I just can’t thank you guys enough, I’m actually shocked that you guys got my kit to me over which is over 10,000 miles away in a couple of days, I gave up on customer service along time ago but you guys have gone above and beyond to help me and I will be definitely using Hard Racing as my main parts supplier. I can’t get the smile off my face 🤘 keep up the great work.
Very welcome. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Starting to think this clutch cover is going to be one of the first real performance mods I’ll do to my 2015 Grom. Thanks for making this video and all your procedurals, they help a lot. Related: I really gotta start using my torque wrench more...
Thanks for the great video, made putting on my cover and new clutch springs a breeze
That's what we like to hear. ;-)
just installed all these parts, minus the oil cooler. thanks for the video and the parts
It was a "must have "for my grom !
Love it
Thanks for posting up
i just ordered this cover and the tools from your site, thanks for the video it helped me make up my mind lol
That is great news. Glad we could help.
Great/very helpful video! - one note for those owners of 2nd gen bikes (mine's a 2018), you will need to loosen up the foot peg bracket (1 bolt, one nut) to provide clearance to remove the clutch cover. Kudos to HR for putting these videos out, they have my business!
Thank you very much for the review and post. We greatly appreciate it.
True, well said
Love the videos. So very helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to do all of this!!!
That's great to hear. We really appreciate the feedback.
that's a great install simple and ez thanks for the video
Thank you.
I just did all this minus the oil cooler today. This video is really helpful. The only thing I had to do differently was remove my rear set to get the side cover off.
That's great. Thank you for the feedback.
You followed this video exactly? I want to do it but I see one their site more parts that come with the kid that weren’t explained in this video
Very explanatory, great video thx
Thank you very much. We greatly appreciate it.
Thank you for very good instructions :)
Very welcome. Glad you enjoyed it.
Love that conversion. Definite must and not very difficult minus a few tools. Much better that taking the case off each time to clean the spinner
Exactly . :-)
sales @hardracing I noticed the casing has an unmachined lug for a kickstarter. Now that would be a welcome conversion also. This must for the ssr as well
Am really impressed with your knowledge and your reply in comment section is encyclopedic. How did you learn all this in this manner?
LOL... thank you for the kind comments.
excellent video!
+Nathan Gallentine
Thank you very much for the feedback.
We greatly appreciate that.
Hello again. Was wondering about the oil cooler. CAN, you install it upside down so it it higher in the airflow from the air flowing between the front fender and the light assembly? I think it would allow more airflow to hit the engine with the oil cooler raised up 3 inches. What do you think?
Hi, just a quick question, what torque should the clutch basket nut be done up to if changing out the clutch plates at the same time as the springs?
Cheers
Great install but what filter does the new cover use, can’t find the size anywhere.
After the case install, how often is it recommended to open the case to clean the oil screen?
what are the torque specs on the banjo bolts on the oil cooler and clutch cover?
Is cutting the dipstick required? I have ordered a oil temp gauge which mounts directly into the dipstick port. I am guessing that the temp probe is the same length as the dipsticks. thank you. Bob.
Awesome video! Just a tip for making it easy for watchers to find the items/product! Put the direct links to them in your description box!
TOJO RC
Thanks.
Our main page, for HardRacing.com, takes customers to one click away from seeing ALL Grom Bike Specific parts.
HardRacing yes but I still think linking direct to the products your installing is better! But don't matter love your stuff and have no trouble to find it. Guess it just me and ease of use =D
Wow excellent video. I have a Honda monkey I might be doing this to it. By the way does the Grom rev faster without the 2.5 filter on the crankshaft.
motorcycleguy73 that’s what I want to know too for my monkey
great video and a big thumbs up for that clutch/spinner tool part number! Now that you have the SF (I'm in Australia and have the US spec SF) can you confirm if this will all fit? The only difference i have seen with the new vs the 'OG' is the turn signal plug has gone to 2.8-3mm spade/blade connectors. I found this out because i bought the op-mid temp indicator after watching your video on it and just had to splice different connectors to their supplied power wire. The CHT plug was the same and it works a treat! hoping this all works with no issues! looking for clutch upgrade in the near future!
Yes, confirmed it will fit the SF
Do you tighten the clutch spring plate bolts all the way down and then 9flbs?
I here of people having trouble with their clutch engaging and shifting after put stiffer springs and plate
thanks!
this video is very helpful for my install, but did you guys have to adjust the clutch adjuster on the clutch cover after installation?
Yes, that is correct. You will need to adjust the clutch Lever/Cable once you do this install.
