So basically, that is not a 100% Wi-Fi 7 router, it has some capabilities of the new technology, like MLO and 4K-QAM, but not the 6Ghz band, which is the main future for me.
And i thought that only Chinese brands, like ZTE, Huawei and Xiaomi are using this misleading labeling, as i have seen on AliExpress, but that is normal because in China the Wi-Fi 7 is a work in progress, as i read online.

OO wow, you are right. The noob that I am. I did not check for tri-band features on the new routers. I just saw some articles that xiaomi was the first one to release wifi 7 routers. If only I learned a little bit more before buying. That being said I wonder. The Router 7000, before the December 2023 update was not wifi7 able. Only after the update it was able to do a tri-band wifi. I have 4 xiaomi routers, all with so called wifi7. But in reality only one has true wifi7. Is it possible that the hardware is there but the wifi7 is just not enabled? Like it will need an upgrade? Why would they do this to their biggest router, that was initially not wifi7, but promote the new one's with wifi7 then to just be unabled to get it? Makes no sense...

As someone who has owned (2) Asus RT-AX88U, one has the main router and one as an AiMesh, this will be perfect to replace the main router to give me 2.5gbps for two desktop PC's I have and fully utilize my 2gbps fiber to the home connection. It's nice that I can leave my existing RT-AX88U in place and use it as an AiMesh.

Maybe one of you will enlighten me. I currently have VDSL2, but there is a chance that in a few months I will have fiber optics. That is why I am slowly looking around for a new router. Currently I have ASUS DSL-AC52U, which by current standards can be considered poor, but for VDSL2 nothing faster makes sense. I would like to buy another ASUS, because I like the ASUS-WRT system. What is the difference between a traditional router with external antennas that supports mesh and a dedicated mesh set? Is it only about built-in antennas and possibly the number of Ethernet/USB ports, or is there something else?

Hi Alex. That was a good review … thank you. I have a quick question please. I live out in a rural area, so have to depend on a 4g card in my current router. The specs for this Asus bad boy say it has a “3G / 4G LTE dongle” so does that mean I could slot a SIM card into this and get this to work? I am assuming it won’t work on 5g, which is a pain if not. Any recommendations for a router which will support 4g and 5g? Many thanks. Keep up the good work.

Sorry I might sound like an idiot here but as I understood the 2.4 GHz is for range and 5 GHz is for more throughput. By the same logic 6Ghz might give you a little more throughput but with reduced range.
I live in a double brick house and the 5 GHz is useless past one solid wall so I think it's over rated. I only use it to connect to stuff within the same room as the router and I have the AC88U. I was considering the AX88U but might look at this one. Has been rock solid as long as you keep it cool. Which is the important tip. Most routers give up the ghost due to heat.....
Essentially have a laptop cooler under it and it has never given me trouble.

This is a terrific router and it was easy to set up and get my web server working behind it as well as my network attached storage. For all the features that matter it really works well. Now there are a few bells and whistles on this router that don't work. One is the built-in speed test it seems to be unable to connect to the server and the other is the firmware update and firmware version check which are unable to connect to the server. However all the client devices have good internet connectivity which makes it baffling that the administrative features built into the router do not. Other than that once I set it up all the features that matter to me work very well.

This is a router, not an ONT which are different. PS, your ISP must support any 3rd party ONT you want and they need to configure it as well. UniFi has an ONT, and some people around the world succeeded to use it, some couldn't and some ISP refused to use it but the guys succeeded to hack things together.

I think a lot of routers are overkill, most will never use all the features. You want a fast secure connection but you will always be limited by the providers infrastructure.
