So true about not being afraid of frogging when something isn’t bringing you joy. I was at the neck section of a bottom up sweater and finally made the decision to frog because I found myself forcing myself to knit it and that shouldn’t be because I enjoy the process of knitting too much . So that yarn will someday become something else.

    • @NeedlesattheReadyPodcast
      @NeedlesattheReadyPodcast  4 роки тому +1

Hi Sharon - That is a lot of work you put in to the sweater, but if you weren't going to enjoy it no sense in continuing. Hopefully you will turn they yarn into something you love.

Ok, here’s my helpful hint, when I’m knitting a sweater and I am just on the body and the sleeves are on hold, when I’m ready to start a new skein, I put the body on hold, and do the sleeves, then I go back to the body. I do this because I hate having to turn the whole thing to do the sleeves, and I hate knitting sleeves!

I love working with sock blanks. It is always a surprise how they knit up. I have knit with several. I even did one from Kim of Gingersnap. She had a Star Wars themed one. I knit a sock head hat for my son out of that one.
Kim is amazingly generous. She has sent things to us as give aways as well. She makes great project bags.
Ray your Pure Joy looks fabulous. Those colours are perfect together.
Kevin thanks for the shout out! We love watching you two as well. You are one of our regulars to watch now.

Ray, speaking of Justin, I think you need to talk him into having a special clip on how he knits his cables. Apparently, he loves doing them and he does it totally without using a cable needle!!, I wish I could learn how to do it like he does. As always, a very fun, informative, and engaging show that inevitably makes me want to buy more yarn . Thanks again.

Another good video gentlemen. I liked both your sweaters and their colours. Good choices. Whenever my little Yorkie gets fretful I put a couple of drops of Bach's Flower Remedy ' rescue
remedy in her dish of water and it stops her getting stressed. It also works on my sometime neurotic Siamese cat. As they do not read the the label they do not know the effect it is supposed to have on them it works naturally. There are no drugs in them and I have used them on horses, goats, ducks, dogs and cats and yes even on my children. I do hope Tarquin feels better soon.

What a great way to start my Monday morning! I thought you wouldn’t have a podcast this week since I hadn’t seen it, so it was nice to be able to sit with my coffee and knitting and you both. :) And thank you so much for sharing my socks! It’s getting cooler where I am (Alberta, Canada), thus becoming perfect weather for hygge. Kevin, you have inspired me to start my simple hug cardigan! I love yours! I plan on doing worsted weight with no mohair so it was nice to see a version of it without mohair. And Ray, good job frogging your Stephen West. You’re right, if it’s not enjoyable, move onto something else! That’s the beauty of yarn - it can always be something else. Oh, and I hope all is good with Tarquin!

My pick up stitches on section 3 started out pretty hole-y, but the yarn does tend to relax a bit to fill in the space. It seems to be the weight of the other sections pulling on the yarn on the needles, not your knitting. Both of you do such great work on the knitting and inspiring people to enjoy life as it is.

Lol, I hear you about the Brooklyn Tweed sale! As I watched everything I wanted sell out in seconds, I finally managed to get eight different skeins of Peerie into my cart. By the time I tries to check out five of them were cart-jacked. The nicest ones of course. So I hit my paypal for the last three. Then my phone rang. A second later I returned to finish the transaction and boom, those three had been cart- jacked too! Yes, I was bummed! I consoled myself by ordering a sweater quantity of Briggs and Little yarn from Maritime Family Farm, very reasonably priced and helping out a small business. Not my time yet for Brooklyn Tweed I guess!

Hi guys, as usual you have made my weekend. Hubby was making sawdust in the garage and I was enjoying you both and laughing. Kevin, when you told Tarquin he was handsome, my Stanley perked up because I tell him he is handsome as well. Ray, your Pure Joy is going to be great with those colors. I never feel bad about frogging something I'm not enjoying. See you in a fortnight.

It is potato chip knitting lol. I love dpn's for socks. I do toe up and increase to 52 stitches. Not enough stitches to comfortably get around 9-inch circulars lol. Oh my gosh, I love your whisper into the mic lol. When I get into the body of the sweater and it is time to add a new skein I always go and do the sleeves. Once the sleeves are finished I know I can knit the body for as long as I want. I don't have to worry about having enough yarn left for the sleeves. I like very long, almost fingertip length sweaters.

Ray, you and I are both knitting the same sweater - I am about at the same stage as you as well, how strange! Mine is.a blue/green colour and I think I prefer yours - want to swap??? Next challenge - sleeves - scary! Saw you on Bingo the other day with Fibre Hustle, it was such good fun wasn't it? All the best Emma.

You really need to read the San Andreas Shifter series by G. L. Carrier. It's M/M, found family, and HEA, but snarky, clever, and a quick, fun, feel-good read.

Ray -I'm glad you aren't knocking yourself over the Barndom. You are a good knitter, and if the time isn't right for that project, well, IT IS WHAT IT IS. What's with you and pants? CactusPants, PricklePants, CrankyPants? What's next, Noisy Tummy Pants? BTW: I've just pulled Pizza Rolls out of the oven right now. Want Some?
Kevin - "Which has made for a much happier household." Perfect nonchalant delivery. Umm, have you ever thought about getting a Nemesis? It doesn't seem fair that Ray has one and you don't. And a Pants Name too, if there are any left.
Both of you - great work on everything, and you're both great with color choices. Tell Tarquin I'm holding a good thought for him.

Kevin, when I knit socks magic loop I slice a wine cork into about 1/2 “ slices and use a skewer to poke a hole in the middle. I then put a cork stopper on each needle end. Voila! No more lost stitches!

Do you have skunks in the area? We have terriers and our male can smell them, even when we can't. Since the skunk is active at night our male can sense him, wakes up frantically and wants outside desperately. Really had us puzzled for awhile.

Hey, love the vlog. I’m knitting up some socks with a Hawthorne Sock Reel, which is similar to the sock blank. I notice the fabric puckers from the ‘memory’ in the yarn. I think it will go away when blocking, but curious if you have a similar result.

So when you block your sweater Kevin and then wear it and wash it again do you have to block it each time and is this because of the kind of yarn.

    • @NeedlesattheReadyPodcast

No, just the one time “blocking” for shaping. We will wash and just lay flat to dry after 😊

Wait ... one last thing! I'm knitting up a sock and I just figured out how to get rid of that hole that is between the heel (FLKH) and the body of the sock. I picked up a stitch from below, twisted that stitch and then knit ti together with the next stitch...hole is gone!
