This video has helped me tremendously! I’ve been working on earlier sizzlers fro the 70s and just soaking them over nite in lime away with body off and wheels! After a good soaking for at least 12 hours no scrubbing to do! Everything is clean nice and shiny and the motors work!
Awesome! Thanks for the tutorial. I wish I had known about this five years ago when I was trying to repair a couple of Stomper motors. I have some Re-issue Sizzlers and now I know what to do if they ever need internal restoration. Thanks again. I'm subscribing!
9 /11/ 23 ... I just got another white Camero in the mail today .Which make my 6th one.... Now have sticker number 4 ,6 ,8 ,Love the Camero Sizzlers.. Great running cars on Fat Track !
@@dmelzinga I have over 1,000 cars. But -Beginning to start thinning out the collection. I'm not old but getting up there in age. Me and few of my Hot Wheel Sizzler buddies we re still racing these babies like when they first hit the market in 1970 .. Can't get enough of them..!!
@nga.. Must admitted I became obsessed with collecting everything Sizzler! ,Every car of every color from every country .....All the prototypes up to the ones signed by George Salukis the designer of Sizzlers.. Every Sizzler race set ever made ... I even have Sizzler skate boards. Trading cards...An original art work by the engineers ..You name it.. Managed to find a new rechargeable battery that works the motor but it runs really slow. Found a Sizzlers knock off from 20 years ago and might remove bits from it to get old car working.
@@dmelzinga Hi Dennis, plonked the chassis in the vinegar for a couple of hours and it worked! Have a battery I just bought that seems a good equivalent to original so fingers crossed!
As much as I like to see you guys clean these cars up and getting them running again...Dont ruin the perfect good chrome wheels that came with the cars.....Remove front and back wheels before dipping them into cleaning solutions. ..You ll be glad you did.!!.Those are Mattel original chrome!! ,,,And re-chroming is just remake.!! Ughhhhhhhh!
I do have a question though I’m finding a strip of paper on the inside of the body along the door panel, what is that for ? To me it looks like some sort of sand paper!
It used to be a foam strip. I think it was used to help keep the battery in place. I always remove that in case it has any battery acid in it. It normally peels off the body pretty easily.
I ve cleaned and restored hundreds and hundreds of Szzlers. .Only a very few failed ..Usually due to the contacts in the motors...btw...Use a dermel drill to clean the contacts up which works perfect Scrubbing the small contact with wire brush can easily break them off ..
My sizzlers have one Contact point connected to the middle of the chassis unlike this video where the battery just comes off without any tabs. How do I disconnect the battery without destroying the contact points between battery and motor?
This is a very informative video, but my battery tabs are different from what you've shown in this video. One side is connected to the middle of the chassis the area between battery and motor. It seems like it's really part of the entire area. How do I remove it? It is a short battery, like the one in the video not a long battery.
Yes, the end cap can be put in upside-down and make the motor run backwards. The chassis with wheels didn't have any chrome, the solution will remove chrome off the tires so don't put in the good tires.
@@dmelzinga And no damage to the motor in the solution? That's reassuring, thanks. Have any vids on contact replacement, I think I have a broken one. Thanks again.
The process for the Target sizzlers is similar but the chassis are glued shut in multiple locations depending on what car it is and takes a lot of extra effort to separate the body from the chassis. The motors are different also.
@@dmelzinga Thats the stupid part of the REMAKE Sizzlers..Mattel should have made the motors the exact same as the 197O Sizzlers ..... And YES ..They 're super hard to get open...I found a way of getting them open without cracking and breakingte casis.. Be careful though
Hello it’s me again Kevin leach ! I just got 2 of my 69 spoiled sports running! Cleaned them up and my new batteries came in the mail today! Out of the 2 one just runs like a rapped ape but the other one is not as strong! I’m thinking the motor is weak and is there a place I can get motors that are tested and ready to go besides eBay? All there motors that are on eBay are non tested from what I’ve seen! And also should I be running these older sizzlers that are originals ? I’m kinda of thinking not because I know when running there worth more than not running! The only thing not original on these cars are the battery!
I have had about the same results. There were a few sellers selling cases of new old stock motors. I just checked and couldn't find any more. Some of the modern Jonny Lightning motors will fit if you want something that will work but the originals were always better/faster motors to begin with.
@@dmelzinga ty it’s like this I’ve got prewar Lionel trains that are originals but I find the more u run them after they have been setting they only get better! So I’m thinking the same on these cars!

Too much soaking in CLR THE CONTACTS TURNS DARK.....To get the contacts shiny , soak them a bit in some Tarn-X.. Then rinse it all off..

You can scrape the metal battery contacts with the knife gently to help clean the metal up...Gently do it..!!
use a sharp Exacto knife

Update. I’ve managed to get 10 vintage cars restored! Original cars from 1970 that I sourced new batteries and motors!
Ps get Mabuchi motors. Much better using a brand new motor rather than clean up these old ones
@davidgrahamscott yes, there used to be cases of them for sale. They are tough to find now. If you can find them, that is the better option.
And the batery? 🤔
Did you get an answer regarding the battery?
Thank you for sharing... I need some new rubber tires... Any idea what size or how I could substitute some kind of rubber band or rubber tube????
I don't know of any real substitute, you can usually find cars in really bad shape for sale with good rubber on them for a reasonable price.
@@dmelzinga Ok.. That's a good idea...If I can figure out a substitute I'll let ya know... Thanks for a quick response...👍

Quick question...will white vinegar remove the verdigris on the copper?
Yes it should. It will be less aggressive and a little more work.

As long as you reconnect the aurbour to the motor housing that is normally welded on and the contacts are clean, it should.
