Things you might have missed in the hunger games & ballad of the songbirds and snakes.
How is violence etched into the design of the hunger games? How do clothes, buildings and colour enforce brutality and spark a revolution?
I look at some of the smaller details that stood out to me in each movie and theorise how the scenes help flesh out the dystopian world of Panem. From Panem flag's ancient rome influences, Snow's snowflake apartment, Effie's costumes to the smaller details.
The curtains were not blue.

i looove looking too deeply into things so please share if you noticed anything interesting in thg too! This is my last video on the hunger games for a while I promise because the next one's going to be on colleen hoover.
also i already regret not making this video like 2 hours long... maybe next time...
I CAN WATCH U ALL DAY. Not only are you so articulate and concise about your analysis, you have impeccable comedy timing and music choices
sending you love! ty speaking of concise-ness i always regret not saying more the minute i upload so i am gradually trying to break into the 1hr long type videos... but idk who would watch for an hour let's see.
It is so refreshing to see people analyse the hunger games as the criticism of neoliberalism and colonialism that they are. I’m tired of ‘race isn’t relevant to panam’ YOUR CHANNEL IS GREAT and so thorough and funny without being shallow??
ty for the love! one thing i love doing research for all these thg donald sutherland (snow) in his interviews is also very aware of this aspect of the books and often calls for young people to band together for change which i respect
Both you and Cinna have a PhD in Slayology cause this vid serveddddd ✨✨✨
11:47 this is very specific but the "its to make you sick so you csan keep on eating" was a practice aristocrats also did within roman times too. i love how the worldbuilding of these novels so clearly harks back to what we were taught as "civilised nations" or at least what is glorified within modern society (like in history class growing up we learned about ancient european civilisations such as ancient rome and greece but no so much other societies) and i think you mention this as well. something something challenges audience expectations through the juxtaposition . i love how the capitol makes itself out to be a bastion of civilisation against barbarians and glorifies the old times as a basis for their ideology, it is remincent of facist and nazi ideology whereing they based alot of the mythology on ancient heroics i cant remember off the top of my head i studied this like two years ago but it was a thing anyway i love hearing your analysis please make a 2 hour analysis video i would watch it
im getting dejavu sorry if ive mentioned this before
also i want your comedic timing UNETHICAL MUKBANG
this is an amazing point! 100% suzanne was referencing that as well esp w all the greek/roman references in her book. and yess imperial powers always love to position themselves as the civilised the powerful the great whilst to obtain that 'might and power' racism poverty brutality runs rampant on their streets of their own doing.
Very interesting analysis! With the fact that the hunger games movies were so awfully promoted (bringing attention more to the "love triangle" than, you know, the death games) and the subsequent brutal milking of the franchise ("make-up that makes you look like a capitol citizen! how fun!"), I forget that there was actually care put into them. i do like the nods to the visual language of the roman empire, as well as following fascist structures. Good video!
It's also so fascinating to see how the movies were misconstrued and reduced to things like the love triangle and the makeup because it reflects how easy it actually is to step into the passive, complacent shoes of those within the Capitol. It makes the story even more harrowing because of it.
@@afuturefamousperson wholeheartedly agree! I think the first movie at least deserves credit, because (from what I remember) that was the least "polished" of them all, and more true to the book
0:31 "how does president snow turn into a baddie" love it 😭😭
1:52 💀
8:13 luv the 1984 reference
9:02 real
10:32 PRESIDENT SNOWS DANDRUFF 😭
he needs some nizoral fr...
You’re so real for posting 3 hunger games videos in a row
tribute 4 lyf. but enough of me talking about books i like bc the next video's on colleen hoover
@@itsdivyag that name alone gives me the ick lol
I've just reread the books and watched the movies and felt annoyed at plot details and dialogues the movies missed from the books, so thank you for giving me smth to love about the movies HAHAHA
tbh i'd also take a 6 hour long hunger games movie anyday but i also love the movies bc i feel like they punch the core message of each character through quite well. apart from Peeta, he needs to be more sassy/witty in the movie
@@itsdivyag so true. And yeah HES SOOO BORING. Wouldve paid anything to see him argue & flirt w katniss more in the first movie
Katniss through some tunnels to an ever-changing world!!!!
What a reductionist yet an accurate description of her story😭😭
This analysis was so interesting! We forget sometimes the small details that are used to build the scenes. Such an underrated channel 💜
I wonder if the clothes also have connotations to the restricted expression that the district citizens have, the mute colours representing a restriction of their opinions as well as identity
yess love that analysis. the only ones with 'out there' clothes are performers (Lucy Gray) or those in connection to more wealth bc when you're trying to figure out where your next meal is going to come from you don't have much luxury of choice either.
i love how detailed the analysis was - esp your notes in the background
thank u sm for watching and commenting!! means a lot
Me when I love your hunger games analysis yihh
ty for the support and showing love yo... omg
i love your videos you're so underrated
aaa
For some reason I thought capitol adopted covey (bright, eccentric) style after Lucy’s win, but instead of making fashion about individuality and freedom, they turned it into powerful aristocratic tool that distinguished them from districts
Never realized how much thought went into even the tiniest details. Amazing analysis!
This was a great video, spot-on, observant, and funny!
Something interesting about Effie's first outfit, the magenta Powersuit, she has white makeup with bleached eyebrows, to make her look like a ghost, a symbol of death to the distracts. Her eye makeup is also kinda like a clowns, to show how shes nkt tajen seriously but her desire to be taken seriously.
This is so interesting to think about!
I feel like the prequel is more dependent on the movies than the movies are dependent on the prequel. That’s why the prequel has so many more references than the actual movies, because they existed before the prequel.
Well done!👍
Love your content Divya. You are SO FUNNY and just amazing
i appreciate the support aaa
I love watching your videos they're always so engaging! Can you please please please do a video on gcse English you're videos make me actually understand English, like I'm watching you analyse the hunger games for fun 😳
LET'S GOOOOOOOO
I really had to pause the video to comment this ONE MINUTE IN but i spent so long trying to figure out the connection between bathroom tile material and the tesserae that the districts get and now i feel so stupid that THATS WHAT IT MEANT😭😭😭😭
omg no dont feel stupid pls!! it's just a theory and lowkey anything can mean anything you want it to mean in literature if you argue it well enough.
snappy and witty. ditch caffeine and adhd medicate with your videos. thank you!!!
Okay what is with the tunnels😂
symbol for her going into another world innit. the only time she stops going into tunnels is at the end of mockingjay when she's more free so maybeee?????
Ah Divya 🙃 major crush
