    I want to thank you guys. I had a friend come over that is more mechanically inclined and this helped us step-by-step to perform this operation. I really appreciate also sharing the torque recommendations and how to do it. I found out the last person who did this had really loose bolts on this area. Now I know that it will be put in correctly. :-) I also appreciate your meticulous explanations on what to do next. It was exceptionally helpful! Two thumbs up on your video!

    Should also do a video on the LIM gaskets as well. GM used a plastic based gasket on the LIM which would leak also.

    Did this yesterday and today. It took a bit longer than 17 minutes. Just take your time and go slow, it's not that bad. The most difficult parts are removing and reinstalling the fuel rails, and getting that bendable bracket to line up. For some reason the bracket has an on-size screw hole, when it could have been made oversize. You might want to drill it out a bit and paint the bare metal right after removing the throttle body to make attaching it to the throttle body easier.

    • @kainhall
      @kainhall 3 роки тому +1

      coolant all over the block and in the oil = lower intake gasket is bad...... you answered your own question.
      .
      and yes.... spend the extra 20 bucks and replace all the gaskets.... coolant elbow O rings, injector O rings, thermostat gaskets
      .
      the upper intake gasket CAN be resued if its still soft and isnt messed up
      but its like 10 bucks for a new one....... and peace of mind is worth millions

It goes into the part of the intake where the pcv is housed. I have no idea why they dont come installed into that hole when you buy the intake but just remove the gasket face the straw looking tube up into the hole and stab it in while reinstalling the gasket onto the intake.

Immediately after putting it back together I got a throttle position sensor fault code. Replaced it hoping it had just went bad but code still exists. Now I'm getting a map sensor fault. Maybe 2 hours of running since repair. Any idea what the problem is? I suspect the Dorman intake plenum insert was not up to par. I was aware it didn't fit as snug as I'd have liked before installing but thought it would be efficient. Not in not so sure. Would that cause my engine fault codes?

    I don't get the difference between the upper and lower intake. I have a buick 2000 lesabre. My mechanic said I need a whole new intake. And I noticed I'm going through a lot of coolant. don't see any other problems. Is the upper intake only related to losing coolant?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  8 років тому

      +SirTalksALot01 Well, intake manifolds are often associated with the loss of coolant. It's likely the gaskets which are shot, but it's possible that the manifold itself needs replacing. You could do a little research on intake manifolds and coolant leaks, or maybe just ask your mechanic for clarification. It's hard to say what your problem is without actually being able to see it. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com?UA-cam&CTA%20Comment&ATony 866-403-3393

    Could I replace the plastic 3800 Series 2 cover with a metal Series 3 cover? Are they interchangeable? I suspect they changed it to a metal one in the series 3 to prevent this warpage and leaking anyways...

    Thank you for the video but I’m wondering how to decide if it’s the intake or the head gasket. My daughter’s park avenue is definitely leaking from either the intake or the head. The coolant in the radiator is sludge but the engine oil is good. I am leaning towards the head gasket what is your opinion?

      +Marty McGill Thank you for watching. The plastic intake could be the issue you are experiencing, but there are other pieces which may also be the cause. We recommend having it diagnosed at a local shop to ensure the correct repair is performed the first time. 1aauto.com

      Thanks for the reply. I'm near positive the coolant is coming from the upper intake and pooling in front of the intake close to the thermostat side. There is no coolant in the oil though. Also, the specs I found call for 89 inch pounds. Is this enough or should I go with 96? Thank you guys for your informative and professional videos.

      +semaarairsoft123 Unfortunately, we don't have a video on replacing the head gasket for this vehicle. That's a particularly large job on most vehicles though, so if you're a beginner in auto-mechanics, or you don't have a well experienced mechanic friend to help you along, you might reconsider trying to do it yourself. We typically won't discourage people from doing their own work, but it's important that you know the scope of any job before starting on it. This is a pretty good article to read through to give you a little info regarding blown head gaskets on these motors. Thanks for commenting!