What size socket did you use for the oil pass nut, that goes on after the collar and washer?
when putting the new filter in, do you do the filter then the spring then the cap?
if i install the bbk and new clutch cover should i insall the oil coller to the new head or the new cover
Does the kitaco kit come with everything needed besides the Honda too to remove the oil soinner ?
How does the Takegawa clutch cover compare to the Kitaco?
Very good video*****
Thank you very much. We appreciate the feedback.
Hey, will it still be compatible if I have a Big Bore kit on my grom?
I had a 183cc bigbore kit on the grom but than the intake valve broke. I decided to switch back to the original 125cc bore. The clutchsprings are the only things that remains from the 183cc and now I have the following problem:
if I go for a top speed run when the engine isn't fully warmed up (lets say 200F) my speed is 66 miles/hour. But when the engine is fully warmed up (say 240F) my top speed is 59 miles/hour.
Also when the engine is warm the top speed is only maintained in 3th gear. If I change to 4th gear it can't keep up and I can't ride harder than 47 miles.
I also have a TTO temperature sensor which I put between the (NGK 7)sparkplug washer and the head. This may cause the spark plug to be pushed a little bit too far back out of the head?
Do you think that it's possible that its caused by the stronger clutchsprings? Or do you have any other suggestion what could be the problem?
If I change clutch springs I will install the Kitaco Clutch Cover too in one run so I am curious about what you have to say. You helped me out before when I bought something from you that you recommended.
I was wanting to watch your Power Vision 3 installation vid but I was brought here...
What link did you click ?
The installation link on the webpage for the PV3.
what is the factory dowel pin, with the hole in its purpose, i can see the channel in the case that it goes in, was oil going up and over to the other side ? i do not own one of these just watching the video and thought i would ask, if i saw it in person im sure i would figure it out
So what is the key to making sure the oil is flowing thru your cooler
What is the size of the oil spinner and clutch basket lock nuts?
so that oil cooler is completely held up by the two bolts in the center that go to the valve cover? there isnt any additional support or brackets for it?
Correct. Or we also offer an optional Frame Bracket as well. store.hardracing.com/kitaco-frame-bracket-plates-upper-and-lower-13-20-honda-grom-grom-sf.html
I did all of these upgrades last night. I used the larger kitaco cooler and I’m running into clearance issues with the cooler hitting the front fender when the suspension is compressed. Any cooler mounting bracket modifications that you can recommend? Thanks :)
Yes, for sure we recommend the Frame Bracket be used when all possible.
store.hardracing.com/cart.php?target=product&product_id=31515
Do you have a link to the Honda specific tool?
Question: So the kitaco clutch cover eliminates the need for a spinner and an oil cooler is optional?
Correct..!
does the honda recommended tool need a special adapter to fit into a socket wrench? looking at getting barnett clutch plates
It uses a standard 1/2" socket extension.
Can we usee this cover at Wave/Supra 125? Thans and regards
JC
if you're not adding an oil cooler, does the new cover and removal of the spinner change the oil capacity?
Pretty much same as stock.
Just keep in mind they raised the price by about 27%. It $300 now.
Unfortunately, Costs of Material have gone up, over the past 5 years since this video was made. as well as shipping, and covid related supply chain issues has caused the increase price approx. $59
@@HardRacingPerformanc I found one for $279. Yeah, I bought it. It really is a great mod. I am not going to install until I get my high flow oil pump and oil cooler.
Great video, It really is going to make the job a cake walk.
how tight did you tighten the bolts on the friction plate that covers the clutch springs?
+GoTankYourself Shows 9 lb/ft
Make sure you do a little at a time. and criss cross.
how did you remove the bearing from the old clutch plate? does it need a special tool?
Yo Pablo Just pops out with your thumbs.
not bad product but i like to look at my clutch assembly and wear at bottom of pan side while changing oil.
Curious question why would I need the stock oil screen if the Kitaco has an oil filter? Wouldn't you still need to clean the screen during an oil change.?
+Aaron Rehor
It's just a recommendation by the manufacturer.
If you don't want to run the screen, you don't have to.
I am from the philippines. And i want to purchase that side cover with the oil cooler. Can you help me..thank you..
What’s the name of the ratchet wrench you use?
Are there any side effects of a filter vs spinner besides spinning mass? Does it filter worse?
We've had the cover on all our Groms for the past 4 yrs. and have felt ZERO side effects.
The Cartridge Filter definitely, filters much more contaminants then the spinner and screen.
That's why nearly every modern sport bike and Car, and Truck all have a True Cartridge type filter.
hi, in this system what exactly hose is, clutch cover in? or out. I mean which hose is in to radiator which is out? thx
It doesn't matter. since Both hoses run to the radiator, and it's bi-directional.
