The lyrics are the most delicate description of love, harmony and peace captured in a short moment of time … It’s about just watching the women you love sleeping … just before she wakes up … being captured by her beauty and filled with love and gratefullness … I play this song to my wife every year when I wake her up on her birthday. You say you dont get the lyrics? … It is beautiful poetey ❤️😊
This is one of my favorite songs, it´s a song I want to wake up to. It´s so soft, mellow and dreamy. And even if it´s a cover, it´s just feels very Swedish, the lyrics are so beautiful A lot of Swedish music from the 50-70s are covers, translated (or completely different lyrics) hits from other countries, since Swedes didn´t speak as much English as we do today, that was how a lot of the music from abroad entered Sweden. They became really popular ans are considered classic. In a lot of cases Swedes doesn´t even know of the originals, and that these songs are covers. Examples: Lill-Babs "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini" (cover in Swedish, don´t let the title confuse you, of Brian Hyland song with the same name), "Leva Livet" (Leslie Gore´s It´s My Party) Siw Malmkvist "Flickor bak i bilen"(Avon's "Seven Little Girls Sitting in the Backseat), "Mamma är lik sin mamma" (Johnny Farnham´s "Sadie The Cleaning Lady") Lill Lindfors "En man i byrån" (Billy Meshel's "If You Can Put That in a Bottle" Cornelis Vreeswijk "Brev från kolonien" ( Allan Sherman "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh (A Letter from Camp)!", Balladen om herr Fredrik Åkare och den söta fröken Cecilia Lind ( Peter. Paul & Mary's "Monday Morning" Povel Ramel "Far, jag kan inte få upp min kokosnöt" (Danny Kaye (and others) "I’ve Got A Lovely Bunch Of Coconuts") Sven Ingvars "Leende guldbruna ögon" (Rosemary Clooney's "Beautiful Brown Eyes) Anita Lindblom "Sån’t är livet" (Roy Hamilton´s "You Can Have Her") Per Myrberg "Trettifyran" (Roosemary Clooney's "This Ole House"
Do "glimmande nymf" by Fred åkerström. Thats a CLASSIC! written by one of the biggest poets in swedish history, Carl Michael Bellman from the 18th century
Yes, "Glimmande nymf", the most beautiful of Bellman's songs! And also the most erotic ... - to me, it's even one of the two most erotic songs in Swedish (the other one, in a completely different register, being Ulf Lundell's "Jag vill ha dig").
Likt en sländas spröda vinge ögat skälver = Just like the delicate wing of a dragonfly, your eye is trembling Jag gillar verkligen dina videor -- Tack!
Fred was entirely self-taught musically - he barely knew how to read sheet music, and played and sang entirely by ear, something that drove his friend/rival Cornelis nuts (Cornelis had to work *hard* at his playing, Fred basically just picked up a guitar and started playing one day). My dad knew the guy, they lived and studied in the same town, and Fred even gave my dad his guitar. My dad, being an idiot, gave it away because Fred was just some guy at the time. Had he kept it he would probably eventually have been able to sell it for a lot of money.
This is one of my all time favorite songs. The way he sings it you can feel that moment in time. The singing of laying next to the person you love and it's a warm morning with sunshine coming through the window. And you are just then in the moment, she lays next to you quietly sleeping. That's how I interpret it.
Such a beautiful song! His daughter Cajsa Stina Åkerströms song 'Av längtan till dig' is also a very beautiful song, I love the lyrics. Link to a audio only video with good audio: ua-cam.com/video/uBBMZM8wKLQ/v-deo.html
Carl Michael Bellman's writing is Swedish literary and musical history at its peak that Fred Åkerström is the master interpreter of. Would love to see a reaction to one of those 1700's gems by Fred: Solen Glimmar Blank och Trind or Glimmande Nymf, both are on SVT Öppet Arkiv and the flute performance in the former is amazing!
Fred Åkerström and Cornelis vreeswijks went on a det Turner together, if unfortunately not only the music had in common they were both dependent on alcohol, so I can imagine that it was probably not easy to tune with them 2. But they were 2 very good musicians.
We have a tradition of Bellman-jokes (Bellman historier) in Sweden.
Love your reaction videos!! I would want you to listen to some classic swedish choir music :) Perhaps Kung Liljekonvalje with Orphei Drängar (male choir) or Ring Masters (male quartet)!
6:55 "Likt en sländas spröda vinge, ögat skälver." Slända is a family of insects with rather large, thin, see through wings. Most commonly referring to trollslända (dragonfly). So that verse is how he describes his partner's eye movement as he's watching her dream in the early morning: "Like the brittle wing of a dragonfly, the eye trembles".
Hi Jonathan. Really like to listen and look at you. You seem to be a sympathetic guy. Check out Tom Paxton's version "I give you ..." The text is close to the original. Funny enough, I bought Tom Paxton's LP released on Elektra a few years before Fred's came out.
"Likt en sländas spröda vinge, ögat skälver" would translate into "Like the fragile wings of an dragonfly, the eye trembles" dun know if it is "slända", "spröda" or "skälver" that you fail to understand :p Its not slang, just possibly older but proper Swedish.
It was a sad end, but you won't bring anything down by mentioning it. He's Fred Åkerström, nuff said! You might want to check out his mates... Just saying...

Incredible musician and human! Never to be forgotten!
This song is like being thrown into a moment in time, he really sings with emotion.

Fred is one of the greatest we ever had here in Sweden. He is just woundeful....just sad the alcoholic bit...

Original song is "I give you the Morning" by Tom Paxton (1969). Fred translated it and recorded it 1972. Source Wikipedia.
Actually, Tom Paxton gladly admitted Fred beat him to it, when hearing this version. And I agree.
Gangsta Stina 🤣
I would love to see you enjoy something of Bo Kaspers Orkester "Ett fullkomligt kaos", eller Patrik Isakssons "Hos dig är jag underbar".
I like that you know the stories behind the songs. Like it's a Tom Paxton song

@TheWinglessRaven Ingen fara 😁

You should listen to Trubbel with Monica Zetterlund. Best Swedish lyric ever.
I did! That video comes out tomorrow.

You really need to check out "Kenneth and the Knutters". That is good music you need to hear^^
My boyfriend is from America and moved here to live with me. He came from Long Island, NY. He is not so keen on swedish pop tho XD

thorstein bergman - helgdagskväll vid kolmilan
gunde johansson - torparvisan
He is singing to his daughter. Så poetisk text.
Actually, Fred wrote this to his daughter - Cajsa-Stina. So the song is all about her. 😊
It's a very beautiful piece.
Instämmer i allt.☝️
You should react to sol vind och vatten by ted gärdestad. Classic summersong in sweden
WOuld u like to react to Gunnar Wiklund and some of his songs? Quite classic old tunes, as

Well, Sweden's three greatest composers/troubadours. are Carl Michael Bellman, Cornelis Wreesvijk and Evert Taube.
”Just idag är jag stark” med Kenta 😜
Lyssna på Evert Taube och Sven- Bertil Toube
"maybe one of Bellman's songs made it big"
Sorry, that just tickled me a bit.
