I know Matt Dery likely won’t address his comments about Jameson Williams or the backlash he’s received, so I’ll offer my perspective and see if he responds. Dery’s criticism of Williams’ touchdown celebration doesn’t align with the views of his teammates, the head coach, or the GM. Even people at Woodward Sports and on the Heavyweights show called out his comments, which they described as out of touch and racially insensitive-coming from a man who likely has never set foot in Detroit’s inner city or understood Williams’ background and upbringing. Dery seems to think he should dictate how a Black player expresses himself after scoring, but for the record, Williams was simply paying homage to Marshawn Lynch. Finally, I have to ask: did Matt Dery ever have an issue with Rob Gronkowski celebrating in his own way? The way a man speaks often reveals his true feelings.

It's called being himself and playing the game. I'm so tired of hearing old, out-of-touch opinions about how Black players should celebrate. Jameson Williams' celebration was paying homage to Marshawn Lynch and his 'Beast Mode' persona. Not a single teammate or coach criticized it. Let Jaymo be himself. If you have an issue with that for obvious reasons, maybe football isn't the sport for you-try NASCAR or golf.
It's also worth pointing out that no one seemed to take issue when Amon-Ra St. Brown celebrated. Why is it that every move Jameson Williams makes is met with criticism? It makes me wonder if this scrutiny stems from bias against where he comes from or how he was raised. Let the man play his game and celebrate his way."

Woodward sports is calling you out Dery for what I’ve noticed for a LONG time. You have a good show sometimes, but tend to trash certain players(Jamo in particular) because of your personal opinion. Non- football related kinda stuff. Dan, Brad, and the city of Detroit back this guy. That’s all that matters. You left a permanent stain in regards to my opinion of you when you went on the bears podcast earlier this year trashing jamo. The cats out the bag and you’re tarnishing what otherwise would be a decent show. You can thank yourself for the backlash
