  • Italy has three main active volcanoes: Etna in Sicily, Vesuvius near Naples and Stromboli. Stromboli is one of the most active volcanoes on the planet famous for its regular eruption. Stromboli, a small island north of Sicily, is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. The eruption has been going on for at least 2000 years. Its regular explosions of glowing lava goes from several craters. Small eruptions happens typically every 20-30 mins. Lava flow occurred on the Sciara del Fuoco (Stream of fire). In the evening on 17th of June 2021 the active volcano erupted and lava over-spilled on the slope. Watch this video with spectacular Stromboli volcano eruption. A few kilometers to the northeast lies Strombolicchio, the volcanic remnant of the original volcano.
    Easiest way to get to Stromboli from Sicily is taking ferry from port of Milazzo.
