Elector PSP was the only thing that got rid of the mites. I kept vacuuming out the coop and putting down de. They came right back. One dose of Elector PSP on the chickens, soaked the inside of the coop and sprayed the outside of the coop. I even sprayed the ground and now they are gone. I have a lot of wild birds that literally fly into the coop, so I will keep treating until I find a way to keep the wild birds out. It was so distressing to see the mites on my chickens. I have a hen that seems to be pulling the feathers out of my roosters neck. She is the only one that does it. I increased the protein anyway. I have a decent run and let them free range in the yard everyday and all day on weekends. I think she has been doing it for quite some time. It started out as a small patch. I thought i had a mite problems but it must have been when she started doing it. She only does it to him, and he lets her do it. I think its a bad habit that she formed because she likes to be around him and groom him alot. Im gonna keep her separated for a week and hopefully she will cut it out. If i let her out and she goes right back to doing it im gonna trade her.
Chickens are interesting. I have never seen one hen over groom a rooster before. Separating them should help. You might want to give it a couple of weeks.

Ok Hi , I hope you respond quickly I have the same chicken at 5:38 and her bottom is balled just like that, now I've been told that she's egg bound and to soak her in warm water, can you please tell me what this is and why..thank you
I am not aware of an egg bound chicken losing feathers because of that condition. Usually the egg getting stuck happens fast and the chicken will be panting, has a fast respiratory rate, won't want to move ,and won't want to eat.

Right now our hens are on a 17% feed… same brand you pictured… we had a rooster that caused some damage to feathers on our hens, one more so than the others… we haven’t had him now for a few months but the one hen still hasn’t grown back her new feathers..
I am having an issues that I cannot find much info on. Maybe you can help. I volunteer at a rescue and they have tons of chickens to several pens. The chickens in two of the pens are ripping tail feather out and some of them have a bare rear on top not under like I see on this video. I’ve looked and looked and can’t find any info on this. Any help is helpful:
That is common and it happens because they are in smaller spaces and are bored. Chickens need something to do all the time. If they can't find it, they pick on each other. Pulling out tail feathers is the first thing they do when they get bored.
I have a hen that has somehow lost feathers along her neck, including the back and just under her beak now. No rooster, no obvious signs of lice or bullying. If anything, she does the bullying. What could be wrong?
I have 19 hens and 2 roosters, they are 11 months old as of today. It started with one hen and within a week half my chickens are losing feathers horribly, mostly on their backs. They have protein, space, nutrition etc... They have a large coop inside the barn and a very large run, both completely wrapped in hardware cloth and we really don't have predators. They seem very chirpy and happy. I don't see any bullying going on. I would think that at 11 months they would be to young to molt? I live in the South, would they molt in February? I really would appreciate any answers you could give me. Thank you for this video!
You're welcome. Some say that chickens molt in late summer/early fall. Mine molted in December this year (I am in Texas) (they have done it at other times previous years). That molt lasted until early Feb. Chickens will usually have their first molt at 16 to 18 months old. Make sure they have enough calcium or they will pull out each others feathers and eat them. Give them some crushed oyster shell.
@@CountryLivingExperience Thank you! I do give them oyster shells. I am in the process of adding dried egg shells in their food as well. They just seem so young to be molting.

My 1 hen had a bald spot at the back eventhough our rooster is not aggressive and we have a lot of hen. She always get a huge bald spot at the back before brooding. Maybe she’s the one pulling her feathers.
Thank you, my black sex link is getting picked on. I am getting an apron for her but just noticed her belly is bald. So I'm worried. Can I put Castor oil on it?
Ok so I got silkies. Only got 4 . So let them out yesterday and everything was fine couple hrs later I noticed one laying by itself. So I go with treats an he gets up. But he was not moving very well. So he was laying in middle by food and water was eating fine .so the next day he didnt want come out. So with some looking over his leg was broken. So we put him in a box an splint his leg. Today he won't move but he is breathing shallow. Doesn't seem too be sick or nothing but you think he could got In a fight an got internal injuries? I did notice one morning he was getting picked on but my wife says she hasn't seen them pick on him. Any thoughts?
Awesome video. I however disagree with the worms and larva. They take calcium away from the chickens eggs. We stopped giving them those items and their eggs got stronger than before.

I would've said mice and lites too. 😆
😆
I have a hen that has somehow lost feathers along her neck, including the back and just under her beak now. No rooster, no obvious signs of lice or bullying. If anything, she does the bullying. What could be wrong?
I mentioned canableisem in chickens, think I pressed incorrect button in reply.,can reply again
If my neighbor has a rooster less than 2 acres away could his noise echo and make my girls broody??
@@kellyh4052 They are too young to molt for sure.
I’m having issues with my two hens losing feathers on their bottom and I know it’s not their nutrition have been giving them extra protein hmm
Could be molting.
Omgossh one has been losing feathers since October lol thanks for all your information and your videos they are blessing to this first time chicken owner 🙏
My 1 hen had a bald spot at the back eventhough our rooster is not aggressive and we have a lot of hen. She always get a huge bald spot at the back before brooding. Maybe she’s the one pulling her feathers.
They roosters make bald spots on the backs of hens when mating.
Thank you, my black sex link is getting picked on. I am getting an apron for her but just noticed her belly is bald. So I'm worried. Can I put Castor oil on it?
She could be just preening on her belly/chest. If it is bloody, that is a different story. If there are wounds spray Vetericyn.
It could be anything but it sounds like she is extremely stressed because of the injury. It should subside but beyond that I am not sure.
What if they have alot of food and water
There are many other reasons. You need to explore them all.
I’ve heard cat food for high protein?
I wouldn't feed a chicken cat food since I do not know what is in it.
My Wynot molted and then her feathers just never came back right
That happens in rare occasions
I wanted to order, but your link isn't working.
I will check it in a little while. Thanks for the heads up
Which exact link are you referring to? There are 30 of them.
My hen lost all her trail feathers???
Hens bully each other and usually pull out tail feathers first.
🙏🙏🥰
I was worried for my chicken in till I saw this video. My chicken was just brooding for rotten eggs 🥚.
Glad we could help.
Him: Now i don’t want you to panic if your chickens lose feathers.
Me: Panicking
I'll tell you again...don't worry. Just assess and take care of the issue.
Awesome video. I however disagree with the worms and larva. They take calcium away from the chickens eggs. We stopped giving them those items and their eggs got stronger than before.
snapshot, found out my best hen was sick cause she lost her head feather, she fall ill Mareks kill her, there should be a reason to be alarm
Mareks is a bad disease.
I do not see any blinders on them - that should help pecking I thought
One of my buff brahma is missing pretty much all the feathers on it's foot isn't mites run isn't muddy and doesn't seen to hurt her when I touch the foot any help what it might be is this normal?
She could be preening that area or another chicken if pecking them out.
@@CountryLivingExperience thanks appreciate the response I'll look out for that didn't think of that another one might be pecking them out when they're on the roost because I don't see them pecking at each others feet when they're outside.also your videos are a big help being new to raising chickens.
You're welcome. Glad we could help.
