Great comparison review! Half the price, yet half the issues of the Italeri kit. Problem for us is that Italeri won’t change as long as they’re making money. That Tamiya kit makes me want to take on a car project.
10:40 Last year at Barum Rally Zlín there was a Stratos at display in the service area. It was a replica I think. I took a lot of pictures in preparation on this kit and the rear wheel arches where in one piece with the whole rear piece.
Thanks Nigel. I built the 1976 Tamiya 1/12 Jagermeister Porsche 934 in the 1980s (I am the same vintage as you), and still have it - what a lovely kit. Tamiya reissued it around 10 years ago in the cobalt green Vaillant scheme, and had to produce the spray paint to suit. Of course I bought the kit - a bit more flash, but despite the age still a great kit. I stuffed up the decals and paint job somewhat though. The reissue of the Martini 935 is in the stash as well. Maybe it may be next in line after the (all 1/48) Filton Beau siblings, Apache and the newly bought Airfix Sea Fury... A friend of Mum's has a Datsun 240Z in the day - lovely car.
good choice of kit Nigel, I am currently building the Tamiya 1/12 240Z at the moment, no problems with it so far and it can be built without the wheel flairs
I was building Tamiya kits when this kit was first released, mainly military subjects and the 1/12 and 1/20 Formula One cars. Cars like the Fairlady Z and other Japanese street car kits didn't get much interest here in the States because even if the actual cars were sold here, the kits had right hand steering (not a problem for UK builders). Eventually, kits were produced that had both options, which was very smart from a marketing standpoint. It's a pity that your kit wasn't upgraded to include that, but understandable considering the working steering issues would involve much more work than merely providing a new dashboard. I am in total agreement that the lengthened nose is not an improvement over the stock body.
Now THAT is a good choice - a man after my own heart. Have this one and also a resin turbo engine upgrade. One of my grail items in the stash. Oh and if you ever get the opportunity to grab the Tamiya 1/12 Porsche Carrera GT kit then do it. Now that is an amazing kit.
Hi Nigel. I made this kit a few years ago. Considering it's age it's not a bad kit. However it's fatal flaw are those vinyl window frames. It's just impossible to get them to sit properly and look good. It spoils what is otherwise a pretty good kit. Shame really. Thanks, John
Hi Nigel. Recorded on my birthday, 10th, 63 years old lol. Still waiting for my prezzy from you. Guess it got lost in the post lol. Only joking. I looked this up on Amazon, and when I looked, they would only offer credit payments of 3 months at £39.43 a month. Not interest free either.
Those wheel arches on the Nissan are so awful and of their era Nige, spoil the lines of a beautiful car. Had to laugh at your reaction, it was exactly what I thought🤣 1972! Imagine what Tamiya could do with it today... So sad about the stratos it is my all time fave rally car.
From what i have seen online, the 1/24 scale kit from 2021 have the same detail as the big sister.
A true beauty.
