Come next year South Korea and neighboring Japan mark 60 years of diplomatic relations and ahead of this occasion we revisit the recent advances in bilateral ties and the tasks ahead.
For this I have Professor Choi Hyun Jin from Kyung Hee University here in the studio.

I also have Professor Lee Hee-eun at Handong International Law School live on the line.
Professor Lee it's good to have you with us.
1) Professor Choi, for the sake of some background information on bilateral ties, let's begin with the history of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Japan including some of the major challenges to closer collaboration prior to efforts by President Yoon Suk Yeol.
2) Now Professor Lee, there was a rather dramatic turn of events last year when the Yoon administration took the first step to bridging the gap over differences.
Again, do remind us a bit about the key advancements in ties in recent times.
3) Meanwhile Professor Choi, despite the latest improvements in diplomatic ties, some believe bilateral relations remain on rocky ground given their differences over history.
What are your thoughts?
4) And Professor Lee, while history hinders bilateral ties, other pundits believe broader regional security concerns will keep South Korea and Japan close.
How do you respond?
5) Moving beyond history and security, Professor Choi, there are hopes for greater gains on the economic front amid closer cooperation between South Korea and Japan.
What more can you share with us?
6) Professor Lee, come next year, the two countries celebrate their 60th anniversary and ahead of this commemoration, some are suggesting fresh efforts to completely reset the tone of bilateral ties to ensure that history does not reverse current improvements in relations.
