0:50. Shortly after you posted this the prices skyrocketed on pretty much all Aussie built cars. Especially the V8’s. Good luck getting a reliable, running, rego’d BA/BF XR8 for under 12k right now. The cheapest BA XR8 on carsales (australia wide) is 14,990$ with 209,000 k’s.

Mine is sitting at 15.7l/100km. All town driving lately so nothing past 70km/h. I have a feeling once speedway starts back up there's going to be a lot of guys and girls keen as mustard to blow some tyres, myself included.
me too! 🙋♂️haha very keen for the tracks to open up again.. i feel bad since my Average is higher then everyones.. or should i feel good about that lol
I just bought a 2008 BF II XR8 in silhouette with only 54,000km in the clock today.. I have previously owned an FG XR8 and BA XR8 and AUII XR8 ute I love them. The price has gone up though I paid $25k for it, but it is in brand new condition, full log book services and only did 3000KM since 2013... even BA XR8s are getting up to $19k on carsales. Oh and the BA XR8s were renowned for having valve guide issues due to cooling passages being to narrow - i sold my BA due to this issue, it was fixed in the mid 2005 models..
Plenty of that Bumble Bee action is not enough Rossman .... I noticed you still have the factory orange peal in the clear coat on the door , nice , plenty of microns left there for the buffer ! Mate the headlights look clear as a bell she's tidy .
thanks m8! yeh the paint is pretty good for its age but is starting to show a bit of fade on the roof and bonnet :( all up the its pretty good.. hope to keep her a long time
Mine was cheap to run, 2004 ba mk2 xr8 sedan. Until I spun a bearing. So I brought a GTP motor, headers, uprated clutch oh and a GT interior. So I’ve spent a small fortune😖 plan on keeping it forever though

