On the 2nd day of the new year, we woke up early and drove down to Pittsburgh, Pa for a day of railfanning. Our plan for the day would be to chase the Allegheny Railroad's AVR-3 turn in the morning, then head up the NS Conway Yard on the busy NS Fort Wayne Line. AVR-3 runs about 30 miles to Washington, Pa and back working industries along the way. The day began with AVR-6 crossing the Monongahela River to work a steel facility. About an hour later, AVR-3 was ready to go. It would have 3 units in the lead in Carload Express's corporate pant scheme: 2 SD60Ms numbers 6006 & 6005, and a GP59 number 4551. We chased the train down to eighty four before the train headed back to Pittsburgh. We then headed over to Conway, Pa, stopping at Wheeling & Lake Erie's Rook yard where we found a power set fired up, but it never moved. We got to Conway just after 2pm where we caught 10 trains in the 2.5 hours we waited there.

Great video! What time/days does AVR-3 typically run up "The Pike?" I live near the Whitehall Tunnel and would love to spot it, but haven't had much luck.
Thanks, they usually depart Glenwood around 9a heading south so I’d guess 9:30-10:00 to show up at Whitehall
