Wrong. It is being taught nationally to enter and equalize the shooter as soon as possible. No waiting for back up, no team meetings, enter and neutralize. A little research and you will see this.
I still think the AI is a bit ridiculously good with their aim and reaction times, but the game has come a LONG way. Very happy with the current product.

@@martinsleight321 Well light armor + Gas mask and a lot tear gas is one hell of a way to clean levels. With light armor you can get 6 tear gas nades + 4 in launcher. So 50 nades if everyone in the team has them. That is with also 4 mags on primary and 2 for sidearm. You could also take peppergun and go with full non lethal, or you can take pretty much any other weapon and have very high area control on top of it. With tear gas you dont really need heavy armor as enemies dont shoot back unless they have gasmasks too. Coupled with pepperguns they also usually surrender fast.

The ONLY reason this would get any kind of "criticism" is because those people realize these events are no longer a rare occurrence, and would suddenly have to come to grips with that. Instead, it's just easier to hate on a video game for bringing to light some of those topics.

The darkness of each level has almost nothing to do with if people care about it being in the game or not, people watch crime shows about kidnapping, rapes, trafficking and terrorism all the time and don't seem to give a shit because those are not in the news every week/month and media has been turning them into drama content for decades.

As a first responder this has always been one of my nightmares. I have prayed everyday that we will never have to respond to one of these, I already have had to see so much folks die in my career, but all of those were vehicle accidents, fires, search operations, never something like a shooting. Games like RoN that have mastered environmental story telling in regard to relevant topics are fantastic and need to be pushed to the top of the charts. A highly under-rated comment. It's easier to close our eyes to the horrors of the world than it is to accept the idea that mankind is capable of unbelievable cruelty and evil.

i feel like the lack of playable role as a shooter, zero glamourization of the shooters and the distressing reality of the scenario doesnt warrent this much controversy. I think people tend to forget that games about ww2 would have had the same reaction if they came out during world war 2, but the reception to those games now is casual. Same with the cold war, vietnam, iraq and afghanistan etc. There is no good time or right time to cover the subjects in this format, its just a harsh reality of modern society. The real issue is the fact the problem of mass shootings hasnt been solved in 30+ years, not games referencing it.
Most of the worlds countries have solved the shooting problem, its only the USA and their ass-backwards, asinine, idiotic mentality to guns that remain.
I think the problem is that people see this game more like a PVE version of Rainbow Six Siege when in reality it's more like a simulator. The game doesn't make light of these situations and that's the point, which I agree that people are blowing this out of proportion. If this made them uncomfortable then it means the devs did the job at displaying the grim reality.
if anything would this be pretty good thinking of where is a smart spot to hide or escape in a dangerous situation like this too, it kind of gives the average person a good idea of what's smart and not smart to do, like if hiding or running is smart in that area or the fact that the SWAT will shoot you if you act like a idiot or will have a harder time if you don't calm down. if anything this is far more educational than a lot of the "shooting survival practice" these teachers are doing.
imagine criticizing a piece of art for depicting reality instead of criticizing the politicians and government officials who continue to let this be a reality

This map actually has a bit of a dark Easter Egg to it, with a hint of foreshadowing - "Elephant" is a 2003 film by Gus Van Sant about a pair of school shooters at an alternative high school in the PNW, which was heavily based on the 1999 Columbine massacre.
After seeing vids like this, I feel much more comfortable with this map being included. It's very consistent with actual events and doesn't glorify the whole thing

Cop here. I’m a rookie still but just went through a few days of active shooter training at a high school. Rad video! Yeah, people will always complain about whatever hot button topic they can to generate clout, but I was pleased with this level. The insane AI can be fixed with an easy mod, but compared to early access the whole game has so much more life and depth to it now. This is a pretty good depiction of clearing a situation like this, as far as the game would allow. The map’s deceptive if you played early access, because it’s listed as a barricaded suspect instead of active shooter/bomb threat like it would have been. I liked the surprise when I found the first bomb. 🙃 The modern thinking, especially post-Uvalde, is to move fast. The “Stop the Killing. Stop the Dying.” posters you see in the station refer to a common training principle in active shooter events that prioritizes response. You MUST neutralize the threat first so resources can be diverted to saving the wounded. I was taught that the average time for LE to contact the shooter in these situations is 3-4 minutes from arrival. You get in and look for stimulus (screaming, blood, gunfire) and you head directly towards that. You have to violate normal building search principles and pass doors, pass wounded or dead civilians so you can stop a threat. Then you tend to those things. Good job showing some of the chaos of a situation like that. Realistically we wouldn’t be detaining civilians, just asking them if they’ve seen/heard anything and telling them to shelter where they are. The game limits you of course, it would be cool if they gave you some clues to where they were at besides the pointing animation.
This game is respectful about what is happening out there in the real world. People who criticize these situations are the ones who don't want to bring it up to the light. Gaming has all kinds of genres, and I support the creators who make games like these. There are many horror/gore games that have situations that could've happened in the real world.
I’m glad they added this in. They wanted to stay true to what swat units experience. Though it’s a touchy topic, it’s very fitting for the game. The past 1-2 years have definitely further supported the decision with such horrific events.