I got a bf xr6 turbo ute, awesome car. parts absolutely every where. best car ive ever owned. I have done qaulity mods but the power its unleased is phenominal.. And it handles great too!
Couldn't agree more! they are soo good! i really wanted a XR6T but at the time i just couldn't find a good one.. so got the XR8.. im still looking to park a turbo model next to the ute soon :)
@@RossReviewsau yeah mine has low kms 108xxx but the body is rough need to repaint and fix a few things. Your is in perfect condition. Prob would be worth putting an sct x4 on it and tuning it on 98.
I owned a BA XR8 for 10 years. My experience was, good servicing was the most expensive part, followed by fuel. Ended up selling it because to keep the motor well serviced and mint was too much fir my bank account
Traded my (much loved) 2013 Ford Fiesta ST in October 2019 for a 2015 Series 1 VF SS Ute... 28000+ Kms ... Stock (although my Battle Mech tells me that the mufflers have been replaced for sound effect!) Absolutely loving it :D ... in fact I think the only way I'll ever trade out of it is if I find my "Holy Grail" low Km's Manual 2016 Series II VF SS-V Redline Ute. The first thing I noticed (besides the massive rumble!) is how fuel efficient it is ... My Fiesta ST 1.6L Turbo was averaging about 7.8 - 8.2 L/100Km ... This 6.0L is averaging between 13.5 and 14.5 L/100Km ... That's less than 2x as much for almost 4x the capacity!!! ... I'm beginning to mod - a Hard-Lid, stereo upgrade and tint all done ... I have a cargo barrier system, engine covers, intake and exhaust lined up for the next year :) ...
yup it's crazy how the modern V8 was made to actually be fuel efficient! big difference there from a Fiesta to a SS ute! damn right you would love it! can't beat a overpowered ute they are just so much fun to drive.. you will love it man lots of mods available for them
Hey Johnny mate, great to get your input about owning your ute or a similar model, easy to work on,reliable engines, plenty of parts around & pretty cheap, all round reliable great looking utes & sedans I reckon, you & the family keep staying safe ok mate.
Awesome vid as usual man yeh i had my xr8 for 11 years use to get same fuel economy as u and it never let me down apart from gearbox after putting it on the skid pad lol but definitely great car and would be awesome to go on a cruise one day when this virus is all done man 👊👍
I own one of these beasts and he is right in what he is saying re fuel consumption. I own a 2003 BA XR8 Boss and I love how after 17 years it will still spin the wheels 😎. I love the hump in the bonnet which says there’s so much engine under here we had to add a bulge to contain it. My fuel economy is pretty much the same. Mine will not be going on the market any time soon. Love my ride.
im not sure on what it is exactly i know it's got headers n running straight through to the small factory back muffler.. i will get under the ute soon and show every one exactly whats going on under there lol..
I've been keeping an eye out for these on the marketplace for the last 3 weeks. The ones priced under 10k literally sell the same day or next. If the ad is more than 5 hours old, you've missed out. It's ridiculous.
yup i got mine for just over 7k last year.. n i was looking for ages. as soon as the ad was up i went and got it the same day. gotta be quick is the key
Aye Ross, the reason your car is locking and then unlocking using the remote is likely because you need to door lock actuators- happened to my old car and fixed the issue. Good luck chief
With the virus around, there's no traffic on my way to and from work. So my 5.0 GS is sitting on 10.5 on average. That's combined with about 15ks of urban driving with about 5 sets of lights and the usual corners and stuff, combined with 16ks of highway driving. Before the virus i was getting 12.8 on average. With making a week before needing to top the car up from nearly empty. Now im getting to half a tank after a week, but that's without weekend driving (thanks covid) My old 5.4 3v would do the same run with an average like 14.5
yes will be good to see the cost run through after ive had it a while haha.. im sure this one will cost more as it needs a lot of love at the moment lol
Hey Ross do you get cold start up rattle also known as timing chain rattle when you start the xr8 up cold? I have a 05 xr8 too silver sedan manual with about the same kms as yours love it mate
no mine doesn't have any rattle to it.. i have just heard through facebook comments that the timing chains are a known problem.. very happy with mine n surprised how good it drives still even with near 200k on the clock
i could easily get much better.. tho i can't help myself at every light to run through the gears to hear that sound! yah i've seen one done before.. might consider doing it to mine one day
ive done a few ute reviews now :) SSV Redline ute, VE Maloo, VE SS ute, FPV GS ute, VF LSA Maloo ute, FG XR6Turbo ute, my BA XR8 ute haha i think that's it..
Spent more on parts, new gearbox, alternators, batteries, cooling and electrical problems, suspension blah, blah in the four years I've owned my XR8 BF MKII ute than it would cost to buy. Now the ECU won't let it start unless it's under a 1/4 on the temp guage (hoping just a faulty coolant temp sensor??) so yeah more gremlins.. but the actual engine itseIf - f'kin bulletproof.
yeh ive been thinking this way lately haha is it worth pumping a bunch of money into her?? still not sure to be honest but i am pretty confident in the old boss engine..
@@RossReviewsau Thanks for the reply Ross. I'm hoping with the Aussie V8's not being made here anymore that they'll become a collectors item and appreciate in value in the years to come. I'd like to hang on to mine - even just for the fun factor. Reckon it's worth it. I bought mine 2nd hand, with 120,000ks (pretty good) but you never know it's 'true' drive history with it's previous owners.. hope fitting this coolant temp today sorts this starting prob out.
@@shermantank6724 it still amazes me how cheap they are still.. im sure one day they will go up since they honestly can't get any cheaper than what they are lol.. sounds like you got a good one! low KMs im sitting at nearly 190km.. but she still seems to run really well
Both are great options really only comes down to preference/price.. Fords are a bit more roomy inside, you have a bit of space behind the seat.. Holdens are a bit easier to get more power and they don't run leaf springs in the back so should handle a little better.. (can't take as much cargo weight tho) both amazing.. sedans are similar again you can't lose really getting either.. as long as they look like they were looked after they should last ages..
