Idk, I'm from the Houston area. I'm trying to think of what rivers empty near surfside/quintana? The trinity empties into Trinity Bay, the San Jacinto empties into upper galveston bay, Houston ship channel also upper galveston bay. The Colorado River empties into matagorda bay further south.
Only the Brazos is anywhere near this area. It's not used for much and is far more pristine than the Trinity (runs through dallas and Houston), San Jac (major industrial river), Houston Ship channel or the Colorado (runs through Austin and much of Tx).
People will say and believe anything, especially if it's a lie.
Truth is, poor oxygenation or red tide routinely cause massive fish kills along the gulf coast, especially during periods of drought and high heat. Usually mostly schools of small baitfish. Larger fish survive these epusodes. Severe cold fronts will cause the same.

    • @whatabouttheearth

It's anoxia due to massive algae bloom caused by spikes in temperatures due to anthropogenic climate change. There are fish die off all around the country due to anoxia from algae bloom.
Look up the fish die offs in Taney County Missouri, Algae blooms in Pennsylvania, fish die offs in Florida

@@rehsa-zc6zq San Bernard and Brazos rivers dump into the Gulf at that exact spot. I've been fishing them for 10yrs or so, and would definitely not call the Brazos pristine. I wouldn't trust anyone on anything especially government backed companies. To answer the question of what the exact cause was would be as simple as dissecting a few dead fish. Alas no lab work and a red tide(business as usual) response.

Journalism at its worse! "Lets not find out EXATLY what caused this, lets just call it "a spike in temperature" Never mind the discharge of agricultural waist being dropped in all kind of water ways (rivers) and eventually reaching the ocean...My gosh, it's times like this that i wish i was some big shot billionaire who actually cares about the planet to pay for some independent investigation on this kind of "normal events" 🙈🙉

I have seen that a couple of times usually it's red tide that does that I've seen it once before when I was living in Surfside it's pretty common
