@@lowkeyhuman1893 Yeah because the alternative is waiting in real time which takes longer... the nap function is effectively a time lapse so shorter in game time.
As someone who just finished the game and was thinking about the simplest way to do the beginner's luck achievement i naively thought to myself "oh hey, maybe i can get a high level idea for some of the simplest navigation paths from a speedrun". using the scout to help maneuver is really interesting. i had no idea that it simulated the opposite force for the probe. i’m not surprised at all, i just didn’t know.
Haven't had a chance to do a run in a few years but coming back after a while and it never ceases to amaze me how well you can chain together all of these mechanics. Not only was there a faster skip found to get past the cliff to the geiser, then the ship then to Hornfels, and getting back up to the ship by delaying the statue trigger, and bypassing the double death method altogether. BUT there was also using the scout to pre open the black holes, and even (confirming my previous suspicious from a few years ago) using the scout boost to get to the Big Bang a lot quicker. This madlad also just full powered past the anglers. Your timing is impeccable. Incredible, absolutely incredible. Last time I checked the WR was 8:53 or something around there, now it's sub 7:15. @@ValoriYTI don't think it's doable right now. There's a Unity TAS program called UniTAS which can't run most games. Outside of that, it would require emulating an operating system or console to TAS it. I bet it would be insanely memory-intensive given all the physics sim stuff.

Hi, this might be a noob question but how does your geyser jump work pertaining to the 31sec geyser rule? It seems a bit unclear to me and I can't seem to find answers elsewhere. With that out of the way, absolute beast of a run, gj! :D
Maybe it’s due to the game gaining in popularity with all these streamers speaking about it/ playing it (at least on the French-speaking side of the internet (if you’re interested, I recommend the wonderful 2h video from The Great Review, I believe there are English subtitles?))
That's a risky speedrunning strat which lets you barely escape the anglerfish and saves a lot of time. It's difficult to pull off, so in categories like 100% it's considered too risky, as it's an hour long speedrun, but since any% is only 7 minutes, speedrunners can afford to lose a few runs trying this strat.

I just watched the devs react to a speedrun from 4 years ago and I'd love for them to see this as well.
It's wild (no pun intended, honest) that completing a speedrun in this game literally requires you to take a nap.
why'd he take a nap though? to wait for the sand to clear from the ash twin tower?

It's strong, too. Between 1 and 2 extra m/s, by my experience.
@ what a cool game
The new start route is amazing, so so so much smoother than the last set up

the fact that most of the speedrun is spent in the eye of the universe 😂

Best of luck at GDQ!
You've been with the game for a while, I'd love a summoning salt style video on the any% history when/if the 7 minute barrier is broken
Then Summoning Salt would have to spoil the entirety of Outer Wilds, or at least almost everything related to the ending.

I just beat the game without finding Solanum or the elk creatures. It felt strange honestly, there's still more I don't know.
Have you beaten the game with them before? You need to get the DLC to meet the Strangers but you can meet Solanum pretty easily