Had the same issue in my Clubsport, its in the door sensor. It happens if water gets in, try jiggling the cable that runs into the door from the body, it worked for me.
@@RossReviewsau I have another 10 months to think about changing. Last year i got a quote from Westpac BT insurance that was much more than AAMI. Your insurance company seems like the best option.
If you can lock with key then it’s the remote new ones cheap as on eBay. Easy to program. V8 Ute 8k on carsales who cares what the fuel economy is ! Compared to a diesel pos ranger 50k. find a mechanic who likes working on fords! Regularly every 15kms do the fluids! My son has one same I love driving it even just moving it in driveway!
i've done that with ordering a new remote and programming i think it's in the actual door lock there is a problem.. ya n couldn't agree more for 8k you can't go wrong no matter the fuel price! haha
i used to own a ba xr6 turbo so i did my sister the front brakes are a problem with warping but there is cheap replacement rotors on ebay slotted dimpled. are yours still good ?
yes the XR6 & 6T models got the same smaller brakes.. the XR8 did get a factory upgrade on the front brakes.. (no idea why XR6T didnt get aswell) mine seem to be still good.. will be replacing my pads soon n having a closer look tho
if your ford falcon v8 has a BTR 4 speed the cost is new oil and filter every 2000ks and fresh undies after everytime time it drops out of gear pretty sure ross' intech would take my windsor because a BTR is never going to hold 500nm
My vx LS1 6 speed manual . Over 35 liters per 100 Ks that was on race track though always near red line. On highway I've got under 8 liters per 100 K better then my 6 cylinder au falcon. I guess because the ss revs so low Top gear it's under 1500 rpm with still enough enough tourge to climb 90% of hills at 100 kmph in top gear.
@@RossReviewsau Yea cheers mate. I like your ba too. Thinking of upgrading au. I think they're one of the best looking ss commodore's going my favourite is VT followed by vx. I know they're almost identical . I just preferred the vt tail lights haha. Ross Reviews I had my ba not locking but if put the heater on it would ( I’m a x electronic tech) so pulled the BCM out it was full of dry solder joints got a my tech at work to resolder complete board new one was 450 bucks that was 4years ago still working now!
With your doors you can buy a door lock actuator repair kit for a both doors of eBay for $17 there’s a little plastic cog within the actuator that snaps often One door actuator/worm screw is busted which consequently unlocks all the other doors when it is opened - Even if you've locked it... Do you hear a whirring sound? Like the door is trying to lock/open? If so, it will more than likely be the worm gear. If not, the small actuator motor may be dead/gone. Ford or a shop will charge you $200 odd becuase they have to replace the entire assembly, not just the gear... It's not that difficult to do, but is a bit akward the first time round... here’s a link with how to change it ua-cam.com/video/_Vic-_CPiCc/v-deo.html
Its your door actuators they get gummed up with dust my key fob was doing the exact same thing i just blew them out and put wd40 on them they've never failed since 👍
My 2014 VF SSV Ute costs me average $70 a week as a daily driver for fuel if I drive normally, like ya said the more the foot goes down the more the fuel goes down too haha but they're awesome as a daily car! Why own a nice car and not drive it? 😂 😂 I like your xr8 though it's nice!
hey man love your vids ross keep em coming bro i have a question the im looking at buying an fpv gs ute a manual one but i want to know what the fastest stock ford/fpv v8 ute is i think its the gs but im not to sure could you please help
Pretty much. GS came in either a 302 boss varient and later a 315 supercharged Miami. Most powerful super pursuit was a 315 Miami as well so not much different, though earlier pursuits had a 315 boss varient. Get a Miami though if you want to do a lot of tuning and such as its a better engine and easier to get power from since it already has the blower
Thank you man more one the way📸🤙 yes like corvin lago said.. basically they are the fastest ford V8 utes.. but yes get the Miami engine.. it’s seriously the toughest ford V8 I’ve been in yet.. same engine the XR8 Sprint has (sprint tuned up a bit) but you could easily mod it to sprint level.. and it’s supercharged so 😍🔥👌
@@RossReviewsau yeah man i like the 6's but i will deffently be getting a super charged v8 i was looking at the 2013 ones cause i thought they were the newest but turns out there are 2014 ones so i might get a 2014 and cause like it has bluetooth and reversing camera witch the 2013 doesnt and the 2014 is newer so i might just get a 2014
yes the dealers i get cars from have stopped until the restrictions go away.. and most fans who want to come on the channel have asked to wait till the corona virus goes away.. so been a struggle but ive got some reviews coming still :)
very hard question lol not for a while i think.. depends on where the channel goes and what kinda content people want to see.. i love this XR8 tho (i do want a turbo barra tho)
Lol. I have a Boss 260 BF & here in NZ BP Ultimate (98), which is all I ever run, is nearly $3 a litre. Do I care? Well yes.. Do I daily it? Obviously not.. Will I EVER sell it? Not a f*cking chance!
G’day Ross, great vids mate, just curious on your thoughts on the value of XR8’s today? Do you think covid has pushed the price up a little or are they still going for what you paid for yours? Cheers bud
in general the price has skyrocketed since covid! very very hard to get a ute like my old one for the money i paid! (7k) my old ute in today's market honestly would be close to 18k! but you can always find a bargain if you look hard enough they are still out there
I’ve got a 2006, BF XR8 Ute 6 speed manual. I’ve had it for 12 years and it has been excellent! I use it as my daily and spend probably around $60 to 70 a week. I love it! A few things starting to go on it, like the drivers side window sometimes won’t work. The tail shaft needs replacing. The brakes have a shudder now. I replaced the rotors and pads and that fixed it for a while, but the shudder has come back after a few months. Any ideas what that would be??? Other than that, is been excellent.
Every Ford I’ve owned XR6 to XR8 the rotors are the issue as they heat up and warp a bit too soft. I noticed it mainly on a downhill drive as the weight of the car shifted to the front more
I have an HSV GTS e3 stock standard engine with the catalytic converter removed.I don't worry about the running cost I have a Toyota Vitz I use for day to day stuff. I would love to buy a Boss XR8 ute to take my dog out for walks too.

