A very good summary and articulation of a region of theological thought. I am sympathetic with the theological current underlying radical orthodoxy,(ie. a sacramental ontology that overcomes the grace/nature divide leading to a more coherent ontology of revelation), but I am not yet convinced by what I perceive is its political expression which seems to be a baptized statism. However, I am very ignorant still of the overall movement particularly its political theology so I should hold off on an opinion. I really love this St.JohnsNottingham series. Keep it Up!!

What has society gotten by bracketing of Christianity and turning to Secularism? We have a society that is increasingly worshiping ourselves to our detriment. We are becoming our own idols. I wonder when all our technological progress will come crumbling down like the Tower of Babel and destroy us. Let's pray for Lord's mercy. - BTW, I hate how StJohnsNottingham cuts off the videos, but gave this one a 'like' anyway. -
Yes, it's the devil's delusion that secularism is enlightened, when really its underpinnings are conflict and slavery. Just what the Bible teaches. Everyone does what is right in his own eyes. Thank God Jesus saves us from that rubbish.

I've just encountered the concept of radical orthodoxy, so take this suggestion with a pinch of salt, but I did find this in-depth bibliography on the subject. I know you posted this quite a while ago, but if you're still looking then I'd suggest "Introducing Radical Orthodoxy: Mapping a Post-Secular Theology" by James K. A. Smith. He offers an extensive bibliography in the book.

Timothy Tamas , Introducing Radical Orthodoxy by James K. A. Smith is the best one I’ve read, although it’s not an easy read. For background, his Who’s Afraid of Postmodernism is short and helpful, and it has a good closing chapter on RO.

Matthew Livermore This appears to me to be neo-Aristotelian, a revision of the Theory of Forms. Where does it get us? Not very far I think. Reconciliation yes, the absence of Good, fine. The problem is the tendentious circularity of this type of discourse. There appears to be no underlying Mythos, simply a bald and rather bland statement that this is how God wishes things to be. As such, I suggest it is a very long way from the apophatic tradition of Orthodoxy (or Vedantic Hinduism, come to that). In the 13C, the Realism v Nominalism dispute faded when moderate Realists such as Aquinas and moderate Nominalists such as Peter Abelard accepted they had more in common with each other than either had with more extreme members of their own parties. Radical resolutions were unnecessary and paradoxes could be left to stand. In the writings of Postmodernist philosophers, I suggest that for Scholastic 'Realism' we substitute Essentialism and for 'Nominalism' we substitute Social Constructionism. In my view, as before, both can be passed by, indeed should be. 'Radical Orthodoxy' posits a problem which it says should not exist, and attempts to reconcile the irreconcilable, tripping over linguistic faux paradoxes.
OK - i am so confused. Does this need a huge doctrine/discussion/papers/media/ - this means that Europe and the west generally is not civilised culturally OR it has really retrogressed! What is being discussed here as ingenious/ highly academic ground breaking/radical theology is BY THE WAY, how the rest of the world lives! This has really opened my eyes to the fact that in very many ways The West and Europe is still living perhaps in an era of emerging civilisation in comparison to long established world civilsations that it often demeans! Such a topic would not feature in any primary schools or nursery classes where some of us come from. To imagine that this is what is cutting edge in Europe's and England's top universities saddens me deeply!

I don't think the term "radical orthodoxy" is all that oxymoronic. Radical comes from the Latin "radix," meaning root, and orthodox from the Latin for "right opinion." Usually, when a "right opinion" is desired, it is sought by getting "back to the roots." Then the argument becomes one over what the roots are or are not.
Naturalism is not a pseudo-theology; it's a metaphysical position.
Theology is by definition a 'metaphysical position' .

So Radical Orthodoxy really is as fundamentally wrong as I feared. I have hardly seen any movement that is at the same time so sophisticated and so opposed to nearly everything that I deem true as a naturalistic atheist. Radical Orthodoxy seems like a fascinating if not somewhat creepy trend.
Yes, thankfully it has precious little presence or influence. I can easily imagine it turning nasty if it came anywhere near power.

It sounds like some theologians aren't happy with the decline in prestige and that theology has suffered. Theology is limited in subject matter because it doesn't have anything interesting to say about worthwhile topics.

What do you mean by the term "God," and why do you say there is "no God?" I assume that since you deny the reality of multiple "gods," you would also deny a single "god."

Better late than never I guess... You actually are expressing Christian doctrine! The Bible agrees that there are no gods but affirms their is only One God! For God Himself said, "I am the First and I am the Last; besides me there is no God," and again, Is there a God besides Me? I know not one."-Isaiah 44:6c, 8d
Also, I'm not sure if your statement is logical because that which is finitude is claiming the Non-Existence and Non-Possibility of That Which IS Infinite!
Furthermore Jesus said that, "God is Spirit," in John 4. God furthermore says, "can anyone hide himself in secret places, so I shall not see him? Do I not fill heave and earth says The Lord?"-Jeremiah 23:24.
God therefore is Omnipresent as Spirit so to deny the existence of God one would need to be in every place of spatiality at the same place and time to prove God in fact does not exist!
Lastly for Christian Theology God is Transcendent and Immanent. He is fully present operating within the world[Immanent] and yet so Holy and Other than everywhere He is that He is also without it(Transcendent)!
