@@100ThingsIDo Terry Lewis & Jimmy Jam are also very notable Mirage/ESQ users, and ya know I'd say Control has a very industrial sound if you think about it.
The mirage rules. I have 4 of them. They all sound different. There are a few ways to get rid of the sample input noise. The easiest is to simply do a SMS MIDI dump. I use older programs on a win XP or WIN7 machine. Sample Wrench or Sound Forge 4.5 (best version of Sound Forge before Sony bought it and bloated it). It's amazing how great the Mirage sounds with imported samples. Those filters kick ass. I do like the noise sometimes tho. In my opinion, Ensoniq's "Sweet Spot" was/is the EPS Classic. It's exactly between the Mirage and ASR-10, sound-wise. It has a huge selection of sample rates and bitrates that can really color samples. A few tricks - adjusting the voices lets you change the bitrate between 11, 12 or 13-bits. There is a hack that lets you do the loveliest Timestretching that surpasses the AKAI S950 & S1000 algorithms.
Indeed the EPS is one of my most fave samplers ever. It sounds amazing but can also reimagine the sound for you at very low sample rates! Such a shame if they break they are so hard to repair :D
Super Cool vid thanks, I’m having bother with mine. I’m playing keys and sometimes a note drops out ( nothing plays) but if I keep playing it comes back any idea what can cause this ?? Cheers
Hi there, it really could be amost anything but if I was to guess its most likley a envelope or filter chip thats gone bad. Best to get a tech to take a look for you :D
Great! Sometimes I use my old EPSm set at minimum quality to mangle sounds. And then I resample them in the box for better convenience, in order to have them at my fingertips in the sampler of my DAW.
@@100ThingsIDo Personnaly I kept the floppy drive on my EPSm, my old samples from the 90s are on floppies, but I bought a "fake" scsi drive with an SD card in it (from Samplerzone). Although on a Mirage, to my knowledge I don't think scsi is possible. Regarding the gotek it can be complicated. I put one in my Yamaha SU700 without any issue but in my S1100 I've never figured how to make it works...
Love watching you smile as you play around with it. 🙂 Many (sarcastic) thanks to the arse at West L.A. Music who disappeared and left me sitting for an hour (why?) waiting for him to bring me the OS disk for the newly released Ensoniq Mirage so I could try before I buy! And I had the money, all ready to buy! I finally got irritated, left, and bought a JX-8P instead. I never did find anyone in all of L.A. to let me try one out! (In retrospect, I should have just bought it anyway, but I wanted to hear it!)
I had a JX-8P, it could do lush string pads like nothing else but a heavy beast and a pain to program without the programmer! :D Yeh.. normally I walk out without pruchasing if I can't get service. There is nothing worse than when you are there to purchase and get ignored!
so cool to see ensoniq products... I used to do music with one of my friend, he had a e-mu emax II, a roland td7, a atari with cubase, a 16 ch mixing console and my dream to acompany him was to buy a ensoniq eps16+... that never happened unfortunately because our life changed a lot but that was one of the best days of my life, doing music with my friend Eric ! that was 30 years ago !
The Atari's were awesome.. I got started with sequencing on the ST + Notator + an MT32! It sounded just like the Pro's to my teenage ears :D Time indeed goes by so fast! Hard to believe!
Thanks for the reply ! You kept your passion throughout all those years and you kept those memory alive that is awesome to see and hear all of these vintage gear ! If you ever encounter an e-max II or a eps16+, grab them out would be awesome to see and hear those again I am pretty sure you will like !
@@Aleziss I actually have an E-MAX II hiding away.. I did a clip a while back it must be time to do another. I also have a EPS Original I keep meaning to do more with. Fortunatly I saw the increase in Sampler apreciation coming and got in early before the prices went sky high! :D
I was watching Skinny Puppy's 1987 show on UA-cam and they were using both ESQ-1 and Mirage on stage. Gotta love the crunchy sound of these machines!
Ahhh Skinny Puppy! Thats a name I have not heard in a long time.... *Looks off whistfully into space* :D

“This is a blank formatted diskette”
I guess you at least even got a free sample on a blank disk :D
good stuff mate :) wish it was longer !
It was .. I went on for about an hour but its hard to get people to watch for more than 2 mins on UA-cam :D haha!
Looks like you were really having fun here! This video reminded me of the importance of pushing devices to their limits to find unexpected behaviours.

Those old Rave sounds are still the bomb :D

Creative sampling... Pure AZ, and not the same AS a library.... Love it.
