warming up is no joke, im 34 and just the last year or two I have started to really feel it, especially making sure my knees are warm. I neglected mobility work and foam rolling and almost got a serious injury, my knee buckled and gave out when I was warming up with 315, for the next several days I had to stretch and ice it and do bodyweight squats

Keep your shoulders in your socket when pressing. That usually means a much narrower grip.

Great tidbit thanks eric been doing a deadlift with a band between warmup sets to keep the chain real warm. Thinks it's actually unlocking power too, since if the body feels pain it limit force production, now I'm doing the band my back feels better and i unlocked like 2-3 reps of my sets of 5

I agree about the hamstrings but the knee can be pretty loose on open chain exercises, I hate isolating legs on machines with a passion. Hamstring curls on a stability ball or rings are probably better options for prehab.

This video is golden. Honestly. I logged in just to write this and press the like button.
I wish I saw it before I injured my knees. Nothing very serious in my age, I believe, but I still got a very unpleasant pain issue, which also took me out of the gym for a few weeks. Obviously, it led to a huge setback since I used to train almost every single day, and now I am working to address those muscle imbalances in my hamstrings and quads before I can even begin going back to my old routine.
I am certain that everybody who is doing squats (no matter heavy or high volume bodyweigth) has to do knee flexion as well just to prevent long-term knee injuries.

Hey Ricky, the long head of the biceps attach onto the supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula therefore crossing the shoulder joint, so they help with forward flexion of your shoulder as well as stabilisation of the shoulder during presses and stuff like that so, it's a good idea to warm them up ( just incase anyone was wondering about why you should warm up your biceps)

  • @dude157

One of the best shoulder health things I've found is heavy farmer's walks. Did YTLW's and junk for years and didn't feel any different when I cut it out. 2x pull volume and do heavy farmer's walks.
Haven't tried bands but that's a good idea. In GPP or hypertrophy phases I also find ring or TRX pushups are huge to condition all those supporting muscles. Slamming 5 heavy bicep curls pre-bench seems to help the bar bend cue.

adrian silva they get some flack for the sheering force on the knees but for my rehab purposes, I am doing them to build my VMO back up. Nothing really isolates the quads quite like the leg extension so I think it has its place for hypertrophy purposes as long as you don't go overboard with it. As for strength, it'll have just about zero carryover to all your big lifts lol

This was really helpful advice especially since I'm pressing 4x per week. Would you recommend the same glute/hamstring type warm-ups for frequent squatting as well? Like hamstring curls and stuff?

have you heard of the vertical diet? I'd like to hear an elite athletes perspective on it (not even joking I'm genuinely curious)

I know the general suggestions are that behind the neck press (Not heavy) and behind the neck lat pull down are stapled as bad but was doing some research and people are suggesting that those two exercises help with shoulder stability, thought anyone?

PlasticCup They aren't terrible but you have to work up slowly from a very low weight to be sure your rotator cuff in that extremely stretched position isnt compromised

I hear don't even try to do the behind the neck press if you have shoulder issues and I believe it was Jeff Nipard (might have spelled his name wrong) who cited a study that stated the behind the neck press is all regardless of shoulder mobility.
But what I don't get is why even do it? Unless you plan on doing snatches, the only other benefit I heard is more medial delt activation.

I thought deadlifting uses a lot of hamstrings. I tweaked my hamstring during a sumo deadlift once , but I never injured my quads.
