A quick demonstration of how to spin core spun yarn. While we're self isolating it's a great time to try new things. Core yarn purchased from: colourmart.com
Great video to watch! I have been practicing this method and love it. You have to tell me how you stick your fibre by your orafice. I let go of my fibre and of course it unwinds.
Love watching your videos. I have a question though. What are you sticking your fiber to when you stop spinning? When you stop, you take and stick your fiber to something right below the orifice. Is there something you have put there? I have the same wheel and was just curious. Seems like a pretty handy hack. Do you have it on your other size head also.
I guess I don't mention it in this video. I stuck a patch of velcro on the plying head to secure my fiber when I pause. With my regular head I just wrap it around my orifice hook with a half hitch. If it gets stuck, I just pull the orifice hook out and free the yarn. I'm so glad you're enjoying my videos!
Really helpful video thank you for sharing. I am interested in the spinning wheel you are working with but couldnt quite hear the name of it in the vid. Would you recommend it ?
That's my Lendrum double treadle named Lars. I purchased the complete package which come with the regular flyer, the fast flyer and the bulky head for art yarns and larger spins. I love my Lendrum and highly recommend it. It's castle style so it's excellent for space and it's very easy to use.
@@bffiberarts Many thanks for your reply . I like the compactness of this wheel and it looks beautifully made. I am enjoying watching how you spin and as someone will no skills am finding your style refreshing. Many Thanks
Aww thank you. I get my core yarns here colourmart.com/yarns/view/3-21NM_4ply_wt_mohair_HALF_PRICE_KONE_SALE!_s_yarn/0/Mohair/0/in_stock.*.asc_hue.*.show_all Though it looks like they don't have much stock right now. They're a great site but because they get leftovers from manufacturers their stock is always changing. Check back often and take advantage of their cone sales when they come up.
@@joyellen they don't have exactly what I purchased anymore but this one would likely work fairly well. It'll be a little slippery because of the silk but the mohair and alpaca should offset that. colourmart.com/yarns/view/heavy_lace_wt_alpaca_-_mohair_silk_mokka_s_yarn/0/Mohair/0/in_stock.*.asc_hue.*.show_all
Such an informative video! Thank you for making and posting it!
That's one from my early days! Glad you found it helpful.
So cool, love the fluff and the colors! Thank you!
I'm delighted you liked it! Thanks.

There's a tab of velcro stuck on there. I never think to show it but it's brilliant for holding the end of the fiber.
@@bffiberarts absolutely!

Where do you purchase the mohair core? You are quite a good teacher, by the way!

@@bffiberarts what size do you buy? This is my first try, went on site and there are too many options.
@@joyellen I usually go for fingering weight. Let me check the site and see what looks good. Brb

@@bffiberarts Hi, I guess my confusion lies in that I'm not sure about the sizing with the numbers like 2/4? and thickness or size?