Oh and the BA XR8s were renowned for having valve guide issues due to cooling passages being to narrow - i sold my BA due to this issue, it was fixed in the mid 2005 models..
nice buy man! love the XR8s especially the utes! miss the old girl.. wish i could have kept her..
@@RossReviewsau Thanks man, what exhaust system did you have on your ute? I want my XR8 to sound like yours 😍👍
So I’ve spent a small fortune😖 plan on keeping it forever though
far out hey if your gonna do it.. do it right! man i bet she looks mint n goes the part too! hold on to it
1:51 bloody hell a jump scare there haha run fellas!! Great video mate im sure this will help anyone looking at buying a XR. Come on 10k subs lets all do our part to keep them tyres out of landfill
haha! you should have seen me sweat when i drove out of there! lol ya i think this one will help the younger people make a decision on em.. i know im getting pumped to save the planet one tire shred at a time lol
@@jasoar1563 thanks she's def not perfect but she's pretty tidy for the age :)
2:12 that sounds noice 🤟
😎
I have a cargo barrier system, engine covers, intake and exhaust lined up for the next year :) ...
yup it's crazy how the modern V8 was made to actually be fuel efficient! big difference there from a Fiesta to a SS ute! damn right you would love it! can't beat a overpowered ute they are just so much fun to drive.. you will love it man lots of mods available for them
Hey Johnny mate, great to get your input about owning your ute or a similar model, easy to work on,reliable engines, plenty of parts around & pretty cheap, all round reliable great looking utes & sedans I reckon, you & the family keep staying safe ok mate.
thanks m8! i can't really fault my ute considering price, age, my experiences.. lot of ute for the money.
take care pete cheers for watching
I own a BA GT, and I drive it on a weekend, and I don't care how much it costs to run!
weekend warrior like most ;)
1:54 just a ba xr8 Ute having a chat with a vf sv6 police car
haha.. the cops were actually super cool gave my boy a free colouring book lol i was stressing they were gonna look at the ute!
Cool
Did you see the turbod 5.4 that made 403 or 430kw cheap if you can get one for 8k and 6k for kit!!! Makes me miss my old BA
yes i did! what a beast! the sound was amazing.. lets hope that might happen one day haah
Awesome vid as usual man yeh i had my xr8 for 11 years use to get same fuel economy as u and it never let me down apart from gearbox after putting it on the skid pad lol but definitely great car and would be awesome to go on a cruise one day when this virus is all done man 👊👍
thanks m8! yes they are pretty solid and a hell of a lot a fun.. 100% be down for a cruise once these restrictions are over!
Love my ride.
hold on to her m8! they are such good cars.. 15 years later n i still smile everytime i fire her up :)
What type of exhaust do you got on your XR8 mate
im not sure on what it is exactly i know it's got headers n running straight through to the small factory back muffler.. i will get under the ute soon and show every one exactly whats going on under there lol..
I've had mine a couple years. Saw yours and was kinda like looking at my own in ute form. Very nice 👌
Very cool! gotta love the sound these quad cam v8s make :)
@@RossReviewsau how many mks had yours done? Cheers
How times change. We're paying $2.20 a litre in Sydney at present.
:( ikr
Aye Ross, the reason your car is locking and then unlocking using the remote is likely because you need to door lock actuators- happened to my old car and fixed the issue. Good luck chief
thanks brotha.. yes i think your correct few people have told me this now.. will get it sorted one weekend hopefully :)
Now im getting to half a tank after a week, but that's without weekend driving (thanks covid)
My old 5.4 3v would do the same run with an average like 14.5
love the a good GS! ya 10.5 can't complain with that m8 doing well
@@RossReviewsau that's with grandma driving. But i tell people im just conserving tires
Can’t wait for the comparison between this bad boy and the new one. I’m heading the turbo gonna cost you more.
yes will be good to see the cost run through after ive had it a while haha.. im sure this one will cost more as it needs a lot of love at the moment lol
Your ride is sick! I waved at you in my white WRX hatchback last week :)
No way! was that you out on obrian rd?? lol