Hi, i have a question. Do you ship internationally? Because i live in Sweden and im really interested in some of your stuff.
Jackepacken
Yes, indeed.
We are a global distributor.

12:53 is the collar and capture nut necessary?
What oil filter does it take and what oil should I use?
Sure. It's a OEM Honda p.n. 15412-HB6-003 We also have it listed all over our website. store.hardracing.com/kitaco-clutch-cover-244-13-20-honda-grom-grom-sf-in-stock.html
how does oil get in and out of the filter compartment? i dont see any holes or channels
There are 2 small oil ports in the back of the filter compartment.
When you torque the capture nut to 47 lb ft, what is stopping the crank from turning?
+Raddish! We wedged a little device in between the two gears.
You can also hold the flywheel with the holder as well.
A wrench on the nut behind it.
Yep. Many ways to accomplish the same result.
If you need something else to wedge the flywheel anyway, why do you recommend buying the holder? (And why did I buy it?) Also, you cannot use the flywheel holder for the capture nut. It does not fit in the gap between the flywheel and the other insert.
After watching a few folks on youtube do this clutch cover I have yet to find anyone speaking about torque. The oil spinners weight acts like a flywheel. Lighter will reduce the torque a lot. The engine may seem to spin easier but it can be stopped from spinning much easier. I want to see the differences on a dyno.
That's actually not correct. It Does not have any effect on the torque the motor can output. If you reduce the weight in the flywheel it will reduce the work the engine has to do allowing it to rev more freely. The Torque is measured by horsepower of the engine x 5252, divided by the RPMs.
@@saleshardracing1561 I'm not here to argue. Feel free to dyno a before & after. Torque is the engines spinning force. It's altered based on the weight of an engines crank. The heavier the crank the harder it is to stop the engine spinning. Horsepower isn't the measure of an engine spinning. No doubt that the oil spinner contributes to the engines spinning force. All I want to know is how much torque the little engine has both before the oil spinner is removed & after the oil spinner is removed.
@@saleshardracing1561 Question, not an issue of reducing torque but rather removing the spinner, yes will make it easier for the motor to spin up rpm's faster due to the reduced mass and weight BUT would it not also be true if the engine was used more for lower rpms and say off road use, not high rpm use the added weight of the spinner spinning making the crank "heavier" reduces the ease of the engine quitting or stalling out when used at those lower ranges?
Just because one mod or change works well for power and performance for a motor doing high speed runs where performance in the 11,000 rpm range is king does not mean those same modifications will be a plus in an engine where its performance better suites the task in the 6000 rpm range.
I love the replaceable oil filter feature and the available oil ports for an external oil cooler but question whether my usage of lower rpm offroad combined with sub 9500 rpm normal cruising usage of the engine if retaining the weight of the oil slinger would actually be better for my use scenario?
14:21 how can i tighten the pass nut without the shaft rotating
what size is the oil pass nut that you torqued to 47 foot pounds ? how did you keep the crank from turning when you tightend it thanks have a great day !
It's all discussed in the video. You just got to watch it. ;-)
I can’t stop the crank shaft from spinning😡
Does the spinner in the gen 2 Grom still weigh as much as the gen 1?
Yes
I definitely want the Kitaco Clutch Cover for easy oil changes but I am unsure about the HD Clutch Springs and Billet Spring Plate. Will I need them for commuting? I will not be doing any tricks/wheelies or redlining. Thanks! 😀
stiffer springs are Not really necessary if you don’t want to
HardRacing Got it! Same goes for the Billet Spring Plate, yes? Thanks again.
That's still a good part to get, for reliability, since the stock one does break on occasion.
Thank you! :D
anytime. Always here to help.
Can you keep the spinner but add the cover? The bike feels like crap now that I've pulled the flywheel off. It really needs that weight.
No it does not, it rev matches better, starts up more easily & operated more efficiently after the update + you can check the oil status with the sight glass, add an oil cooler & use an actual oil filter that makes the oil change 10 faster & easier // check your tuning, think about getting a PCV, chimera & after market exhaust // tune that Grom to make it go better, row them gears with more precision, rev faster like a vision, zoom zoom //
@@AaronSchwarz42 Mine no longer wheelies because it doesn't have the kick anymore, burns the shit out of my clutch, stalls way earlier, and idles like shit. Of course I can change my oil easier, but it just doesn't feel right at all. Feels like I may have lost a bit of engine braking too and the oil sounds sloshy at high rpms. Can't be good for it.
