Finally the "reviewer" understands that this version was meant to be lighthearted. She doesn't appreciate different in terpretations as being valid. Owen and Sim were the best scrooges. A light and a serious version for all audiences. BTW MGM often tampered with their films for personal reasons. LB Mayer destroyed John Gilbert and Erich von Stroheim and Mayer and Thalberg destroyed Buster Keaton.
I like your comments. I would add the awesome likability of Fred in this version and well as that Bob and his wife are actually married in real life, and lastly that Lockhart played the judge in the first version of Miracle on 34th street 9 years later.
This is the one I remember most as a kid from Chicago this would be on WGN's Family Classic I thought it was the best till I found the '51 version in the late 70's with Alistar Sim
Hoorah on selecting this 1938 version of Charles Dickens classic, there is no other Scrooge then Reginald Owen, he definitely captured the spirit of the Ol Geezer, and seeing Gene with June is a real treat..
@@ClassicswithCourtney The movie is so crisp and original, like your actually there, glad your father appreciated it, is truly a classic, have another one, The Enchanted Cottage from 1945,
I have always thought that this is the best Christmas Carol
I definitely enjoy it more than my first viewing! I watch it multiple times a year now! 💖💖

One more addition please Barry Mackay and Lynne Carver, par excellence.
