  • After giving us an awesome interview about School Streets, City of Paris Urban Planner Priscilla Benedetti offered to take me on a tour of the 12th arrondissement and since I had some time before my next meet up I happily agreed. What she showed me in the next hour or so blew my mind away - not only due to the quality of the transformations but also the speed at which Paris is doing things.
And this is only a small section of the arrondissement, remember citywide Paris is undertaking big changes to its streets both physically but also policies! Nothing was more than a mile away from the school street I filmed her at (a small tease to our next Streetfilm is given at the head of the film).
If you think your city cannot do it due to funds, that is simply not the case. All cities can re-prioritize safer places for people and do this kind of work - it just takes the "will" and "guts" like Gil Penalosa loves to say!

Love seeing cities heal themselves. It's amazing that anyone might think that car traffic is more important than these spaces. Hopefully the city doesn't relapse.

Excellent examples of how important it is to put something in place and then evaluate if it's working, rather than endless planning, consultants and meetings.

"Schools streets" (rue des écoles) program is amazing, I wish many more streets like that. For me one of the biggest Hidalgo achievements.
"Adopt a tree" initative didn't really work, most were abandoned.

The School Streets Film is next up, maybe end of next week. And it is phenomenal.

Great video! We had visited these sites in 2022 since they were close to the Aparthotel we stayed at (on the school street). There was a lot of construction at the time, the results look amazing! I was astounded by all the bike paths, glad to see even more now. We even got to view the tree garden showed here, and talked to the gardener!

Great video! It is great to see the transformation of my favorite city. I lived there in 2016/2017 and was amazed at how much more bike-friendly it was when I visited in early 2022.

I live in this neighborhood and those are huge improvements. The rue Érard does not looks like a ugly parking anymore, it is now a pleasant street.

Nicely Done. Would be a good example for more municipalities to know what they can do with their communities.

Thanks for the video. They have the right to be very proud. They're so ambitious and actually delivering.
I have visited Paris last month and it amazed me compared to a few years ago. Even the Champs-Elysees, although it's still got 8 car lanes, was actually cyclable. Paris is moving so quick. I think that even the Dutch should be jealous of their progress.
