Pro Tip for the notification management: For all apps (or at least the apps you get the most notifications), go into the notification settings for that app in the iOS settings app and instead of having notification grouping set to automatic, try “by app” so that all the notifications for that app stay clumped together by an app by app basis instead of “automatically”

Being a former Windows Phone user, the occasional situation where app makers don't implement iOS features is like a little reminder that it doesn't matter how dominate you are they can still not see the value in implementing something special for one platform.

I've been following your content since 2014 when you were with Pocketnow. Every now and then, I revisit those videos, which always bring back a wave of nostalgia. I distinctly recall a moment in 2015 when one of your videos was uploaded during the early hours of the morning in my country, around 3-4 AM. The notification woke me up, and I couldn't resist commenting something along the lines of "Hey Michael! You woke me up!" You responded with something I can't quite recall, but what I do remember is the excitement I felt. I eagerly shared the interaction with my family and all my friends at school. If my memory serves me right, you used to sign off your responses with ^M indicating that it was indeed you replying. Those were the days, man! Something I'd love to see you and other reviewers cover in more detail is how well the max brightness of the screen holds up in high temperature conditions. Too often have I found devices, across all vendors, that boast perfectly readable brightness on the spec sheet and in direct light testing, yet once these devices are used in more real life conditions, where the sun heats them up for hours on end, those thousands of nits go into the low hundreds, even when the SOC isn't taxed.
Case in point, my Fold 3 was unreadable, nay, unusable in the September sun of southern Spain.

Phone did just fine (except for the camera bug I reported, which I don't believe was related to thermals since the phone didn't heat up).
Sometimes there are oversights in my testing, or test notes are cut for time, but that's not something I would omit. Generally speaking: if it's not mentioned, it didn't happen/wasn't relevant.

Switched to a 14PM last year and I can't see myself going back, especially now that iOS 17 has addressed so many pain points for me. Google just... I don't trust them to really care about or invest in their products. Every year Apple says "it's the best iPhone we've ever made" and everybody laughs, but most years google manages to take a significant step back in one direction or the other and it really just got too frustrating for me. If Google gives me a good trade in offer for the Pixel 7 then I may upgrade it to the Pixel 8 Pro (I had the Pixel 6 Pro but that thing got hot enough to burn out the wifi chip and render mobile data intermittent and was lucky Google still gave me a full trade in price for that making my Pixel 7 very very cheap).

As a professional user this phone has been a godsend. I’m a contractor so I drive from house to house all day constantly on gps, and then I have to communicate constantly with back-end employees, and the battery has been consistently lasting the entire work day. The extra brightness is perfect as most of my work is outside. The action button has served me immensely as well for just how customizable it is with Siri Shortcuts. I’ve configured it to send emails to specific people I communicate with regularly, open common tools I use on my phone, as well as I’ve programmed in a clock-in and out feature where when I get to our warehouse in the morning it automatically sets a variable as the current time, then at the end of the day I use the action button to clock out and it record everything automatically into a spreadsheet that compiles all my data into easy to digest graphs.

Regarding the phone making the just connected charging sound while being docked on a wireless charger for hours… It’s the optimized charging in effect. When the phone is on a wireless charger for awhile, it will periodically pause charging, either at 80% if it thinks the device wont be in use for awhile, or when it hits the 100% mark. Once it starts charging again, it’ll make that just connected charging sound again even though it had technically never been disconnected. Took me awhile to figure this out as well.

Accurate about the eSIM. I regularly switch between eSIM and regular sim on different carriers (Verizon and AT&T with iPhone 15 Pro Max / S23 Ultra and iPhone 13). It's never as easy on the iPhone, unless you're doing an eSIM in AT&T (because they tend to think they only need to support iPhones when it comes to eSIM).
Then, of course, AT&T will randomly lock a phone swap for "security purposes" if you sometimes don't reply to the transfer text verification quickly enough.
Sort of like how you've described the iOS Home screen and the autocorrect, I feel like Apple goes way too far in trying to coach the user into what they want. Making things this "easy" does not help people in the long run.
Just by watching your videos, I can tell that you get the absolute most out of your devices and I find myself going back to check out a feature I missed.

