natural disaster almost made me cry with that end section. it sounds so oddly nostalgic and pretty (it also reminds me of concealing fate off of "One"). also, fun fact, Jay (Drummer of Tesseract) said earlier today in his stream that the end section of natural disaster (at least I’m pretty sure it was natural disaster) is a demo Acle made dating all the way back to altered state. jay said he fell in love with it but they couldn't find a song to throw it in until now. thought that was kinda interesting.
Yes!! The ending of Natrutal Selection is one of the best parts of the whole album, I find myself playing it over and over again because I don't want it to end. Gets me everytime man
@@MRFLAPPYTREE think I’d only heard about Periphery and TesseracT on reddit or something, but that was it. Sooo happy I listened to them as well as ST!
Next stop for you is Jinjer, The Contortionist, and Thank You Scientist. That's the Ukrainian take on prog metal, the Prog band that got less metal with each album, and the prog rock/jazz fusion band.
Tesseract has once again taken the throne in the metal/prog metal arena with this monstrous album. It’s by far the best metal album to have come out since Altered State. Sleep Token’s TMBTE raised the bar for metal, but Tesseract raised it even further. They are the Kings. This album is 10/10 and I don’t say that lightly.
i feel like dan’s performance is so good we forget that part of why they work so well is because the song writing and harmonies are ALSO on another level. TesseracT has always been great atmospherically and rhythmically but now the melodies and harmonies are insane too
This is just incredible isn't it... Dan took this to new heights. Whoever Dan's therapist is, credit them, this level of self-discovery and introspection birthed the most raw and beautiful material put to ear this year. ❤
Man, reaction videos can be so cool because they'll help you appreciate something even more. I've listened to Natural Disaster a few times already and liked it of course, but seeing your reaction to that final section made me realize how epic and grand it sounded.
love the groove on Burden. Amo's fucking killed it on that one, he had the most presence to me. that whole song really reminded me of Polaris. Really fucking Groovy bass as well as beautiful melodies.
With this record Tesseract achieve another high level to his legacy music 🎵, this put them on the orbit of one of the greatest Prog metal 🤘 of all time in my opinion , out of this world 🌍 album 💿
Completely fell asleep and didn’t make it to the stream but I loved the album a lot more than I expected actually. It’s been on repeat nonstop since last night.
I try not to allow fanboying over a group dicatate their place in my AOTY list, but Invent Animate and Tesseract will most likely be in my top three along with Dodheimsgard’s album.
I agree with the chatter towards the end who said Echoes will grow on you. I am surprised it was your least fav off first listen because it was one of my favorites right away
Tesseract has been one of my favorite bands for the last 10 years, and as much as I love them, Sonder didn't get me as much as Altered State, Polaris or One. I went into this album expecting a 7, perhaps an 8 out of 10. They completely blew away my expectations like you said. I've listened to the album a few times at this point, and I have to say that this album is an absolute masterpiece. I also think that it might beat out Altered State for me (which has been my favorite album of all time since it released). They're truly great musicians, and I really hope that they've got many years left in em'. Great review as always, Drew, It's always fun to watch someone be passionate and care about the music that they're reacting to. I guess you can't help yourself when it's Tesseract hahah 😁
i like sonder from time to time but like you AS is just such a well crafted album, Amos and other members have mentioned in interviews and streams that the way they did sonder was a bit rushed and didnt really take enough time to properly craft an masterpiece, and now we have this masterpiece of an album and the wait was so freaking worth i cant get enough of it
descubrí a tesseract gracias a ti, es una banda increíble, de otro mundo. muchas gracias por todo, por seguir compartiendo la música y con tanta calidad a la hora de compartirla. no hay palabras de agradecimiento que sirvan, muchas gracias ❤
My expectations for this project was also so very high and I have been blown away right from the first listen!! TesseracT has created a masterpiece. I would agree that Dan's vocals are on another plane. It's like he is trying less on the softer vocals which somehow gives his voice room to soar!! I really liked Echoes, the soft part from 2:30 - 3:30 almost has this 70s vibe (I'm an old guy and loved the groove) and then explodes with a scream 🤘 I look forward to spending lots of time with these songs and I'm seeing them live in 4 weeks, 3 days. Cheers🤘
The album has such a great sound. The drums are insane and that snare is amazing. Guitar effects are amazing as well and the bass tone really fills everything out. Dan is 🔥
Tesseract have really mastered how to finish a song. The ending to Natural Disaster, Legion and War of Being for example. I mean they have always been expert SONG writers but they have mastered their art now I feel. Their strongest album since Altered State in my opinion 🤘
Dan and the boys went in so hard on this album. What a way to reinvigorate themselves while still sticking to their core sound. Absolutely astounding album front to back.
Really digging how this album has some Ashe-like layering on some of the softer vocals. Have you heard Ashe's other band Voices From the Fuselage? Highly recommend checking them out if you haven't.
There is no bad song, there is no "just good song" on the album. Every single song is solid and amazing, and yet some songs go even beyond that and are simply masterpieces. Legion and Sacrifice are 10s to me.
