  • If you're buying an old house, beware of old water supply pipes; specifically, galvanized steel or lead. These pipes can lead to poor water flow in homes, to the point where you can't even run water in two places at once.

No water flow at all in our utility room sink, but all the other faucets in the house work fine. Any ideas?

You should be in philippines my current house can only run one Fawcett at a time and very little pressure less than 10 lbs I'd guess. Taxes 3to 5 minute to fill a 5gal bucket

I have a question when I turn on my lawn irrigation my water pressure is zero in the house. I had the house rebuilt 2007 and didn’t replace the water line from meter to house. I believe it’s 3/4 galvanized from then 1960s. I believe this line has corrosion we always get grit in our shower heads.

I’ve had “less than perfect” water flow ever since moving into my current house. I asked the water company to check whether their curb stop valve was fully turned on. They said it was OK but I wasn’t home at the time they checked it. I decided to inspect it myself. Unfortunately my curb stop valve is only about 1/4 open. Also a tree root has pushed the vertical curb box pipe out of position so that a curb stop tool cannot engage with the valve to rotate it. I suspect the only thing the water company did was to turn on one of my outdoor faucets and observe that (some amount of) water came out. Recently I dug a hole around my curb stop, lifted out the curb stop box, and cleared out all the roots. Now I have full access to my curb stop valve, but unfortunately it is firmly stuck at the 1/4 open position. I haven’t decided what to try next. I don’t want to break the valve or cause a leak.

After several attempts I was able to improvise a functional tool for rotating my curb stop valve. I modified a 1.5 inch socket wrench by grinding 2 slots in it which fit snugly over the rectangular actuating tab of my curb stop valve. It was necessary to use an electric impact tool initially to get the curb stop valve to break loose and rotate for the first time. The valve now rotates smoothly enough that I can operate it by hand with a 1/2” drive breaker bar. The valve does not leak or drip around its stem. When the actuating tab is at right angles to the direction of water flow the water is totally off. Rotating the actuating tab 1/4 turn in either direction provides full water flow. . The original position of the valve was just barely open. In conclusion the entire cause of my “low flow rate” was due to the curb stop valve being in the “almost closed” position. With the curb stop valve “fully open” my water flow is completely adequate. Several faucets inside the house as well as my two outdoor hose spigots can be used at the same time without an excessive drop in water pressure.

    7:40 Pentanut....LMAOOOO close-ish
    Actually it's a 51/64 inch 5-point tamper-resistant utility Buffalo cover.

Well I think "Pentanut" makes far more sense - and it will work for the rest of the world which uses the Metric system too. 👍
