I'm a Park Ranger in Western MD. We have >2000 acres. Nearly all existing trails are old mining/logging roads. My immediate supervisor loves to take the excavator on the trails and destroy everything, making a mess of the environmet, he destroyed a wetland for no reason, pushes healthy trees down, and many other irresponsible things that are visually and physically repulsive. The main problem is we lack a macro-plan. I alone go every other week to armor trails, keep water off the trails, clear debris, etc. Pardon the rant but I enjoy trail work, even if it's with a stranger on UA-cam.
I once worked for Parks & Rec and none of my fellow employees cared about the trails or anything. They just wanted their paycheck and to do so with as little work as possible. I got tired of sitting around so I would go walk a trail with a saw and look for fallen trees to clear. Those were my favorite days. Glad to meet another kindred spirit on here. Keep doing what you're doing, people appreciate it even if they never get to tell you.
@@A.T.TrailWorks It's very interesting to hear that you experienced the same type of work environment. I have written my situation off as an anomaly, but unfortunately the lack of ambition and pride in one's work is much more common than I originally imagined. Thanks for the response, take care.
I appreciate your work. These woods will far out live us and what we do today can positively effect the future. I wish every rider had the same respect for the wilderness as you do. Keep on keeping on, my friend.
Another informative video Adam. 👍🏻
Thanks man! Hopefully others can learn a thing or two as well.
