. I will continue to use RV Life which, incidentally, uses the same nav system.

@@paulf1177 I have never had issues like this with RV Life navigation. When I had RV Life create a route, it found the highways I would have selected and was ready to go. Roadpass seemed to throw its hands in the air and surrender. That's unacceptable. I've been satisfied with RV Life and they continue to improve it. They have recently made it compatible with Android Auto which is a really good upgrade. I'm told that bu the end of summer, they will be integrating Open Roads fuel program with the maps on the website so we can see real time diesel prices during planning stages.

So the Garmin is $500 one time cost. But you have to buy the iPad Pro and a car mount and a car charger then pay monthly and yearly for services fees and you didn’t add all that up and disclose the total for let’s says five years? In service fees alone for five years you’ll pay $1,450. Doesn’t sound like saving money.

Thanks for your companion videos-this and the one on the Garmin 890. Am traveling from the mid-Atlantic to New England for the first time in our 25 ft motorhome and our built-in Rand McNally RV nav system has permanently crashed. I never liked its routing logic, but I valued the low clearance and weight warnings. Am looking for replace and have been trying RV Life app for RV Safe Navigation. It has been very quirky so far about routing us around things on a route through residential areas when there is NO visible obstacle by continuing down a street and has taken us down supposedly RV Safe narrow streets in Philly that even in my small motorhome made me nervous.
As you state you have to be able to trust your navigation system and was thinking about the Garmin 890, but it seems like from your other video you had similar problems. Yikes!

Great video! Just subscribed to your channel. I was just about to push the purchase button on the Garmin 890 but backed away when I saw you other video. However, I do have a few questions about the TOGO RV on a tablet. The wife and I are new to RVing (camper trailer) for 3 years now and love love it. We discovered Boondocking and will never go back to parks. Here are the questions: 1. I have a standard Garmin and do like it, mostly because the places we go, we lose cell service. Does the app on the Tablet rely on cell service? If it does, how do you get around that? 2. I see the TOGO RV app states camping and RV parks, does the "camping" sites include state, federal and dispersed camping sites, in other words, the free sites? I hope to hear back soon as we are getting ready to plan our upcoming trips and I'd really like something that will make our trips easier and more enjoyable. Thank you, Wil

    • @TravelswithDelaney

Unfortunately the iPad and the app does rely on cell signal. We carry a basic Garmin GPS with us in the truck in case we get into a situation where we would lose cell signal on the iPad. So far, we have not had to pull out the Garmin but we have it in case we need it. The TOGO app has a section to find RV parks and a 2nd function to find overnight RV parking. That can include anything from rest areas to Cracker Barrel, etc.

If you don’t have cell service on your iPad, you have to purchase a gps tracker to plug into your iPad so that it can find and track your location.

I have an iPad already that we use so for us that was not an additional cost. Only sharing what we did and how it works for us

What if you don't have cell coverage?

The built in navigation on the truck will be used in those cases. And most likely the only places where that would occur would be in areas where I really won’t have to worry about RV specific navigation as you’d always have cell coverage in the white knuckle metropolitan areas.

You talk about $49.99/yr but you also pay $20/mon for AT&T internet

That is true but that gives me unlimited data on my iPad which I use for lots of other things anyway.
