Hi Kevin. Great Video, thanks. I've been on your site watching your videos for some time now. I have a 2009 CVO Ultra Classic. Long story short, I over heated it a couple years ago on a road trip to LA. The result was the rear exhaust valve guide cracked which jammed the valve. Till then over heating wasn't even on my radar. I have since completed all the "cool down" mods that you have recommended in your various videos (tank lift, defl wings, permanent oil filter, remote filter relocation, high flow air cleaner, external breather and thunder torque inserts & Jims Force Flow fan). Also removed left thigh protector and installed a digital dipstick. Since these mods the running temps are usually in the low 200's and rarely reach 230f. So thank you for educating me on these important mods that were necessary in my case. Love all your great products. I'm a fan.
Man, sorry you had that problem a couple of years ago. Sounds like the same thing I went thru 15 years ago. Thank you for the feedback, it is great to hear you have the heat under control and are able to enjoy your ride without concerns of damaging your engine. KP
Thanks for this video Kevin! You answered the exact questions I had about certain Stage 1 upgrades all in one video. Merry Christmas to you, your family, and da crew!
Glad you like the video! Here is a video on Foundation that you may find interesting/useful - ua-cam.com/video/GK5x3lcQvJU/v-deo.html Thank you for your support and for commenting! MB
I did the tank lift in front of my 23 Freewheeler and noticed the wind buffeting ended up more in my chest than my head, which is great . Now I just need to slightly lift the back of the tank, to hopefully make the fuel gauge read better.
Glad that you are enjoying the benefits of having the Tank Lift installed. We do offer the rear Tank Lift as well. You can see it at this link - www.dkcustomproducts.com/deluxe-option-harley-davidson-touring-softail-models-more-dk-dlxo-sfto.htm We also have the Cooling Deflector Wings that you may also find useful for reducing buffeting and engine temps. @ …yes, I also got the deflector wings from you and they work great also. A question for you, do you send out “window stickers” when people make purchases? I’ve got some from, Custom Dynamics and also Hogworkz. Thnx
We can send you some stickers. Please email our Customer Service and let then know you would like some stickers. Support@DKCustomProducts.com Thank you for your business! 👍MB
Yes Kevin you can once the turbulence begins to rotate between the rear cylinder, I drill holes on both sides maybe your concept may work better leaving one side with No holes in it. But I the idea from one of your videos talking about only using one side. But again you do feel air escaping out of the holes wish you could test this theory
There are mediocre Stage I's (typical) and there are great Stage I's, as described in this video. Here is another video on how to get a Great Stage I (since it is the foundation for a Stage II) below. A Stage II is a Stage I with the addition of a cam. The cam makes it a "Stage II", and a Stage II requires a tuner or a dyno tune. ua-cam.com/video/GK5x3lcQvJU/v-deo.html Always feel free to email or call with any questions: Support@DKCustomProducts.com 662-252-8828 KP
I’ve done the DK Custom products high flow air filter with the head breather bolts and catch can. I also did the tank lift (1.5”). I have the oil filter relocation kit (with oil cooler) to install when I get my garage back (storing basement remodeling items all around the trike). I had the PV4 tune done and my trike runs cooler and better (true duels, high flow exhaust and air cleaner). You should market a rear trunk protector for the trike!
Awesome! I hope you are enjoying the benefits of having the parts installed. I know you will enjoy those easier oil changes. Thank you for your business and for commenting! 😎MB
That is an interesting idea. Have you noticed the engine temp being any less as a result? Do you do it on both sides? Can you feel the heat coming thru the holes on the right hand side? Inquiring minds want to know. KP
We have not tested either of those two configurations. We have tested both of those mufflers, with the TTI's installed. The Kromewerks were slightly better, but not enough for most to feel the difference. Our experience with headers is that the OEM headers perform 95% to 99% as good as most aftermarket headers. A few more notes on headers: Most of the aftermarket header manufacturers and putting cats in them now, and most of them are much more restrictive than the OEM....so, if it is an aftermarket header that has a cat in it, almost assuredly there will be a Drop in power. A good 2 into 1 header (with no cats in the equation) will out perform the factory 2-1-2 header by a little...but, generally enough that most people will be able to feel a small increase in power. Conversely, aftermarket True Dual headers (no cats involved) will Underproduce the OEM 2-1-2 headers, and most will be able to feel a small drop in power. The best bang for the buck, AND, possibly an exhaust note that you will really like, is to gut the baffles from the stock mufflers and put in some TTI's. Would love to add cam and differamt style headers. Any idea when California will loosen its stranglehold on riders on 2022 and younger HD riders. We can't do much (mufflers and breather only) without voiding the warranty
It is a bummer that we can't do more in those states, hopefully it will change sometime in the future, but when or even if it will change is unknown. Thank you for commenting! MB
I had to take off the right side air deflector, because my back rest adjustment lever is mounted in it. I also did the tank lift and put on a high flow air cleaner. My engine was running about 280 F. It's now running about 230 F.
Glad to hear you were able to get your bike running cooler and are enjoying the benefits of having the parts installed! Thank you for your business and for commenting!👍😎 MB
@@DKCustomProducts I have a 2018 Tri-Glide with the 107 engine. I was on a road trip riding Route 66 from California to Chicago earlier this year, when I had to stop in Amarillo, Tx. My water temp light had come on. I went to Tripp's HD and found out that the water pump had gone out. I was back on the road 4 hours later.
I can't say for certain exactly how many miles Kevin had before adding the cooling components, but it wasn't many. We like to add the cooling components as soon as possible. Thank you for commenting! MB
Hey Kevin trikes are for old men😂😂😂just kidding. Hopefully I can continue with the two wheeler being 67 young before I decide on that trike or just add a trike and let wife ride it

Interesting, going to give it some thought, and probably end up testing it to see how it works. Thanks!

Is the stage 1 with your upgraded cam still a stage 1? Does the cam upgrade necessitate a tuner or dyno tune?

I drill holes in heat deflector and as outside air pass by holes it pulls the hot air trapped behind the rear cylinder from under the frame
That is an interesting idea. Have you noticed the engine temp being any less as a result?