@@AaronSchwarz42 Fixed a bunch of it. The ECU wasn't happy with the mod. A second reset and it's running way better. Still loses wheelie torque. Regained low end torque and a bit more top end.
Does the super oil pump eliminate the need for the oil mod that lowers the oil intake for wheelies?
The super oil pump flows extra 40% more oil....... But still uses same pickup location as stock.
So from the video I saw showing how much oil pumps at sit down wheelie angle maybe the 40% will work, but then the stand up steep wheelie angle will be 40% more than zero & still a problem. But I only plan to do sit down wheelies so maybe that's all I need. Thanks.
So hw does it run?? Ive only changed e oil pump but not wit e kitaco kit cover
+Rezz Rizzie
It runs amazingly well.
The Motor Revs up very fast.
I’m sorry in advance if this is a stupid question but I just received my clutch cover kit from you guys and I was wondering how the oil filter is effective when the housing is totally sealed in its own compartment how will the oil be filtered?
That's not a dumb question. The Filter is actually NOT Sealed in it's own compartment. There are small oil ports in there that feed the oil through the filter and back out.
Great! Thank you for clarifying also I just finished installing the clutch cover and super oil pump. Oil cooler system is next and then the Ohlins rear shock I also ordered from you guys
@@antoniochacon7985 That's excellent news. ;-)
Anyone know why after installing the clutch cover the bike shuts off when trying to place into 1st gear? It’s starts just fine in neutral ughhh
@@antoniochacon7985 That would indicate something wasn't installed correctly.
14:09 how did you torque it down without having that shaft move?
we had a special tool that goes between the two gears.
But you can use anything, like a pop stick, or a hard piece of plastic, or a clutch tool holder like this.
store.hardracing.com/cart.php?target=product&product_id=30084&category_id=2681
What about the thermostat that is required? When adding oil cooler?
Not on this one. You are thinking of the Takegawa Clutch Cover. That's a totally different product.
whats the benefit of heavier clutch springs? heavier clutch pull?
More Positive Clutch Engagement and less slip.
Would this be the first mod you’d recommend?
Yes, indeed.
Why not a rear pickup while doing all this
Is this mod doable at home ?
how much oil needs to be added with the cover and oil cooler
Same as the manual shows. All of this is discussed in detail in the video above.
Will this kit work on a 2018 grom, or is there another kit for that year?.....thanks
Yes it works on 2018 a well.
Do I have to cut dipstick, can't I just keep it the way it is, or does it get in the way of something inside the cover, I'd prefer to not cut it...? Thanks
Can you kindly provide the oil capacity specs with this modification? Thx!
We discuss it in detail in the video.
What is the recommend oil to use with this?
Honda GN4 for break in, and then Any Good Full Synthetic MOTORCYCELE oil after break in.
Did the new dowl pins come with the kit
Yes
@@HardRacingPerformanc nice looking at buying a grom, I have a secondary bike just dont know if it will be good
How does oil flow through the filter? The plumbing isn't very obvious from the information I can find. Where does it source oil on the dirty side and send it on the clean side? The Takegawa claims 30% more flow, but what is the actual flow rate? I am keeping my Grom primarily stock but would like a true filter rather than the screen.
When you get the cover you will see the oil passage ways within the Filter Pocket. Unfortunately, we don't know of anyone that has taken the time to plum an Oil Flow Gauge on their Grom to measure the Stock Flow rate.
Thanks for the info on the oil routing. I wouldn't expect anyone to plumb a gauge onto a bike, but it wouldn't be difficult to do a bench test of the two pumps.
A bench test would probably take more time and work and money then just plumming a Gauge on the bike........ to figure out all the proper fittings for each pump and plumbing and having a motor spinning at 6000 RPM....etc.. Not quite as easy as you may think.
@@saleshardracing1561 We'll have to agree to disagree on that, it wouldn't be hard to set up at all if you applied a small amount of math. If I ever decide to change my pump, I'll send you the numbers. Cheers.

thank you
where can u get that flywheel clutch tool? 🤔
Your local Honda Dealer, or AMAZON or eBay.
Wouldn't you want to feed the hot oil into the far side of the cooler? Once it cools its going to be thicker so having a shorter hose would rob less oil pressure from your engine. Is there a measurable change between the two?
The temps only drop about 20-30^ so the viscosity different is negligible.
Hi what oil do you use with this kitaco clutch cover ?
Honda GN4 during break in. Then Mobil 1 4T after break-in.
sales @hardracing is that oil 10w 40 ? Would it still be ok to run on the Honda oil 10w 30 ? Thanks