8,000? Wow. How times fkn change...
ikr :( wish i still had this ute too
Ey Ross, will we see your new intake plus the other things you were getting?
Corvin Iago not in this vid I’m still waiting for all the parts to come in the mail😅 hoping they will arrive before the 10k smoke run
Me too with the Timing chain rattle on start-up but otherwise the 260KW BOSS runs as good as the day it was built 👍🇦🇺👊
Damn 16, best i got was high 17s, but i do mostly city driving
I had to replace my fob, got an all in 1 flick key, bit pricey but worth it
i could easily get much better.. tho i can't help myself at every light to run through the gears to hear that sound! yah i've seen one done before.. might consider doing it to mine one day
@@RossReviewsau yeh man same, i just cant not give it some at the lights... at every light 😁

Glad I could help highly recommend them eh that ute was a huge amount of fun
Brembo upgrade for the beast please!!
yes this is something i will have to do fairly soon once i get it tuned..
Hahaha cops waiting for you to leave BP
i know haha! i was a bit stressing when i had to fire it up and drive out lol. (idled out of the parking lot)
And you also did a review on that HSV Ute whatever its called
ive done a few ute reviews now :) SSV Redline ute, VE Maloo, VE SS ute, FPV GS ute, VF LSA Maloo ute, FG XR6Turbo ute, my BA XR8 ute haha i think that's it..
@@shermantank6724 it still amazes me how cheap they are still.. im sure one day they will go up since they honestly can't get any cheaper than what they are lol.. sounds like you got a good one! low KMs im sitting at nearly 190km.. but she still seems to run really well
Great info mate. I need a daily V8. One of these or SS. Not sure what’s better, 😬
True program a new remote into the car super easy to program just buy on of eBay
i've tried that.. must be in the door its self
Close to buying my first v8 ever close now
Do it 🤝
Forgot another issue ..my door actuators broke so the car would not lock ...got some cheap second hand ones from the wreckers ...problem solved
Had the same issue in my Clubsport, its in the door sensor. It happens if water gets in, try jiggling the cable that runs into the door from the body, it worked for me.
do videos like this about the f6!
good idea!
@@RossReviewsau tbh the content you made with the xr8 ute is my favourite content. Favourite video has got to be the xr8 ute burnout! Lol

