Well done on another great video. Its been a pleasure to see the rise in the channel and I look forward to another coach video next! Being disabled I don't get to go on many journeys anymore so seeing these trips really helps.
Wow. The Eurostar checkin area in Amsterdam (compared to London and Paris) is almost an afterthought. It’s like some pokey portacabin affair ‘down the end’ as if they didn’t want to sacrifice anything.
When they announced the services it was the only space they had available. In Rotterdam the main rebuilding of the station already happened before the services started.
@@life.with.sabine Thanks for mentioning these facts. It means that E* departing from the Netherlands will operate with many empty seats which affects profitability. The Amsterdam route is costly to operate with high infrastructure costs (as the former CEO admitted in 2022).
@xr6lad when the new station is ready it will be far bigger, and have a capacity of 600. But yeah the dutch government is not really invested in the quick connection to London (neither is Eurostar with a 30 plus minute stop in Brussels), although they are willing to spend a few billion euros to move the international trains are moved to the Amsterdam Zuid station (mainly due to space needed for these services). That said it is quite a big deal from the UK to expect every country to just make space in their main stations for the border checks, especially since space is quite tight in these stations. You could easily do them in London and just send everyone who fails back with another Eurostar, or have an online booking in procedure beforehand.
@@daanwolters3751 Just to clarify... it's the terminal which will be larger rather than the station building. As for sending travellers back you must consider that there are not many E* services to Amsterdam and so a night's accommodation would possibly be needed.
Just stopped by to say good video mate. Algorithm actually sent me here for what its worth, so I hope by commenting and watching until the end you might get more referrals!
Imo £300 does sound slightly expensive. Don’t disagree with your opinions however if I compare to a BC fare on a plane you would have more choice of drinks at that price.

Another good video. Pity that, after taking so long to get going, E* faces a setback in 2024 which *might* mean it cannot serve Amsterdam until 2025. The CEO has been in the Netherlands seeing officials and trying to find a solution. Hopefully something can be sorted out but it might mean that ex-Netherlands pax taking E* have to clear UK Border checks at Brussels Midi (as was the case before the Amsterdam terminal opened).
it is a a shame. Tough the problem is space mostly, the construction works for the new (temporary) terminal will take up space, and will have to use some of the space that is used now for the terminal. Prorail (responsible for the actual construction and rail infrastructure) does not want to keep the terminal open during construction due to safety. Meanwhile the construction will already decrease the amount of available platforms (and national trains able to stop at Amsterdam centraal) sacrificing another platform will limit the amount of other trains to the station too much, mainly due to that the four daily eurostars take up as much space as you need for 6 to 10 trains to stop in the station every hour. Still, I am disappointed that no other solution came up like dedicating another station for the checks, while ns provides a pendel train from Amsterdam to there.
@@daanwolters3751 That's because no other station in the Amsterdam area has the space or capacity to host Eurostar trains. There's no capacity for Eurostar to terminate at Amsterdam Zuid or Amsterdam Sloterdijk, no capacity at Schiphol Airport (where it currently doesn't stop, but it does run through there), and no capacity at Amsterdam Amstel either. For a short while, one of the options was to have the Eurostar run through Amsterdam Zuid and terminate at Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA, but with that option you run into the problem that there's no infrastructure to switch the train onto the correct track to head back west, and the Eurostar would have to run via Breukelen, Woerden and Gouda down to Rotterdam rather than using the HSL-Zuid between Schiphol and Rotterdam, adding a lot of travel time, which was considered unacceptable by both Eurostar, NS and ProRail. Finally ProRail offered to have the Eurostar terminate at Rotterdam in the meantime but Eurostar found that unacceptable as well.
What a fine train 👍💯

Indeed. And it's capacity limited. I believe it can handle only 240 passengers. The small terminal at Rotterdam handles 160 passengers max.
When they announced the services it was the only space they had available. In Rotterdam the main rebuilding of the station already happened before the services started.
