- The 2022 version of the 'A Pair of Kirtons' 600km (380miles) audax from Poynton (Greater Manchester) to Hull, Boston, Wem and everywhere in between. I was carrying a horse-induced injury so didn't know if I'd even make the start line, so I was properly chuffed to be back in time for afternoon tea and cake (second/third finisher apparently).
Brings back (mostly) great memories, I rode this last year in the lead up to LEL. The dark clouds and rainbows around Boston were spectacular, shame we had to ride through the torrential rain though. I set off from the overnight just after 2am and went through a really bad patch until I was able to refuel properly in Uttoxeter
Literal LOLs were had from the final monologue - really appealed to the inner 6 year-old, that did 😂.
Congrats on completing and doing so well. All the best with LEL!
Never heard such sensual Gooch talk 😂
The thing I most enjoyed about the Pair of Kirtons was having a curry at the end of the ride.
By the way, does Mike Wigley still provide a mid-way sleep stop in his horse box?
He didn’t on this year’s edition… but there was a lovely village hall complete with LEL air beds!!
Great video - what bike are you using?
Mason Resolution.
New shorts on a 600? Just like wearing new trainers on the Fellsman! Time to start resting up before the big one. It will be here before you know it.
Second time wearing them… first time was a 400 and they gave a bit of grief, but I’ve had that before and found shorts tend to bed in after a while - hence my reason for giving them a good outing at the weekend. They’re now on eBay and I’ve sourced a pair that are identical to my go-to favourites. I’ll break those in over the next month on a few steadier tapering rides. 🤞
fancy bridge is my local bridge
I have no idea where it is… because 600km is a lot to take in. Can you enlighten me?
@@SaddleSore the bridge you have used in your thumbnail is Horkstow Bridge, a short off-road section. Tbh I always dismounted as per sign - the gaps between some of the planks are bigger than a tyre width.
