I agree with you regarding hotels, Barcelona is the only city i know of that is prioritising it's own people when it comes to accomodation, a well known platform will be banned from operating there in the future.
NYC banned airbnb. There are still clandestine ones on offer but far fewer than it used to be. It sounds like residents support the idea. Either way it’s no silver-bullet for housing crises. Researchers from Portugal found only 9% higher prices that could be accounted to short term rentals. Most importantly I think is the tax revenue and economic activity staying in the area