Your insurance is a lot cheaper than mine; my Ute's insured with AAMI
for $994 & in the last two years the premium has increased by nearly $200.
😱 time to make some calls brotha

If you can lock with key then it’s the remote new ones cheap as on eBay. Easy to program.

find a mechanic who likes working on fords! Regularly every 15kms do the fluids!

i've done that with ordering a new remote and programming i think it's in the actual door lock there is a problem.. ya n couldn't agree more for 8k you can't go wrong no matter the fuel price! haha

Your door looking problem in a faulty door lock mechanism
yes i thought it must of been in the door lock its self
This is better on fuel than my 2.6 ford courier

i used to own a ba xr6 turbo so i did my sister the front brakes are a problem with warping but there is cheap replacement rotors on ebay slotted dimpled. are yours still good ?

Just picked one up for 2.5k 140,000 needs new alternator tho on it's way out
2.5k! what a bargain man.. the good XR8 utes are going up in value big time
if your ford falcon v8 has a BTR 4 speed the cost is new oil and filter every 2000ks and fresh undies after everytime time it drops out of gear
pretty sure ross' intech would take my windsor because a BTR is never going to hold 500nm
HAHAHA yeh id only get a V8 in the manual

What sort of exhaust and headers do you have?
was a custom bashed out system haha i think.. never completely figured out what was done to her.. but man it was loud!
My vx LS1 6 speed manual . Over 35 liters per 100 Ks that was on race track though always near red line. On highway I've got under 8 liters per 100 K better then my 6 cylinder au falcon. I guess because the ss revs so low Top gear it's under 1500 rpm with still enough enough tourge to climb 90% of hills at 100 kmph in top gear.
love a good VX eh
@@RossReviewsau Yea cheers mate. I like your ba too. Thinking of upgrading au. I think they're one of the best looking ss commodore's going my favourite is VT followed by vx. I know they're almost identical . I just preferred the vt tail lights haha. I like fords also I'm not a ford or a Holden guy depends on the year's to me some year's I prefer fords some year's I preferred the Holden's. 2002 to 2005 I liked ford Holden about the same.
Cheers
Try a new keyfob remote man, if that doesnt work you might need a new bcm modual
ya i got a new keyfob.. same issue.. so will need a new modual i think
It's not that difficult to do, but is a bit akward the first time round... here’s a link with how to change it ua-cam.com/video/_Vic-_CPiCc/v-deo.html
thanks for the tip m8! will check this out :)

hey man love your vids ross keep em coming bro
i have a question the im looking at buying an fpv gs ute a manual one but i want to know what the fastest stock ford/fpv v8 ute is i think its the gs but im not to sure could you please help

(7k) my old ute in today's market honestly would be close to 18k! but you can always find a bargain if you look hard enough they are still out there
Do you ever drive the Ute barefoot?
all the time haha
Ross Reviews haha nice. Would love to see a pedal cam vid driving it sometime!
When are you upgrading to an FG? ;)
haha not sure on that one yet.. tho i would like to park a XR6T next to the XR8 some day
I’ve got a 2006, BF XR8 Ute 6 speed manual.
I noticed it mainly on a downhill drive as the weight of the car shifted to the front more
I get 760kms a tank in my car but it's not a V8 though
ahhhhhh but do you get the same smiles per L haha 760 is pretty damn good tho must say
