This shows how high the standards and expectations are for LEGO. So much precision in everything that little mistakes like these are worth making a video about.
A nice touch about Lego's instructions is that, when you need to do something twice, they only show the "do this" arrows for one piece. The other piece is already done. So in the famous Battle of Endor example, you can see from the other side of the set that the 1x3 brick goes in the corner. It takes out the ambiguity and also makes you feel clever when you figure it out

4:48 This is a thing that happens everywhere. In graphic design we "trim" our prints, where the original photo or print is larger that it needs to be and you chop off the excess to fit it to the correct board or page without seeing any blank edges or lines around it. For example you can see this on business cards all the time, if a color meets the edge of the card perfectly then its likely that the color extended past that about 1/8th of an inch or so in the original design to allow for the trimming. If you size the color to fit exactly to your dimensions it may have a gap on 1-2 edges and that tends to look bad. In this case, the page was folded and didnt get trimmed(or printed on) properly and you can see whatever the original stock looked like

I completed the Apollo 11 a while back, but saw that something wasn't smoothed out. I tried to fix it, but instead ripped something out in the middle (the Apollo has some weeeird building techniques in the middle structure). Almost had to rebuild everything again for one of the stages...
Oooh that triggers a very fricking annoying memory being that: When building the The Final Flight of the Destiny's Bounty set i only had about i think at maximum 20-15 steps left to finish the build i noticed that there were two 1×4 pieces that i missed like 1/4th into the instructions so that's quite annoying to say the least.
Just checked the digital instructions for the Death Star and the mistake is there as well however it is actually the 598 numbering that is incorrect. The steps go like this: 497, 598, 499, 500, 501, 502, and 503. With 503 being the last step in the build. Interesting video...
The folded page with extra ink: With professional printing, there's basically no "borderless printing" as some inkjet printers have, since that would just make a mess on printing presses. Everything is printed on larger sheets and then cut down to finished size. There's more craziness involved with multi-page folding and what-not, but that's too much explanation for a comment.
When I worked at the lego store I got to spend the majority of a shift assembling the giant hogwarts for the display before its official release. The only issue was that the 2nd instruction book had a bunch of duplicate pages instead of the correct ones.
There's literally 1 set here which could be classified as breaking the rules, the infamous "1x3 onto 1x4" one. Everything else is either just printing/design mistakes or incorrect packaging.
I think the reason the movie tie in sets are more likely to have mistakes than others is because they'll have a hard release date because they'll need to launch along with the movie for maximum sales. Other sets it wouldn't be as much of an issue to push the launch date back to deal with any issues.

At 11:20 as well as the unreleased torso, there's also an arch on the tree in the background that doesn't look like its been pushed down all the way. It might just be a faulty computer graphic, and it's very nitpicky of me, but that's still the first thing that I noticed when looking at that pic. Anyway, great video!
I definitely remember having at least one improperly cut instruction booklet with the little fold and extra paper. Pretty easy mistake to happen. Happens all the time with magazines too
5:02 - working for a family printing company that lasted 50 years, I can tell you this is usually the result of the cutter not catching that particular copy correctly when it exits the press (provided they use an automated module at the end of it).
Yeah that's an illegal building technique, which puts unnecessary stress on the pieces, which can cause them to warp or even break. Things such as placing pins into bricks and plates/tiles between studs are also examples of illegal techniques, which have been used in official sets, rather frequently back in the 70's, and even in a few today.
Fun Fact: The Error at 4:38 happens sometimes when the Pages get foldet before cutting, so you use less Paper. You Use Special folding Machines for this and often you fold it vertical in half then horizontal and then again vertical so you get 16 pages with one large printed Paper. Sometimes during this the Corners of the Paper get foldet in like shown in the video and dont get cut when collected and stapled. And you always print over the edges so you dont get white corners if your background has color. :) throwing that out there for people who are curious!
10:37 I get those alllll the time, I get those so frequently that I thought it was just something lego did just because, I never considered it as an error.
10:40 the Technics AT-AT Walker from 2010-ish has this problem all thruought the set, I ran into so many of these missing block placement errors that by the time I got to the to the legs' mechanical linkages and they seized up due to something being misaligned (likely more missing blocks) I gave up and put the set away, ended up giving the set to my baby brother for his 6th birthday and he used the parts to build a very Borg-ish spaceship.
I remember Bionicle had an error with their instruction booklets for the Toa Nuva sets. Near the end of the booklet where a page shows all the masks in different colors, the white mask section is missing Kopaka's Akaku and instead shows two Gali's Kaukau in white.
I actually remember building the Falcon at 9:52 and missing those bricks. I was totally confused and had to go through several steps to find them. You just activated a childhood trauma from like twenty years ago, so thanks.
I had a Lego city set from 2008 that repeated the instructions twice. It was two instruction booklets bound together and shared a cover. It seems like a very bizarre error.
I also have LEGO Ninjago Fire Mech and it's correct that doesn't includes a sword holder at Kai mini figure. Thank you for showing us the LEGO sets that break the rules!
5:00 describes how offset printing actually works. Practically all print products you ever see are actually printed the same way. This is called "bleed". For more details, see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bleed_(printing)
Not sure if this was pointed out already: the LEGO kingdoms evil wizard promotion pic isn’t accurate. The wizard’s hat is just plane whereas in real life, it has a golden dragon on it.

I bought the lego chima lion temple and there was a missing peice and we had to pay to order another but then we found out that thousands of other people were also trying to order that peice because there lego set was missing it aswell
Naw this isnt the worst, the worst is a tile getting stuck in the bottom of a brick, like one of the original bricks. Once its in there, theres almost no way to get it back.
sometimes when i can’t really see where the piece is supposed to be sort of like the first image i look at the next page as it usually shows you where it’s placed
My Dad bought the Star Wars U-Wing set from the Rogue One wave of that year and the set left out a complete essential piece in the wing and we had to order a replacement piece, Lego did and OOF!

That is also part of LEGO business model. They always ship with extra pieces to help build your collection. Did you notice that they ship pieces that will be hidden in the final model with different colors for that reason too? And yes, the extra pieces are not included in the final count and the booklet.

I was building the Ferrari F40 set (the big one) and I messed up the hood section. Didn't notice it till the build was finished

For Bionicle's Brutaka set in 2006, the parts list lists there being 2 dark blue technic axle connectors, but there is actually 4 in the set itself.

The LEGO Architect’s Space Needle definitely broke standard building rules when it asks you to cut your pieces to be shorter.

Yes it does. Rigid hose, 20 studs long (×3). You cut them to 5.25 in / 133 mm (a bit over 16.5 studs).

The thing on the thumbnail isn’t messed up, it just means to break off one of the studs and stick it on there, durrr
sometimes when i can’t really see where the piece is supposed to be sort of like the first image i look at the next page as it usually shows you where it’s placed
My Dad bought the Star Wars U-Wing set from the Rogue One wave of that year and the set left out a complete essential piece in the wing and we had to order a replacement piece, Lego did and OOF!

That is also part of LEGO business model. They always ship with extra pieces to help build your collection. Did you notice that they ship pieces that will be hidden in the final model with different colors for that reason too? And yes, the extra pieces are not included in the final count and the booklet.