Using a pixel 7 pro, I feel the same way as you, I appreciate the ecosystem and the flawless features and things like airdrop. But at the end of the day I still don't think I'm ready to be able to customise my home screen, app drawer and lock screen, or give up my pixels voice recorder that makes an instant transcript of my lectures and meetings so I don't need to take notes or its at a glance which automatically sees I have a grocery delivery coming from Walmart at a specific time or to remind me its raining before I leave the house so I carry my umbrella. Do I have gripes, absolutely. The battery is mediocre at best, some apps just run better on iOS and even though it can take as good or better photos than the 15 pro max, it can't hold a candle in video especially indoors. Even though I'm not switching as my wear os and google pixel buds pro and phone ecosystem is going great. I hope that Google actually starts improving the hardware, battery and chip in tensor /pixels otherwise I'll be in line to buy my first iPhone since I switched from the iPhone 6 to a OnePlus 3t.

Just switched from p6p to 15 pro max. iOS does the “at a glance” things just as well as Android in my experience so far, at least if you give Siri access to your calendar and have it sync with Google Calendar. Sometimes it even does a better job automatically creating events for me. Sometimes worse. In both cases not big enough to be a notable improvement or hindrance.
I wouldn’t be surprised if voice transcription isn’t far off either. There’s live captioning which works as well as on Android, both for sounds from the device like when watching videos and from the microphone, and you can get voice transcriptions of audio messages you get in iMessage too.
Honestly the biggest thing I’m still struggling to adjust to is the keyboard and text editing.
Oh, and I definitely miss those frogs.

Up until the 13-series (when Apple introduced the 120hz display to the iPhone), I was the type to upgrade my phone every year. After the 13 Pro Max though…I haven’t felt compelled to upgrade at all. Can’t really say this 15-series is scratching that particular itch either.
It’s also not a “well, not upgrading saves you money, so that’s good!” situation either - for the plan I have, being on the Apple Upgrade Program isn’t markedly more expensive than just being on T-Mobile and paying a phone off monthly lol.

Ah finally someone talking about the bugs
I was an Iphone user for a decade and switched over to OnePlus+Pixel last 2 years
And honestly the reason was constant bugs ever since iOS 14 or so
iOS is just not as stable as it used to be coz now they are cramming in customization features which Apple is new to
While on Android side, an opposite effect is taking place since they've been doing the customization stuff for a while now and are hyper focused on a vertical integration past 2 iterations of it.
So happy to see some reviewer touch on this fact

It's the same thing every time. A refined classy experience that gives you exactly what you expect first time every time. Tbh not much of a fan of the ungodly amount customization that android provides and really isn't necessary. I do admit that diversity of features and innovation is important. ... Aaand just like every other apple fan, I love the ecosystem/walled garden. I have the phone, laptop, watch, and earbuds, and they all work seamlessly with one another. Reminders I set on my phone go off on my watch. I can switch my AirPods and music to any device I want without having to turn them off.

I love my iPhone. At least most of the things about it. But changing icons on my home screen SUCKS BIG TIME!!!! Does anyone here remember back when you could kind of design your screen and place your icons wherever you wanted via iTunes on your computer? They need to bring that back, at the very least! Every time I try to rearrange icons on my home screen, it is an unmitigated disaster! The icons seem to have a mind of their own and literally end up anywhere and everywhere except where I want them! This is frustrating to say the least! Thank you for continuing to point this out, Michael! And thanks as always for another fantastic Mr. Mobile video!!! Cheers to you and all your subscribers!

Hey Michael, just wanted to say another great review but photo sharing while using my pixel is even easier than airdrop as you may may not know. Once you tag someone's face in a photo, you can share that person's album with them and they automatically get every picture you've taken of them and every picture you'll take with them in the future. My family is still amazed that their photos just pop into their phones when I take it

How are you into cool and retro tech but not into mechanical watches? They're beautiful pieces of engineering.
And yes, my phone is a once in 4 year necessity. Just really need to it to be reliable and work in a fuss free manner when I need it to. I grew up in a PC and linux first environment, so using a simple iPhone for everyday use is something I enjoy the experience of tbh.

For me the difference between retro tech and mechanical watches is that retro tech is always very weird and often very much of it's time. So it's fun to see how we all used to live and revisit that experience. It's basically nostalgia.
Mechanical watches just don't do that for me. They're pretty, but don't do much beyond a few basic features. They just aren't exciting in any way. They've been the same for a very long time.
