Thanks for your love and care to the Filipino people.
James Godek, YES general MacArthur loved the people of the Philippines as they are a brave people. The Japanese were mean during ww2! The Battan Death March was a awful thing, but MacArthur and the people of the Philippines risked their lives and did their best to survive. God bless Douglas MacArthur and the Filipino people they are all hero's!!!
Back in the Philippine-American War when he was a Lieutenant, McArthur was on cammand when the Americans are trying to capture the Philippines.
@@heroicsplendid her father not he
No one asking Pinoy.
Peck was great in every roll....
My late father-in-law was present in the Philippines when MacArthur made his triumphant return. He said they filmed him slogging through the waves THREE times.
Sorry. My uncle was an infantry company commander during the day at Leyte and said the so called repeated takes of Mac landing was complete and utter BS.
I was so amzed!all my life i keep dying because i keep asking to my parents who is GENERAL DOUGLAS MACARTHUR,but now i see the face of GENERAL DOUGLAS MACARTHUR i'm really very happy
I have not seen this movie yet but it looks amazing. The story of a larger then life man fighting two battles, one against The Japanese the other against official bureaucracy. You have Gregory Peck as MacArthur, an epic film score set in Second World War.
This looks like a winning combination in my book!.
Dan Evans
Yes, MacArthur fought 2 battles one was with Truman.
Truman screwed up he pulled our troops back to the 38th parallel and stabbed MacArthur in the back that is why America is still at Korea's borders to this day. Truman made a big mistake he would not allow MacArthur and US troops do their job. Truman was cowardly andJealous of MacArthur for many reasons and did not allow our troops or MacArthur to go past the Yalu river into China or defend the N. Korean border from China as Truman hated MacArthur for not cow towing him. Every nation tip toes around N. Korea because of China no one knows what China would do if America or any other nation acted aggressively towards N. Korea. Truman put America at a disadvantage by doing nothing and now US is in a perpetual stalemate in Korea stuck at 38th parallel. I would not consider this peace just an expensive stalemate, so Truman could have his revenge on MacArthur by firing him and doing nothing. We have nutty Rocket Man firing rockets and no one is doing anything about it. I know China will not help as they are secretly laughing about the situation and are probably the providers of the rockets Fat Boy is shooting?!
It is a great film but probably only scratches the surface. It plays like something you’d see on the History Channel, Peck is very good in the lead
We saw the USS St. Paul in Bremerton, Washington in 1976 - she was tied up next to the USS Canberra, and the USS Missouri were all in the mothball fleet. We could not board the USS Missouri for they closed it to film part of the movie with Gregory Peck - MacArthur. We boarded Missouri a few years later but, you could only view the surrender and bow area. The Missouri still had all her 40 mm AA guns under the igloos.
I believe this movie showed brilliantly MacArthur's strengths and flaws.
I Liked "MacArthur: More Than "Patton". Glad I Got This on DVD.
Great movie
Read the book, "American Ceasar" by William Manchester. Excellent biography. It's ou of print but worth hunting it down.
My brother has loaned it to me and it's a door-stopper of a tome, but well written and hard to put down.
I got it as a Christmas present 1978 or 79. Read so much that the binding is just about gone.
It's a wonder book, what an incredible life story. Truly the Caesar of the 20th Century.
I'd highly recommend Douglas MacArthur American Warrior by Arthur Herman. It's a great update and corrects a lot of Manchester's errors, though American Caesar was a great book.
My Italian played in MacArthur with Gregory Peck in 1977 3rd Italian. Camp penitenton California Oceanside California and 5th Marines 395
The movie MacArthur was a much better movie than overrated, overhyped Patton. Midway was another great World War II that was filmed in the 1970's was underrated.
Christopher S. O' Patton was very good but I wouldn’t call it overrated (though its running time could’ve been cut back a little) Midway on the other hand looked too much like a TV miniseries and used way too much stock WW2 film footage and some of the characters were badly written. Plus it was lumped in with all the other “disaster” films of the 70’s because it had that “Sensurround” gimmick
Because these too films made war more unpleasant, Patton made it more heroic. I've meet a WW2 servicemen or two and can say one thing about them, they were not heroic... only human.
it was more realistic but Patton was better as a cinematic experience
If there was a movie about an inexperienced general then it will be overrated
South Korea tried to retell Macarthur's story with Laurence Olivier...They failed miserably!
At least both movies were scored by Jerry Goldsmith.
Olivier was a complete and utter failure portraying Mac. The movie sucked because of him. Now Charlton Heston playing Mac ... That would have been epic!
Epic failure on Olivier's part.
Patton and MacArthur, similar generals who met their demise by their obsession to declare war on the USSR and communist China, respectively; in other words, Cold War dynamics were the end of them
Yup and the end to actually winning wars in the American experience
In a alternate deminsion he's president
mc arthur said give me 10 000 pilipinos i will conquer the world omg
Donald Trump's fav General apparently.
Try Hard thought it was black jack pershing
I thought it was General Foods
How did anyone stay awake through this. I love movies during this time period but this was a colossal snore.
I imagined a romantic movie with images and music with starrings Jane Wyman and Gregory Peck
Is he at the Philippines?
The film begins with him there as he tries to hold off the Japanese believing that the US will send additional troops
Why did not Gen. MacArthur run for President but the major Eisenhower? If he was not relieved may be we will not be problematic with North Korea for decades.
You choose to fight a war, be ready to finish it and complete your objectives whatever the cost. Otherwise, the war and the casualties inflicted are in vain
YEA!...Mc ARTHUR, THE GREATEST AMERICAN EVE!!
an overinflated ego who authorised the dropping of atomic bomb on civilians is your greatest countryman ever. i pity you
Clearly you don’t know that President Truman authorized the atomic bomb droppings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. A U.S. Army General can’t just order a nuclear strike.
with the aviator glasses and cap I was confused that gregory peck was robert deniro
11 months ago I seen that movie when I was at home to in my room
Excellent! With this Timeless classic War Movie, you will learn about two dear American Phrases, _"Boots on The Ground"_ and a _"Back Seat Driver"_ .
@@designertjp-utube I remember watching this on the Television and while I know it is pretty idealised since it has Gregory Peck in it, I absolutely love this guy (in terms of his military prowess). I am by the way a Principled Monarchist who wants The Philippines Edit: "under" Spanish Colonial Government.
Mac Korea great again
Yes Ideal Alpha Best this is You When in Russian Hemisphere Korean War.
the greatest soldier of the 20th century the only military genius of WW2
johny 56 I wouldn't say the only military genius. There's Guderian, Rommel, Patton, Nimitz, Montgomery, Eisenhower, Zhukov, etc. there were a lot of military geniuses in WWII, but MacArthur stands out a lot
Isaiah Betteridge Rommel is overrated as is Ike. George Marshall would have been greater in the European theater and much as like and respect Monty a Marshall as SACEUR and Alex would likely won by Christmas 1944. Monty to CINC med. Do not get me started on Bradley! At best a Corps CG in Italy.
Montgomery and Zhukov were military geniuses? You mean they were actually enemy agents?
@@lewleo999 please clarify. Thanks.
The only genius? Rommel, Guderian, Zhukov, and Patton; Ike and McArthur were more like administrative geniuses than tactical generals.
Montgomery was adequate at best and DeGaulle basically a politician after 1940.
LoL *coughs in Yalu*