It might seem weird but it would probably benefit law enforcement that regularly work together doing this type of work to periodically play these types of games as a way to work on teamwork and quick problem solving. obviously its not the same, but it would definitely help in terms of communication and teamwork in times of stress.
They do this already with simulators, some even have VR. I’ve done a lot of different scenarios on one including active shooter response. I was also an actor for a few tactical teams and they used an old high school for their training with simunition rounds.
That phonecall.. fuck. The dev team has immense respect for the subject matter and isn't pulling any punches when it comes to conveying the themes of their game. Made my stomach turn, but I say that with respect and commendation. I hope this real world issue cones to a head sometime because the metrics are deeply heartbreaking.
I kinda see what the critisism is about but i also don't, this just shows the horrors of these kinds of rare events, and it shows why there should be something done about them. If we are just going to cry, and dont do anything about these kinds of events, they are just going to keep happening, we need to take action and take it now.
The thing about Ready or Not to me is how it doesnt try to act like its better than any other project just because it has real or scary subject matters. They just do what they do and they make no big deal about it and acknowledge when people criticize them, even if the criticism is uncalled for. I also love how you guys set up your outfits, really gives the impression that there was simply no time to change clothes at all and they Literally just up and arrived asap. Great stuff ^^

Elephant it's also a 1989 movie about "The Troubles" in England, and it's 36-38 minutes of only omicides. The two movies are correlated: the minimalism, the cold blood violence, but most importantly the title, that comes from Bernard MacLaverty talking about "The Troubles" as "the elephant in our living room", an elephant that everyone see but that no one want to talk about.

My biggest critique of this is how the civilians are handled. Police wouldnt cuff them in a random room and move on, imagine if the suspect managed to slip past the officers and find a bunch of bound students just sitting there. I think it would be cool if there was a system where they would either run for the exit if it was close enough or the officers could tell them to "hide" and they would shelter in place, but not cuffed.
Apparently you can tell civilians to run to exits, but when ive tried it can only tell them to move to where im at and one other thing i cant remember, but running to the exit is an option but its grayed out for me and i couldnt use it
They actually can depends and varies department to department. SWAT operates much more mission oriented, and yes, sometimes depending on the threat level they can hold civilians, but usually they tell them where the collection point is where they will be questioned and asked to issue a statement
@@HighBlueyit depends on the scenario, when it’s a lot of civilians and there is an active threat, they may tell people to get out. When the threat is more hidden and it’s a manageable amount of civilians they cuff them

There are books, songs, tv shows, and movies that all explain and depict a very real and terrifying scenario involving school shootings, often based on real events. Why cant video games? I dont understand how this could be controversial. You hear about these situations but to SEE them is something different and it has a different impact on people. Not only are these depictions good they are necessary.
Hmm. A lot of the guys we run with practice real CQB. There are some mistakes here, but for the most part I felt like a lot of the engagements we were in, we ended up having some decent tactics. The library would be an exception as we got stuck on the door.
I can understand why they chose a college campus but I can already see modders doing either high school or elementary school maps later on simply because they can.
TBF they're basically running and gunning, I believe a real SWAT team would do much better and this would be more akin to a "local yokel" police response. They're not securing loose weapons, not covering entry points while standing around talking, not wedging doors, are sending civs running to the exit, are solo clearing rooms that will obviously need more than one person, are 1v1'ing shooters, etc. For comparison checkout some players with military/SWAT experience such as GLID Gaming and possibly OperatorDrewski.
Really puts Ted cruz comforting the sheriff crying about being too much of a pussy to stop the uvalde shooter into perspective huh, jobs not so easy when it's not harassing teenagers for weed and handing out parking violations
Really dope map. Void did a great job of balancing the reality of active shooter - where you can't save everyone - while pushing you to the threat and forcing a methodical clearance when you don't have the information to work with. Really well done.
Fun fact, the name of this mission, “elephant” is also the name of a 2003 movie about the Columbine massacre. The events of the mission share similarities to the massacre as well. Mainly the fact that there are multiple shooters rather than a lone in the mission as well as in Columbine which to my knowledge is something of a rarity in mass shootings. It was probably done for gameplay reasons but I still think it’s pretty interesting.
The AI needs a little bit of tweaking, at some points it is unrealistic how fast and accurate they can shoot you. Also they shoot through walls too much. Hopefully it will be improved in the next update
I love this game and the fact the Dev didn’t just drop it for the hate the level got. As much as people may not like it stuff like this happens almost all the time and just ignoring it ain’t going to make anything better.
I mean almost all the time is a stretch, he media tends to exaggerate the amount of true school shootings that actually happen. Not that is isn’t happening way too damn frequently nowadays.
I think having this in the game is a good thing as it can start a conversation about a real life issue. And since our generation does not read as much as older generations communicating difficult topics via games is defninitly the way to go

Not knowing anything, risking life, it’s so stressful to go through something like that wether your a student or a cop. Yes, but I have a feeling that this could be something of a learning opportunity, you know for learning what it would be like if you are the cop.
I feel the reason the map was so controversial was because people thought it was a childrens school. In promos you see someone rescuing a kid and a bloody classroom so people expected the shooting to be at a gradeschool or something.
@@filthycasual2567 It's probably also because it was easier on them to have a map full of adults instead of having 14-18 y/o running around that you also have to zip-tie.