After a few listens Natural Disaster - 10 (the most “one” sounding song here) Echoes - 8.5 (it’s a grower but still good) The Grey - 9 (better while listening to the album as a whole Legion - 9.5 (dans best performance ever) Tender - 10 (beautiful and extra points for making me teary eyed) War of Being - 10 (Bowwwww wowwwww) Sirens - 7.5 ( meh for me) Burden 9.5 (groovy as fuck) Sacrifice 9.5 (amazing album closer) Easy album of the year for me. he didnt hold back on it, those opera like highs and the dirty gravely harsh vocals are just amazing, and got to say Jay needs more appreciation the dude is an absolute drum master
Shit, I've been listening to prog for YEARS, and I still can't wrap my head around Sacrifice. There's so many sections where I'm like, "wtf am I supposed to nod along to" lol. It's good stuff for sure
Dude inhad the same feeling after the grey came out i thought maybe war of being was the hogh point than Legion hit and i was like HOLY FUCK im ready for this album and it sent me through the atmosphere.
I have been a massive TesseracT fan ever since concealing fate. They have been and still are my all time favorite band. Every release just got better and better as time went on… until this album. I want people to truly level with me on a heart to heart level. Would this album be even half comparable to their past discography if Daniel wasn’t singing? The instrumentals other than for Natural Disaster and War of Being put me to sleep for the most part. It sounds like they went the super accessible and mainstream route, and if we were actually being honest with ourselves, silencing the inner fanboy that just says everything on this album is 10/10, was this really that good? I am absolutely up for friendly discussion and debate on this, and I will respect your opinions, as long as you respect mine.
I did notice that Echoes did sound quite poppy overall, but I'd say all of the songs still do retain the Tesseract essence. Also generally, I don't think a simpler instrumetal has to be a bad thing depending on song structure and theme. Prime example is the chorus-like segments in songs ike Sacrifice when Dan's vocals take the spotlight and the instruments just back off and play melodic and simpler stuff. In conclusion, I don't think their sound changed for the worse, even excluding the vocals.
@@ondrasimunek2097 That’s fair. I guess it boils down to what you listen to TesseracT for. I listen to them for genius songwriting and complex musical ideas, along with signature Tess groove that (despite contrary belief) is still mostly unmatched today. I guess it’s unfair to compare this album to their other work, because all of their albums innovated in a huge and creative way. This album isn’t bad at all, and the instrumentals definitely support Dan perfectly, but that’s not why I listen to TesseracT. If the album was an instrumental, it would be mid compared to other releases this year, which cannot be said about any of their other work. I believe the album focused a little too much on the vocals for my liking, as there were so little moments without Dan. (Even though this is definitley Dan’s best work)
@@collinsnow2203 I do agree that I would prefer a more instrumental focus. Having a track or two like Legion is fine, where Dan is basically the sole focus of the track (not to discredit the instrumental too much, but that's how it is), but I would kinda like to have an opposite to that too. Either a completely instrumental or very largely instrumental track maybe with vocals as a background layer. Personally I really enjoyed the heavy ambient moments in songs like Tender, but you're always still reminded of the Tess groove in every track.
if u think the bands sound is “super accessible and mainstream” then ur wrong. most ppl will never listen to rock, much less technical/progressive metal like this even if it is much simpler than their previous works.

Must be just me I guess. But who am I to criticize these beautiful human beings and their work of art)
I completely agree, it’s not bad at all. Just… missed the mark with me. It wasn’t very prog, to be honest it wasn’t very metal, and the only huge payoff songs for me were the ones we already heard (natural disaster and war of being). I never thought I’d say Haken would top the TesseracT album release this year, but here we are.
I wouldn’t compare them to “The Contortionist” as far as sound goes. Two different bands. But I feel like the amount of effort put into their own albums is far superior to anybody in their respective genres.
Better than Sonder but it just failed at captivating me right away like One, Altered State, and Polaris did. Their best album from a technicality standpoint but just not as enjoyable as previous work. Best part was Dan hitting his PEAK, lord.
Hi Drew! As a fan of Tess, i feel to say this album was beautiful but different. Really miss a lot of elements that’s make Tess be Tess if u know what i mean, one example: missing parts of Amos riff’s. In every album Amos give us some kinda magic. For this album the EQ on bass was ok but not at the front as we were used to. Quickly moments yes, but not too much, I really miss that. Otherwise this album feels in space matching the Tesseract entire discography. 8+/10
Ashe this, Ashe that. Look, I get it if your favorite album is Altered State, but it's been more than 10 years. To imply that Dan is not as good a singer as Ashe is really appalling, specially when by the time One was released Dan was already a top notch singer, not just from his work with Tesseract but also with Skyharbor and SPECIALLY First Signs of Frost (underrated project).
Dont want to take away from the phenomenonal effort TesseracT put forth in this release but heres a hot take....its a 7.5/10, purely because of Dan's vocals. Drums and guitar work sit in the middle of what TesseracT puts out. Altered State was their strongest release. War of Being is not bad by any means but it has the same pulse with relatively similar tempos throughout. Nothing incredibly polyrhythmic is happening and the guitar tones are identical to Polaris and Sonder, little innovation there. My humble and unpopular opinion.
Are you even a metal fan? Dude, his vocals are incredible this album. This is up there in the "Album of the Year" discussion. That's the 1st and only comment I've seen or heard saying the vocals let the band down. 😂😂

The vocals let this band down in my opinion
You must be new here. Hey man!
I disagree a lot
It’s far better than non-stop screaming the same note like some bands do
Opinion is opinion but I still think you’re wrong
Are you even a metal fan? Dude, his vocals are incredible this album. This is up there in the "Album of the Year" discussion. That's the 1st and only comment I've seen or heard saying the vocals let the band down. 😂😂
