  • Hey guys!
    Back with a SLAP bass lesson. I know, so not me but I thought it would be fun either way. A simple yet effective technique employed by none other than the monstrous Victor Wooten which we can use to create some interest in our slap bass playing in general. I love how you keep your mistakes in, just like in some other of your videos. It's fantastic and it feels more like a 1 to 1 lesson. Also, what bridge do you have you your bass?

      Thanks man! I want this to be a hang and not a showcase. I learnt the most from just hanging out with cats and talking/playing. I have a leo quan badass bridge. Its a rare one, usually called the original badass bridge. Very different from the badass 2 and my bridge only has 3 screws.

    Very helpful, love how you showed your "weaknesses" that actually makes the lesson more helpful

    Ive never heard you play in that style before though I suspected you knew how. I play fretless and dont "thump" but I love me some Victor Wooten! But the problem is lots of kids learning this style tend to play in open E. Thanks again for the video Anthony. Never saw this one.

    U look more relaxed yourself teaching this. Your mouthful Jaco lessons cause headaches. More of this Anthony!

      Relax Jack hahaha! Well to be totally honest with you, I’ve been struggling with sleep for a long time now and now I’m finally sleeping right. Early nights/mornings are really affecting me a lot in many aspects so that’s pretty evident in this lesson. Shot it at 7:30am. That’s my usual bed time lol Anyway, thanks man. Imma try and do similar lessons more often

    Hey Anthony, I dig your videos A LOT
    Can I request something?
    I know that you, like me, love all kinds of music including Metal, I know you like Meshuggah and Dream Theater... I would love if you did some exercises/lessons based on this bands, because this bands are so tight!! I would love your type of lessons (see? plural, more than one :) ) on that subject
    Thanks in advance
    And greetings from Portugal

    Did you change the new strings? It sounds slightly different. Also I just saw your fingerboard is pretty clean. I believe you're a diligent musician and practice a lot, yet it seems like you cleaned up the fingerboard or just because the window light makes it look smooth and bright?

    • @AnthonyMuthurajah
      @AnthonyMuthurajah  6 років тому +1

      Lin H. They’re not new strings, they’re quite old. You reminded me to change them hahaha. I’m just using the tone knob on my bass a lot more than I would normally just for a slap sound. It’s probably just the lighting but I tend to clean my bass a lot in general. I use a string polish time to time and that’s about it.

    Thanks for sharing these very useful tips and techniques. As always your videos are greatly appreciated.
    I was the bass player for Copious (Neo-Fusion) released in 1986. The album is full of slap-bass grooves, licks and tricks.

    When Neo-Fusion was released Victor Wooten was still a young man of 21. Anthony, I wish I had access to this type of tuition 40 years ago. Thanks once again!

    I am a big fan of you but I don't like the way you rush your videos. You do more of playing than teaching and it ends up confusing me.