It doesn't poke fun at the situation, but it captures the horror of it in a way that's haunting to those who have never experienced it. The only problem with these active shooter maps is that any modern department’s standard operating procedure WILL NOT have officers waiting on a SWAT team. The first arriving officers immediately make entry and head towards the sound of gunfire to engage the shooter.
Funny thing I witnessed the other day. In the discord they were talking about this map and how it has changed. There was one user who was genuinely mad that they changed to a college. They wanted it to be in an elementary school. Another user later said "when are they releasing the map where you are the shooter". Some people are sick
The reason this is controversial is because it hits on a topic people prefer to avoid versus doing anything about it. Easier to pretend it doesn't exist if you don't see what happens inside a shooter scenario.
The horrors of this world need to be highlighted in order for people to be informed, if you dont like this, then YOU need to work to make the world you hear about and see depicted in games like Ready or Not a better place instead of complaining about seeing it because it makes your feelings hurt, people need to see and experience things that hurt their feelings so they can work to fix the problem, thats the real way we improve as people and a community.

I love how people are complaining about this level for involving a sensitive topic/scenario, yet they seemed to get over Call of Duty's "No Russian" mission fairly quickly (despite you doing FAR more heinous acts in that level compared to here). It's even more ironic when you consider how "No Russian" was still included in the recent CoD remake, and was therefore recreated in more graphic detail. 🙄

I put all my team ballistic mask, and yes i died alot time, coz of that bomb location -_-, but able to locate one at the cafe table and one at lecture hall. i wanna praise the actors and actress doing this as well and dev for doing such realistic mission. I am glad this mission is up despite the criticism to raise the awareness that this kind of terror existed and i hope those who criticize it, shift it towards the politicians.
Personally I think this map was originally planned to be a high school, look at the OG teaser. They obviously realized that regardless of the stance of their fans or even their own personal beliefs, it would be bad to have a map with actual children on the map, not just the shooter, but as regular civilians too, esp with the ability to just roll in and drop everything that moves. So they went with a college since almost everyone at college is an adult, unless you got young Sheldon running around or something
That's true I didn't realize that. The main problem isn't about the highschool itself and how the game revolves around it, but the playerbase playing the game. You don't want a game where the people playing it could kill minors. That is why GTA V has no children in the game.
That’s intense. I think they handled the subject really well though, nothing in that mission glorified the situation or was overtly gory, and it didn’t pull punches.
Definitely neat to see a scenario that’s so different from other tactical callouts. The main goal here is you gotta press the threat and press it fast, prevent further casualties. Your own safety as an officer goes out the window. It’s totally contrary to how just about every other mission in this game is. IMO the players were still playing this too much like other missions, but it’s a great training opportunity
Outstanding job with the intro. I don't know what this says about me, but the only emotion it draws from me is anger. Anger that legal adults on college campuses are denied the right to carry a firearm for self defense.
@@klyesam4006 The police, the military, obviously need guns yes. But why do civilians need them in front of students and children in schools? How does that help? A person with a gun is 100% more likely to kill with that gun than a person without.

Same with the cold war, vietnam, iraq and afghanistan etc. There is no good time or right time to cover the subjects in this format, its just a harsh reality of modern society.
The modern thinking, especially post-Uvalde, is to move fast.
No shit a game is better out of early access. Unless you made hello neighbour
This game is respectful about what is happening out there in the real world. People who criticize these situations are the ones who don't want to bring it up to the light.

Article 15 was a highly planned attack by elite terrorist fighters involving gas and suicide bombers. Like the article 15 intro said, it wasn't just a random school shooting. I understand how seeing a simulated school shooting would hurt the victims of an actual one though. The sad reality is that situations like these won't ever stop being fresh until something is done about it.
I don't take any of the 12 year old comments of support with any weight if they don't at least acknowledge that this is a game using a tragic event to earn money. I love how people are complaining about this level for involving a sensitive topic/scenario, yet they seemed to get over Call of Duty's "No Russian" mission fairly quickly (despite you doing FAR more heinous acts in that level compared to here). My respect for SWAT has double when you realise they have a 2-3% death rate over 250 calls and when civilians try it they have 3 dead in 7 minutes
Tbh if Young Sheldon was in the map there'd be second objective to neutralize
Young Sheldon finally snapped…
Sheldon has had enough
That’s intense. I think they handled the subject really well though, nothing in that mission glorified the situation or was overtly gory, and it didn’t pull punches.
Definitely neat to see a scenario that’s so different from other tactical callouts. The main goal here is you gotta press the threat and press it fast, prevent further casualties. Your own safety as an officer goes out the window. It’s totally contrary to how just about every other mission in this game is. IMO the players were still playing this too much like other missions, but it’s a great training opportunity
Outstanding job with the intro.
